There have been quite a few comparisons where somebody records a whole bunch of instances of a saturation plug-in, a limiter with and without oversampling.... And when it adds up, there's an audible difference! It's kind of a crispy, slight big crushing effect and When it's happening either by accumulation of a lot of instances.... or one plugin is doing it really really badly, it comes well into the audible range..... Some people don't mind it and they feel like it sounds "modern". To me it's harsh.. It doesn't feel analog... I don't like it. I really don't like the accumulation of aliasing. A little here or there can be basically imaudible

Yes, and we talked about the cumulative effect in the full video, however, those tests that adds a whole bunch of saturation, limiter plugins to the point of hearing the accumulation of aliasing, are done in excess for testing purposes, the reality of a regular mixing session, is often a different story. My point is that oversampling will not make or break your mix. Like anything else, you like it, you keep it, you don't, that's also fine.

@@mixdownonline certainly not In the way that some people think it would! It doesn't mean that there's not a different feel when there isn't quite a bit of aliasing... A mix can still feel harsh though, even avoiding aliasing almost entirely! Certainly there are many masterful mixing engineers who don't worry about whether plugins are aliasing who produce far better mixes than anti-aliasing technicians! I see your point. But I've checked out limiters that alias audibly all on their own... I just think it's still something to keep in mind..... At least for my taste! I'm not a huge fan of the slightly bit crush sound of some lo-fi... But that's just me

@@ramspencer5492 Glad you know what I mean. I can't argue with the taste factor, lot if mixing decisions are about taste :-)

Unsolicited feedback: this type of short will perform better if do less setup. You give people time to swipe off telling us it’s going to be a short explanation.

Is Oversampling in a way - more is better? Is Oversampling still needed when Dithering is used? Full of questions - sorry :-).

But according to some audio forum people it will make your mix 100 times better. Which one is the truth?

@@BukanIbuMu hi john! well, do the test yourself export a mix with oversampling and the same without. personally I was unable to hear a difference I especially saw my cpu drop dramatically. I think that this is probably more useful in mastering than in mixing. and it's true that there are so many different opinions on the subject. test it for yourself there is nothing better :) have a great evening.
