Thank you for this! I was diagnosed with pcos a few months ago at the age of 25. I was completely terrified and relieved at the same time. I went undiagnosed for almost 10 years in those 10 years I would only get my period if I was on birth control. If I was not on the pills I would just not get a period. I knew absolutely nothing about pcos a few months ago. Seeing this now makes me more secure about having pcos and hearing more stories is amazing!

Rachel Fraser I hope that knowing what you have means things make a bit more sense and it's easier for you to understand your body. I discovered I had PCOS six months ago and I feel so much better now because all my symptoms make sense and I can be proactive in sorting them out (Doctors suggested inofolic supplements, not hormones, and a low carb diet and I lost weight / my periods came back). I hope you find medicines/supplements/treatments that work for you and your lifestyle.

Ever since I started my periods I knew something wasn't quite right and I have spent 6 years going to my GP and saying I have irregular periods, acne, excessive hair growth and I have always been overweight with it difficult being difficult to lose. My GP would always ask one question "Are you trying for baby?" and because I never was, he would say not to worry about it and send me on my way but I am someone who needs to know what is causing the problem so last year after 5 years of this I went to demand answers, I was sent for new blood tests every 2 weeks because they couldn't figure out the issue but realised I have hormone imbalance of some sort. This year I finally went for a scan and the results of that were inconclusive but the doctor did say it was most likely PCOS, what I thought 6 years ago. Surprising, the doctor did not want me going on the pill and tbh I didn't want to because my body is already pretty fucked up I don't need it made worse. So after all that I don't have an still official diagnosis and I just want to know for sure what is wrong.

I discovered I had PCOS about three months ago, age 21. I knew about this syndrome, and whenever I read about its symptoms something in my brain always "clicked". BUT, I experience lighter side effects of PCOS, so I never really self-diagnosed or went to the doctor to talk about it. Now instead, I absolutely recommend at least talking to your GP if you think there's something "odd" about your periods. I found out that having irregular menstrual cycles is NOT the norm (everything that isn't a 28-30 days cycle is considered irregular), and it's worth doing some researches if you suspect anything. My BMI is 18, so weight is not a problem and I hope it never will be, BUT dear lord I went trough childhood (yes, childhood -- early puberty) and adolescence thinking I was a bit of a freak because of my body hair, no fun in that. I do strongly want to have babies, but I want to be optimistc -- if there is a way to conceive, I'm gonna go through it. TBH now I live my life exactly as I did before, a bit more relieved because I now have a name for a a series of things that I always thought were just "bad luck". The only thing is that I have to consider the insulin part, and maybe reconsider my diet once age and other factors will make a diabet prospect more worrying (and maybe take up exercise, which is good for you, PCOS or not).

Both my GP and my OBGYN (who are wonderful people and professionals, I was very lucky to have a quick and thorough diagnosis, so have a bit of faith in the system and don't despair!) insist on me having to be put on the pill to "give my ovaries a rest" (I have never been on any form of hormonal contraception), and I'm going to see my obgyn tomorrow to talk about it :) I find it curious though that some obgyn don't recommend it and some do

Loved this video!!! I also have PCOS but what I found out recently is that there are 2 different types of PCOS! The main one is the one you described with high insulin and testosterone levels but the other one doesn't have high testosterone and the cysts are caused by environmental factors affecting hormones such as a vitamin/mineral deficiency like vitamin d or zinc, it can vary from person to person. I could never understand when I was diagnosed why everything I read about PCOS said to lose weight but I wasn't overweight and didn't have excess hair growth yet still had extremely irregular periods. It is only since going vegetarian last year that I have started a somewhat regualr cycle again and the symptoms of my PCOS are clearing up! Sorry for the long comment but the more info we have about PCOS the better!!!

