At one time, The Seeing Eye, Inc., in Morristown, New Jersey in the United States, had an issue with hip dysplasia. But as Dr. Miller correctly stated, careful genetic research enabled the school which is where I have obtained all seven of my Seeing Eye dogs has been able to eliminate hip dysplasia. so careful research and breeding can definitely make a difference.

Hi Dr Scott, I don't have a question, but I'd love to see what you're up to these days, including animals you're treating up through their outcomes... I miss seeing you on Bondi Vet! I'd love for your videos to be longer and more in depth! Thank you for still making your presence known!

Omg... when i was a vet nurse, this was *such* a common question! So many breeds can have limb dysplasia because of inbreeding or intermingling with shepherd-type dogs... I'm *so* glad that this is available for ppl When you mentioned surgical options, you didn't mention a head ostectomy, which isn't ideal but relieving... when a fast inexpensive option is required

Hi Dr. Scott, I love seeing you in your new series. I had no idea that hip dysplasia could be genetic. You taught me something I didn't know. Thank you. Hello Scully 🐕❤️

Thankyou, the first vet I’ve seen on TV saying to ask breeders about hip screening (and elbow too ) the amount of episodes of the super vet I’ve watched and not once have I seen him say the importance of prevention with responsible breeders screening their dogs as just one of the measures they take to ensure many happy and healthy generations

Hi Dr Scott! Here in Germany we often use gold implants, set by an orthopedic specialist. We had a shep with 2 grade E hips and he was doing awesome without needing painkillers. It’s permanently. Also expensive but does the job 👌

Super and easy to understand information Dr. Scott 👍Really hope insurance and licensing for breeders will one day become mandatory to get better animal welfare regardless of owner's economic status, I get so incredibly sad when owners surrender their best friend or have to euthanize them because they don't have insurance or the money to give them the treatment they need and deserve when diagnosed with for example, hip displaysia or another diseases....

Thank you for this educationally informative video on hip dysplasia. As a dog person, and with a penchant for German Shepherds, I have been fortunate to rescue two beauties, and was asked two years ago to adopt an Australian Shepherd who had been bred three times and spayed just before we adopted her.She is now 4 old, very laid back, thinks she is a lap dog and unfortunately overweight, but I am working on this, and considering changing her to a raw diet, because I understand it's better for her? I realize that being overweight opens her to hip dysplasia, and want to avoid this condition and others. I love all your programmes, and appreciate you and your team, including your wife and sister -in-law. What happened to Emma? She came with you from Portugal, but I haven't seen her in a while now. Glad to see you as a rescue vet with a special interest in shelters.

I’ve had two wonderful GSD’s who ultimately had to be put down because of hip dysplasia. It was terrible to see them in pain. I won’t have another…it’s too painful for them and for me.

Hi Dr Scott Thank you so much for this vlog and am finding the information that you give out on here to be informative. Although I haven’t got a dog myself it’s knowing what the signs and symptoms are and then I would always suggest a vets opinion as these are the people who care for our animals . Much live and respect from South Wales x

I really would have loved for my husky to have had a litter of pups. But she was showing signs at 10 months old. So right away, I took her to get fixed. I love my baby so much that I can not put her through anything horrible. She is four and has issues sometimes. For the most part, she is a very inactive dog, which will be helpful in the long run. She gets some run time, and I want her to keep those hips strong when she needs them.

The first sign I noticed was the bunny hopping when she would take off to run. I went straight into research mode, and it broke my heart.

Hi, Dr. Scott! Love this new channel. Thanks for touching on this topic. I had a Newfoundland mix that suffered with this. We thought we were getting a German Shepherd mix. At full grown, we were told, he would weigh 40-50 pounds. HE WAS 40 POUNDS AT 4 MONTHS. Of course, he thought he was a lap puppy. He would not have survived Parvo had he been any smaller.

Really interesting video 😊. Can the bunny hopping you mentioned be caused by other issues / just something the dog does ? My dog has done this occasionally since he was a puppy and is now 17yrs old and still does it. Tends to be when he’s more excited and trying to run but doesn’t last long / happen often. Our vet’s have never found an issue with him and until he injured his cruciate a couple of years back and now has some arthritis he’s been fine

My dog does this as well. We’ve got a lot of wooden floors at home and sometimes he’s skidding everywhere - especially when he’s trying to run around and corner at speed 🙄🐶💓. Sometimes he’s fine - seems to be if he gets his weight distributed well between his paws. Also if he’s got longer fur between his pads that can affect him

Hey Dr. Scott, thank you very much. I have a 5 year old Belgian malinois male with really bad hip dysplasia, how can I know if he's in pain? when he gets up it's hard for him to lift his two legs, but I don't see signs of pain in him, it's just a bit hard for him sometimes, can I know if he is in pain? how? thanks!

Hi Scott. What’s the best way I can offer support to my 8 month old kitten with liver issues? She’s on gastrointestinal diet and “BeSame” which supports her liver function. Is there anything else I can do?

I'm not sure how much you know about poultry but I recently took in a rescue polish cockerel and have noticed that when he gets excited or energetic, he passes out briefly and wakes up a little ditzy. I used to have a serama hen with epilepsy and I don't think it's that as he doesn't have seizures but could this be narcolepsy? I sadly don't have a poultry vet near me anymore so any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I have an unrelated question. I have a 12 year old dog who has decided to pee 2 feet from her doggy door, inside the house. I have tried rewards but it doesn't seem to work. She never 💩 inside the house. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
