Well if it has dual pulse mode it is a later model. After that it is just minor hardward Nothing you would notice.

+Enrique Jimenez Don't have any stainless right now to play with but your welds look black because you are not back purging with argon when you weld...

I'm just curious. How does the AHP compare to, say, Longevity and Everlast?
@KevincaronSculpture
8 жыл бұрын
+mandolinman2006 The AHP is a great starter machine.. Just the right setup for someone learning to tig. Easy to set up and use.. More for the light fabrication and hobbyist. The Everlast is a heavier design and more for moderate to heavy fabrication. I would place the Longevity machines in between the two. I like the Longevity machines but I don't care for their customer support.

I like Everlast customer service the best.. The tech support guy for AHP is very good but getting to AHP themselves takes a little time.

I'm looking at getting the 2018 version of unit, but I was curious. Has the customer support improved in 2 years? I really am leaning towards this machine compared to others in the price range. Thanks again! Hope to hear back from you.

Far as I know yes, the customer support is much improved. Of course I have not had a need for any support so that is telling also. I know them both personally, they are good people and stand by their products. No fear!

Kevin Caron, Artist Hey, thanks so much for the fast reply. It was unexpected after this video had been out for so long. I'm almost certain I'll be getting one of these when they come back in stock in December. I looked all around local welding shops, pawn shops, flee markets... But I just couldn't find anything that fit my needs for tig and stick that were also compatible with 110v. Tell them they should keep making great products. 😀 I might post a reply on here once I get it and use it for a while. Also love your content.

Kevin Caron, Artist If you're looking to sell it, I would definitely be interested. Is there a preferred way to contact you? I could add you on Google+ or Facebook. If not, I don't mind waiting till the 10th for the restock. Thanks again for the content!

Do the pulse settings you were talking about generally translate to other machines? I'm sure you would read the literature with whatever machine you're working with for it to be ideal, but are there some rules of thumb when pulse welding? And is it only for aluminum?

I'm a TIG noob, using this machine in the video. I like the topic of this video and am grateful for it, but it doesn't really help me out, or maybe I missed it... When should I use pulsing? How much should I use? Higher pulse rate for thinner metals? Are there any general 'rules of thumb' when it comes to pulsing?
@KevincaronSculpture
7 жыл бұрын
I use pulse for thin metals, say under 16 gauge, and I use it for the look on anything I don't want to grind smooth. Higher pulse rate for thinner metals and shorter pulse time as well. Most of the time it is just practice on a piece of scrap metal to see how it will work on what I am trying to build. I feel that the thinner the metal the higher the pulse rate, balanced against the higher amps you will need to still maintain correct penetration. Will try to put a video together about this. Please stay tuned...

What is the 2T and 4T switch for? I'm not familiar with that?
@KevincaronSculpture
6 жыл бұрын
"2T" means the finger switch is just on or off. "4T" gives you better control over the arc. Press and hold the finger switch down and you get an arc that stops at beginning amps. Let go of the switch and the arc goes to welding amps. Press and hold the switch again and the arc goes from welding amps to ending amps. Release the switch and the arc stops.

Kevin Caron, Artist, thanks. This machine, I just bought it, is the first one I've ever used with all these controls. The only welding I've ever done was on an old SA-200, and an old buzz box. I bought this Alpha TIG to teach myself how to TIG weld.

Which model of the Everlast line is comparable to the AHP AlphaTIG 200X?

I would say the PowerTig 210ext is the closest you are going to get to the AHP Alphatig.

how much better is the everlast if any?
@KevincaronSculpture
7 жыл бұрын
The Everlast is slightly better in my opinion.
@johnchafin3817
7 жыл бұрын
The really hard question is does slightly better justify twice the cost? The Everlast PowerTIG 210EXT is around $1,500 to $1,600 and the AHP AlphaTig 200X is about $800. It has to be a lot better to the AlphaTig has to be a lot worse to justify twice the cost, IMO. If just slightly better then I can save $800.
@KevincaronSculpture

You just have to remember that AHP is a hobbyist/light fabrication machine and Everlast is more of a production machine.

I don't use it. It 's too small for make I make. But it is a fine little machine. If I was not welding over 3/8th inch it would work very well.

Johnny D,, Yes, the pulse setting are pretty much the same from one machine to another.... I will use pulse for any metal I am welding... Copper, steel or aluminum. Normally I will run around 100 pulses per second .

Kevin Caron, Artist what is the benefits of pulse settings from slow rates vs fast rates? is the slow rate settings used for thin materials to avoid overheating? what does 200Hz do better than non pulsed mode? just wondering what guidelines you would use when selecting the modes and speeds.

Kevin great vids. I got this machine (AHP) last fall and have been practicing welding aluminum. I was able ,eventually, to do a butt joint on 1/4" aluminum using a 1/8 general purpose electrode. I recently began practicing the same with 1/8 aluminum with a 1/16 general purpose electrode but so far its a disaster. I keep loosing the arc though I have tried different amp settings. Am hoping you can suggest settings or any advice that might make my practice more productive. Thanks much.

Thought twice about posting this message, and decided to post it. I have a middle age AHP 200 DX welder (without the variable frequency AC) that is working fine and I like it. But they really need to learn how to respond to phone and emails. Phone and left message - no response. Then I emailed them about 12/16, then again about 12/25 or 28?, and still NO response. When I upgrade it probably will be to an Everlast unit - I appreciate support after the sale.

I had the worst attempted buying experience with Scott at AHP.....he basically kept me from being able to buy one. Between him and Rockwood I was unable to get one....shopping now for another brand. Everlast is in the running; I got a reply email about 5 minutes after I sent my inquiry today (on a Sunday in American Samoa)!