So relatable... I don't have PCOS but I had ovarian cancer at an usually young age (14)... With only one ovary left I've battled huge hormanal changes, lots of different pills and lots of (male) doctors giving me their own opinions on what I should do with my body. Frustratingly, my doctor refused to put me on a pill after my operation, as he thought 14/15 was too young to be on it so I essentially had period for about 2 years straight with IMMENSE PAIN. After lots of trials on finding a pill that actually regulated me I was put on Diane35 - which is the same as Dianette I think - which as far as I know is used for acne, but is banned in some countries, causes blood clots and has a huge link to depression. And I've been on that for years. Yet no matter what, doctors can't really tell me what the effect of any of this has? I've been told that my 'time limit' for babies is shorter so I better be a mum quicker (ew), yet no one has answers for the long term effect of a heavy pill, or why my period was irregular after my operation, or why I suddenly had immense period pain (that still continues with the pill, and hurts despite taking opiates?). PERIODS ARE FRUSTRATING ): But this series is great, thank you Hannah for continuing to care about women's bodies and inform the world xx

I might already have said this in the comments of another Hormone Diaries episode but I have PCOS. I started my periods when I was 12 and for the first five years of having them they were pretty regular but in the year of me being 17 turning 18 I had no periods for five straight months and it was suspected that I had PCOS. When I was 19 I was put on the Yasmin combined pill to help regulate my cycle but I came off it two years later because my GP told me it wasn't good for my weight so I've been put on various POPs since. Shortly after I came off Yasmin I had an external ultrasound scan that confirmed I had PCOS. The pill I'm currently on is called Desogestrel but when I finish my current pack I will go back on Cerazette that I was prescribed last week.

Thanks so much for this video! PCOS is so confusing and I feel often times it's diagnosed prematurely. I for one have been diagnosed with it like a month ago, but I'm not overweight at all nor do I struggle with my insulin or have issues with hair growth. However I've had rather bad skin for like 3 or 4 years now, my period has been insanely irregular ever since I got it and my blood shows unusual high numbers of male sex hormones like androgens... On the scan my gyn didn't even see anything on my ovaries, they seem to be just fine! but literally instantly without any further testing my doctor prescribed an anti-androgenous pill and diagnosed PCOS, so weird!
@irismeeow

hey, you can be diagnosed with PCOS if you have at least 2 of the following symptoms: irregular periods, excess androgen (and all the symptoms that come with that), polycystic ovaries. so it does make sense :) some women have more symptoms, some less but you definitely don't need polycystic ovaries to have PCOS (ironically).

I think the confusion about the terminology is that everybody having periods has ovarian cysts; just usually one or two at a time. Basically, during the process of ovulation, the follicles expand into a fluid filled sack which is technically a cyst and so often called an ovarian cyst (but, seeing as they're usually harmless, I assume this is why the nhs are moving away from that terminology), the cyst then bursts and the egg is released. Some people can actually feel this happening as a sharp stabbing pain on one side of their abdomen and can identify which ovary that month's egg comes from! Having additional ovarian cysts is a symptom of PCOS, but not universal (wikipedia tells me 15% of people with PCOS have them) and other PCOS symptoms can persist even if the ovaries are removed. The usual diagnostic sign they see on ovarian scans which they call cysts are actually immature follicles rather than actually being ovarian cysts
@tristanroberts
7 жыл бұрын
From wikipedia: In a normal menstrual cycle, one egg is released from a dominant follicle - in essence, a cyst that bursts to release the egg. After ovulation, the follicle remnant is transformed into a progesterone-producing corpus luteum, which shrinks and disappears after approximately 12-14 days. In PCOS, there is a so-called "follicular arrest"; i.e., several follicles develop to a size of 5-7 mm, but not further. No single follicle reaches the preovulatory size (16 mm or more). According to the Rotterdam criteria, which are widely used for diagnosis, 12 or more small follicles should be seen in an ovary on ultrasound examination.

I have PCOS! I don't enjoy the side effects, obviously, but knowing I have PCOS certainly explains a lot & it's been a relief actually. Trying to lose weight to no avail was SO frustrating in my teenage years - it's nice to know there's a reason why. I'm on Alesse at the moment and it's a low dosage (of estrogen) birth control pill, and it's been really helpful for regulating periods and reducing acne - could be a decent option for peeps with PCOS. Oh also: the science has definitely changed 😂 they're not cysts, just "dead" eggs that haven't been expelled with regular periods - they appear on scans as blobs that look like cysts.

