Like many, we were frustrated with slow internet speeds & mind-boggling connection problems within our home. After viewing your KZitem video regarding mesh Wi-Fi; we elected to purchase the Eero 3-pack mesh Wi-Fi system. Wow.., what an amazing difference this made. Setting up Eero was as you explained - simple. Their app is top-notch. And the best part - with about 6,000 sq ft of solid internet coverage there are now no blind spots within our home. Connection issues are a thing of the past; even the finicky wireless printers are now working properly! Thank you for your professional & enlightening presentation.

I've been using an Orbi for about 18 months now and really have no complaints. I'm able to to get dependable signal to my whole property except the very edge of the 3.7 acres. I only employ a single satellite and the base. I may add an outdoor satellite in the near future to allow streaming when mowing the back yard. Enjoy watching your videos.

We just upgraded our WiFi network to Eero last week. So far it’s been a big improvement! No device dropouts and we now have reliable service in the garage for Model 3 and Solar. I suspected for some time that we were getting interference from neighbors’ systems but never took the time to track it down. This seems to have fixed that. This video felt like validation! Thanks for another great effort!

New to your channel. Great, straight-forward analysis of Eero. I'm one of the guys you produced this for. I have one modem that HAD to be in the back of the house. Great for me and my office, but bad for everyone else. I ran RJ45 from the modem to two spots in the house to extend the network with Netgear Nighthawk routers. Never any problems with connected devices, but wifi is always a challenge. Hoping mesh wifi will finally bring me some peace.

Matt, as always, thanks for the fantastic video. And HUGE thanks for being the first person I have seen to confirm the existence of the issue at 8minutes into your video of NOT switching mesh points on iOS [and I Think MacOS] devices too. And it is NOT just Eero. I have a Synology MESH and many of my Mac clients on Synology RT2600ac and MR2100ac Mesh networks... I LOVE the Synology system it is AMAZING. But I noticed that issue in many, MANY cases... walk from room to room and have HORRIBLE Wifi right next to a mesh point. and solution was to disable and re-enable. So it's surely not just Eero and/or Synology but [I guess ALL] mesh systems and something that hopefully Apple will fix... It adds SOO much frustration and confusion. And it's hard to explain to clients. MESH is supposed to SOLVE the problem of worrying about what you are connected to and supposed to be seamless. So hopefully that is fixed soon. I also am hoping Synology Goes Wifi 6 and updates their very old Mesh hardware. Have you experimented with Synology Mesh system and do you have any thoughts? Also, what are your thoughts on WiFi 6e. It seems that just now WiFi 6 hardware is coming out, but, correct me if I am wrong, but I think WiFi 6e may be the much more important thing... What are your thoughts? Thanks again.... - Eric ZORK Alan [ Professional Poet & Bed Vlogger ]

Just saw this & want to add an often overlooked option. If your distant device is not mobile (does not NEED wifi but too far to run Ethernet cabling - Security cameras, desktop PC, etc) Powerline Adapters are an inexpensive & simple option using house wiring for data. Connect a "Master" to AC & the router via ethernet & "slave" to same AC mains (different circuits) & ethernet to remote device, push 2 buttons & you're connected - saves Wifi for devices that need it & very secure - & no wifi passwords either. Sold in pairs, I got 2 sets (1 master & 3 slave devices) for $80. Instructions say they don't work on Surge Suppressor outlet strips but I've seen comments that sometimes they do.

I suppose I say this every time, but I really like your presentation style. We utilize a mesh network as well using Luma equipment. It's been great. We live in east TN and our house is built on a hill, making half the lower level below grade. I struggled with WiFi signal until going to the mesh network which really solved out problems. It also had the benefit of having good signal out on our deck which is great for the summer mnths. Keep the videos coming. I decided to go with AmpliFi mesh due to its Apple-like setup and interface. The deciding factor for me is Amplifi’s hardware VPN; the Teleport. I personally needed a way to get inside my home network from anywhere in the world. The two things that bother me or concern me about Eero are the monthly subscription model and that they are owned by Amazon.
@UndecidedMF

Totally with you on the Amazon angle. The subscription model I kind of waffle on a bit, but it’s optional and what I’m getting out of it is offering me value ... so happy to do it (that may change down the line though). If I do move away from Eero at some point, AmpliFi is the one I’d probably move to.

Good suggestion for another video. For me it came down to user experience and the company itself. Eero’s setup, app, configuration, and Ethernet jacks on each node was exactly what I was looking for. I’m a big believer in using wired networking where you can, so I knew I wanted to use Ethernet as the backbone between the nodes. I’m not anti Google, but I wasn’t comfortable giving them access to even more data on the sites I visit and what I do in my home. Ironically, Eero is now owned by Amazon, but as of right now Eero’s policies haven’t changed. Ubiquiti’s home system wasn’t available at the time I was shopping or it would have been a contender.