Yeah my doctor suspects I have PCOS but I've never had a weight lose issue or an acne problem, I actually had the odd case of lack of acne. Insulin allows cells to take in glucose, which is used as fuel and allows the cell to function properly. So actually, when your body becomes resistant to insulin (meaning that the cells wont recognize it, and therefore they wont take in the glucose), it produces more insulin to try solve the problem. And this leads to diabetes. Also all women have follicles where the eggs grow. Normally, an egg is released from its follicle every month (ovulation). However, in women with PCOS, if the follicle fails to open and release the egg, the fluid remains inside the follicle and forms a functional cyst (which is different from cancerous - is that the word in english? - cysts)

Regarding to the weight gain thing: So i was diagnosed properly when I was 18. One of the reasons being was me being overweight and they marked it as a symptom. Since then (I'm 23 now) EVERY SINGLE DOCTOR TOLD ME DIFFERENT THINGS "no weight gain is unrelated" "oh yes it is completely related" and honestly? I have seen so many doctors about this issue especially recently and honestly? It feels like no one actually knows anything about this and it looks like they don't care to know. The solution usually offered is "go on the pill" and that's it. In the past year I felt so lost in the system and it just felt like that the information about this condition is completely up in the air and no one bothers looking more into it and actually help people who suffer from it

My symptoms were periods, which would sometimes be about 10 days light, sliight weight gain - about 3-4 kilos, and a horrendous acne outbreak on the jaw area. The scan showed about 5-6 cysts per ovarie, with the biggest ones about 4 cm in diameter. So yeah, cysts after all! And also different women, different experiences!

Symptoms wise, ever since i started puberty i have never had a normal period; without the aid of the pill (i take Loestrin) i bleed every single day, only a small amount but psychologically it was so draining. But after a while of having no periods, even after coming off the pill i just wanted to be "normal"; i wanted to bleed like everyone else, complain about my period like everyone else but i couldn't and probably will never be able to. I've also been taking antidepressants for 4 years with the PCOS being a major contributor. Iv been diagnosed for about 7 and still haven't come to terms with it.

I have not weight issues, I'm a bit over weight because I don't exercise a lot, I can easily lose the weight and in fact I actually lost weight when I started puberty instead of gained weight (I know odd, but I actually lost weight because my asthma disappeared and I was a lot more involved in sports). I feel like my symptoms don't match at all with PCOS especially because my periods are painless and for the first 3-4 years of having periods I always got annoyed but not having pain because I never had a warning, blood just randomly started to come out of my vagina, or at least that's how it felt. After 3-4 years of getting periods and started tracking when I got my period and I knew better when to expect a period because I tracked it and they're always +/- a week of the expected date. Because I've never had weight lose problems and never had painful periods (and all the rest of the women in my family did) I thought that there's no way I could have PCOS because I thought those were the hallmark signs you needed, at least one of them. I can't wait to find out what I actually have. If it's PCOS, then fun fact, you can have it even if you don't have painful periods or don't find it difficult to lose weight.

I was told by an insensitive doctor when I was about 15 that I may have PCOS. I was a fairly late bloomer when it came to periods and they soon became irregular up to 6 months or so. I have a lot of dark hair which I assume was just hereditary and I always yo-yo'd with my weight. It was terrifying being told that I couldn't have kids but this doctor said you never know because the "likes of Victoria beckenham suffer with it and look at her" (the fuck?) I had no idea what it was and felt like my womanhood was taken away from me. I had scans which came back boarder line and now I'm 22 and still have no idea other than I *assume* I'm ok. I'm careful with what I eat (especially with IBS) my periods are regular from taking Yasmin years ago but the growth in facial hair is insane. I epilate / pluck after years of shaving (I know) and it's a constant struggle - my hormone tests showed nothing obvious but I definitely feel something isn't right. Waffling over :(

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 11, I’m currently 20 and have only now learned about those little sac things that are surrounding the eggs in my ovaries!!! That’s crazy. I also thought that I had cysts growing on my ovaries but alas I guess not! Love these videos ❤️

I have PCOS and recently decided to get off the pill (this was about 3 months ago) because, like you girls were saying in the video, just because a doctor recommends it, doesn't mean it's the best for my body. Also, I have a feeling that all being on the pill really does for me is give me regular periods and a bunch of other nasty side effects and, honestly, I'm not that bothered about irregular periods to put myself through that shit. I've tried so many different brands but none of them work for me. I had issues with acne, too, because of the PCOS and got treatment for that. Also always had eccessive hair growth but I've always felt kind of "meh who cares" about it because fuck society and their standards of beauty anyway.

I was diagnosed with Pcos syndrome at 17 i was told there wasnt anything they could do and i wouldnt be able to have children. It was devistating to hear and was left to just get on with my life. Im 29 now and i have a 2 year old little boy. It took me and and my partner 18 months to conceive which is pretty normal. Since having a baby my symptoms are still there but dont worry me to much. Loved this video xxx

They really need to stop telling people it will make them infertile, it won't, it makes it difficult for SOME women to conceive, but they still CAN! They should have told you that you MAY have fertility issues and if you did you could have done IVF. All hope isn't lost even if it's difficult to concieve.

Oh, just for the confusion, the 'cysts' are actually vacuums. Basically, the egg is produced within the ovary, but people with PCOS don't release a hormone that allows it to follow through to the fallopian tube, so it becomes a vacuum instead. These vacuums can build up and replace important tissue, making people with PCOS infertile, so that's why it's so important to see what your options are!

I have PCOS and was on the same pill as the first one you mention for several years, until it started giving me migraines. My worst symptom was acne caused by the excess androgen and I've been taking spironolactone for about six months now, which, while it wasn't developed for the purpose, does work to block androgens. It doesn't make my periods regular, alas, which is why sometimes people take it with a progesterone only pill, but that doesn't really bother me. It's nice to finally have clearish skin at 29 (after struggling with it for half my life) without having to worry about the unpleasant or dangerous side-effects of birth control pills. It would be even nicer if they would do more research on PCOS though, considering how common it is...

I have PCOS and it sucks! I wax my face and I’m over weight. The doctor says lose weight but for people with PCOS it’s 10 times harder to do that!! I don’t take any medication for it because of the side effects. Unfortunately I now have diabetes which I dealing ok with. It’s a condition I wouldn’t wish on anybody. It’s also made it impossible to get pregnant which has been very hard emotionally for my husband and I. It breaks our heart when we see people with their babies knowing we will never have that.

I got diagnosed with PCOS with 15 as well. I have always been a little overweight and couldn’t loose it that easy even with regular exercise. I was also a little more hairy, especially my arms, my neck and my lower area, but all of these hairs are blonde, so it was never something that stood out. But then my periods were suuuuper irregular, I would bleed for like 2 weeks and then nothing for over a month and so on... So the doctor made some blood tests with me and found out I had PCOS... He said if it doesn‘t get treated I would not be able to have kids later on, and I know how I said that I don‘t mind because I always knew that I didn‘t want to have kids, so I was fine with that 😅 But then the insulin thing is something strange too... I always had pretty clear skin, no acne or anything, and my blood sugar level that gets influenced by the insulin was not only normal, it was actually in the lower area of „normal“, so exactly the opposite of what someone with PCOS normally has. But I was also always wondering: Did my body tell me that I will not be able to have kids and that influenced the wish for it from the start? And also I am Bisexual and I was always wondering if that was also somehow influenced by my testosterone level, or is it just who I am? 😊 (I‘m ok with both :) ) And am I ever going to loose that weight?!?!?! (Going now to the gym, eating well and in a deficit and dancing)

I only recently found out that I have PCOS (about three months ago), but I have had the symptoms since I started my period. It has always been very irregular, going from every two months to every seven-ish, and most recently even a year and a half between periods. I also always had horrible cramps during and about a week before them. When I started my period at 12 and it came so irregularly, I went to a few doctors about it and got an ultrasound as well. One doctor just was like, "some people simply have irregular periods, birth control could regulate it but as soon as you went off it it'd be back to irregular" so that was that for me, and they actually told me at the ultrasound that I had "cysts" too when it's actually not that. And, I didn't get the PCOS diagnosis then at all. I got pills whose only function was to regulate the period and took them a couple times but then didn't really bother anymore (who wants their painful period every three weeks if it could just be every four months instead? (I also happen to be asexual and not sexually active so there just is no upside to a regular period)). During university now, I've had a lot of stress which made my period even more irregular, and after the 1.5 years of absence I got another doctor's appointment where I got the diagnosis after vaginal ultrasound instead of the one on the abdomen. Blood results also showed I had higher testosterone level and also have increased body and facial hair, but more so of late as well. She just recommended birth control (also in case I wanted children, which I don't, I'd have to kickstart my period with birth control first), and said it wasn't harmful in and of itself so I simply left everything how it is. I pluck/shave/wax my "unusual"? """""male""""" body/facial hair if I feel like it, at least before events/holidays. And finally, I had told my doctor that I am asexual (which I had to explain which kinda sucked from a medical professional but ok), and after she confirmed my PCOS diagnosis, she hinted that she thinks a regulated testosterone level would "cure" me/make me sexually active which made me feel really bad for a bit, so I guess that's about the mental health part of it. Wow I am really sorry at how long this got but when else would there ever be the opportunity to get all this off my chest? Thanks for the video, I think watching it before my diagnosis would have helped send me in the right direction