We are building a home in the country and have purchased a Mofi 4500 with sim card. (no source of internet available except satellite) It is working well in our camper for now. We will put the Mofi upstairs and have installed ethernet wires to each possible TV site as well as to POE cameras. Additionally we ran one ethernet wire to the living room for an additional modem. What would you suggest for us to purchase? Is a mesh system our best bet? What could we connect to the Mofi upstairs for additional ports for ethernet TV wires? The POE cameras will go to a NVR. Sorry for the tech ignorance!

I live in a 100 year old house with 2 stories and a full, partially finished basement. The wall surfacing in much of the downstairs is expanded wire mesh and grout on top of the original plaster and lathe. Basically, metal walls. Getting a wi-fi signal from one room to another is somewhat akin to trying to push a paper straw through a rock. Currently, I am using two routers with separate conventional wi-fi networks, one upstairs and one downstairs along with an extender to cover a detached garage located about 20 feet from the house. I can see a drop in speed from 150 Mbps to 30 Mbps just by asking the signal to pass through one wall. Given the extreme circumstances, am I going to see any improvement at all by switching to a mesh network? As you can well imagine, connecting nodes via ethernet though the labyrinth of obstacles presented by a 100 year old house would require something similar to the parting of the Red Sea. Matt, is eero going to help or do I need to just pack up and move?
@UndecidedMF
5 жыл бұрын
You’ve got one tricky situation. The sure fire way to solve it would be if you could find a creative way to string an Ethernet cable from the basement to another location as the backbone between a couple of WiFi access points. But that sounds like a task no sane person would want to take on. I do think that a mesh system like Eero, Google WiFi, or Ubiquiti AmpliFi would work better for you. It might take more units to fill your home because the closer the nodes are to each other, the better the signal and throughout. It would probably be worth buying a setup from someplace you can easily return it if it doesn’t work out better ... but I think it would. I don’t think you’ll need to move. 😜

is mesh wifi good for a business? that also allows public to come. so lots of people will be connected to it at the same time. secondly, in a mesh wifi, do you just connect to one SSID? or do you have to connect to each separate wifi access point every time?

Nice video. I just bought the eero6 pro last weekend and it works really good coming from a TP link router that on a good day would deliver 80 meg WiFi from my gig service. On this ax version which wasn't out when you made this video they dropped the USB connection. Guess not many were using it for NAS. My question is I have a back haul or cat 6 back to my switch for each Eero thinking it would be better than using the mesh feature. You mention that the difference is a slight improvement in speed. I know this is because the mesh using a separate change for coordination vs an extender. It would be interesting to see the difference compared speed wise. Thanks

Thanks, David. I might be picking up the new version as well to get Wifi 6. Good suggestion for a test for an apple to apples comparison.

@@UndecidedMF And I wonder if the mesh even operates at all if it sees an internet source coming from the cat 6. So really at this point they are coordinated AP's. I'll await your next video. BTW I really like this set up. Initial earlier adopters had some issues but they have been fixed with firmware updates. I think I bought it in the sweet spot.

I have Google Wi-Fi and purchased the eero pro to see if it would be faster - and it's not. I'm getting faster Wi-Fi using Google Wi-Fi. Am I doing something wrong?

Is a mesh WiFi setup a good solution for extending WiFi to a detached garage or workshop? Or is separate access point a better option?

You’re videos are great. I have the EERO as well. It works wonderfully. Simple to use and maintain

Hello, I don't understand how is possible for a router to amplify the speed of my Internet while having to use the same Internet connection as my previous router. Eero has to connect to your previous WiFi router right? I'm so confused... Been trying to figure it out for 2 days now....

So they all need to be plugged into an Ethernet cable? I can’t have one plugged into my router and then plug the other 2 just with their power cords on the other ends of my house? From what I’ve seen everyone has each one plugged in with an Ethernet cable but I don’t have that long of cables to stretch across my house

I'm thinking about getting this device, and I was also looking at the TP Mesh as well. I read somewhere that in the small print when looking at the TP Mesh, that you are granting your info to be shared to other countries (China, US, others). I find this concerning, is this common among all Mesh systems? Is there anything for me to be concerned about?

So do I. Nothing beats a wired network for sure, but having wireless devices is unavoidable nowadays. If a device has an Ethernet port, I always use that over wifi.

Undecided with Matt Ferrell You are correct wifi is here to stay. All iPhones, iPads, laptops are all connected via WIfi and everything else wired.

Manny Santa You prefer it, because it's more reliable. But that's the point of these mesh systems like Eero. So you can have reliable speed and connectivity without the degradation of both trying to extend the signal of your main wifi router.

Hi Matt. Thanks for the great video! Question about how to connect my eeros.... I just purchased the pro system with three eeros. My home has three levels (including basement). The Spectrum cable comes into the house in the basement and that’s where the modem is. Uber DVW32CB. There also is a switch down there. Can you explain the best way to wire these things? Unfortunately, the Ethernet wires from the switch that go into the wall are not labeled well, so I will play a guessing game for a while, but I assume I use those wires to connect the second and third eero? Thanks in advance!

Have the recent eero updates fixed the iPhone issue? I am still seeing blog posts where some people are saying it is better now. This is the only thing holding me up from buying eero. Thank you.