As an "older" woman with both Pcos and Endometriosis i enjoyed this video so much. I also do not want children, ( lucky really) ) The weight is a big issue for for me, even though i am a size 10/12, i exercise a lot and eat well. I have been having laser hair removal for the last year, although it does come at a price.... it is sooooo worth it!! I wish i has had it done years. ago.

I only recently started eating low carb (no too strict, but basically have cut out most of the worst, starchy ones) and it has helped me so much! It's the one time I actually feel like I'm vaguely getting somewhere with weight loss, even if I'm still losing slower than anyone else without PCOS. I also now eat a tooon more protein, and the difference in my energy levels is crazy and therefore my depression has been easier to manage. If the side effects from testosterone are bad for you, cut down on dairy! (I just can't live that way haha) Another side to all of this that isn't discussed very often has to do with gender identity that hasn't been discussed or researched nearly enough, but that I thought I should mention here if anyone else has been feeling just as isolated or confused. I'm currently questioning my gender and realizing that 'woman' doesn't fit me quite right, and it can really suck how many resources go on about how "you're no less of a woman!" It just sucks cuz it's all such superficial stuff, and as Leena was saying: hair is only not accepted on a purely gendered level and it's RIDICULOUS. So yeah, you're not alone if you have PCOS and have some uncomfortable feelings about your gender - studies have shown that many trans men have had PCOS and that it's possible that the hormonal stuff has some interplay here. Unfortunately, a lot of research talks about "curing" trans men by curing PCOS and I think all of that is bs - there are so many other factors that play into gender than just having a bit higher androgen levels that it just doesn't make sense? Anyway, researching into gender and PCOS has made me feel more comfortable in my gender and helped me feel more okay with finding comfort in not fitting on either end, but rather somewhere in between. And that's okay. None of us are alone in any of this - remember that.

I'm currently being tested for PCOS. I'm 27 and it's taken 10 years to get to this stage, my extremely irregular and very painful periods were always blamed on being overweight. I had a scan and apparently don't have anything on/in my ovaries leading my GP to tell me I don't have it. However another GP at my practice told me I have all the other symptoms and the "cysts" are just one symptom. I finally have an appointment at the hospital with a specialist in November. Doctors drag things out and Ness you around so much. If you're even a little overweight that's all the doctors see at first, I've suffered for over a decade because the doctors didn't test me for anything. In fact this time I was told that apparently I had a blood test 10 years ago and the results were "iffy" but I was never told, it was never followed up and nothing happened about it. I'm just glad I've finally got some answers and can attempt to move forward with things.

The NHS basically only recognises the diagnosis of PCOS as a woman who has excess hair growth, high testosterone, is overweight etc. HOWEVER- PCOS can also be associated with other hormonal issues that basically just aren't recognised by the NHS. A relative of mine has been diagnosed with PCOS and I haven't yet but experience many of the same symptoms as she did before treatment. Neither my relative nor I experience any of the traditional PCOS symptoms: we are both slim, little body hair etc. with low oestrogen but not high testosterone. The low oestrogen wreaks havoc on my urinary tract because it changes the PH balance of the area causing it to be more alkali and less acidic (should be slightly acidic) as well as a myriad of other contributing problems such as less natural good bacteria etc. This causes me to get UTIs very frequently with no cause and other bladder related pain and issues. This can be extremely painful day to day and incredibly debilitating. My relative was the same and also had other symptoms, however in order to be diagnosed she had to see a private doctor, since no nhs doctor would test her or take her seriously. They even told her it was all in her head and she was just making it up, and I've had similar experiences with nhs doctors. They simply don't recognise other forms of hormonal problems in women and its really awful and upsetting when you are essentially living with chronic pain, to not be taken seriously by doctors whose job it is to help you with your health. When my relative was tested- lo and behold, clear markers of hormonal problems, but NHS doctors hadn't even bothered to look. Luckily with support from family she could afford to pay for a private doctor or else she may have had to live with pain and may not have even been able to have children. I believe this lack of understanding of the female hormonal system is largely due to sexism in the NHS and just a lack of care and concern for women's health. It is truly despicable the amount of pain the numerous NHS doctors have caused my relative, and my own experience tells me this is not merely a few rogue doctors- It is simply policy to ignore women in pain.

I have PCOS but was never told I had cysts. Just have irregular periods, high "male" hormones, extra body and facial hair etc., I don't get a lot of weight gain as I have an eating disorder but that also contributes to irregular periods and body hair! No doctors can give me a definite answer which is annoying so I don't really know what's happening

I have to admit for all the sucky things about having PCOS, for me, the difficulty of having kids and spacy periods are the few things I like. I don't want to have kids and I absolutely hate my periods to the point I am noticeably grumpier when I have them. The draw back is that my period last for ages when they do come which sucks ass.

Hi Hannah, i'm not sure if you are going to see this message as it has been a while since you have uploaded but i wanted to touch on a few aspects of PCOS which you missed/ were misinformed on. Firstly, there are two forms- polycystic ovaries and polycyctic ovarian syndrome and there can be quite a bit of miss diagnosis and information surrounding them. people with PCO will have the excess follicles, difficulty falling pregnant, possible period irregularity, painful sex etc but will not have the hormonal side effects of those who have the syndrome. Secondly, cysts and follicles are often used interchangeably to describe fluid filed sacs. One of the key features of PCO and PCOS is a ring of cysts/follicles around the perimeter of the ovary (looks like a string of pearls). hopefully this helps a least one confused individual, but i really would recommend talking to a doctor or endocrine specialist.

I have this too!! I was diagnosed when I was twelve but not really officially, it was just suspicion with no follow up. When I was 17 I got checked again because my period is all over the fucking place, early this year. It's so weird how there's no tablets or anything to help the release of eggs for people not wanting to get pregnant. No method to help me has been suggested so im assuming there is none? but that in itself really pisses me off 1)because there seems to be a trend in misinformation or lack of information and 2) because it communicates to me that there aren't any people researching what can help PCOS. I have my period with week - two week long gaps and i would like that to not be a thing and have made it clear in the first case that my period was a problem I would to sort out - yet all medical professionals seem to be doing with PCOS people is just remarking "o thats funny", sending us to whatever external office to get tested, then just leaving us there to sit with with syndrome. This condition isn't horrible or urgent, but still is effecting me negatively. I mean have 2 events of 6-9 day periods a month, more money spent of sanitary items and less time to be sexually active (my country isn't as accepting of period sex :( cry) leaving me and others pissed off and helpless. arehg;erwh yluhtgur.

I started showing symptoms of PCOS about two years ago when my period stopped completely and my body hairgrowth got even worse than it was before. I started having really bad mood swings, hairloss, bad skin and my facial hair got thicker and thicker. since then my periods decided to come back, I'm taking Spironolactone to help with the other symptoms, I bought an IPL gun (to kill hair) and I also started a plant-based diet (not sure if that does anything). I feel like most of my symptoms haven't changed that much but I'm on a good path to getting better. I still struggle sometimes when I see how much hair I lost again or how much facial hair I've grown again but in the end it doesn't matter. I'm still me. I'm still beautiful in my own way and so are you.

My mum was diagnosed with PCOS in her twenties. Still, she managed to have two children. I was born with a cyst in one of my ovaries and the doctors wanted me to have it removed when i was a couple of months old. Somehow the cyst went away on its own, so I escaped surgery. Then, when I was about 15 I was having really irregular periods, so I booked an appointment with my ob/gyn and she told me I had a number of cysts again, but it was not really a condition and didn't get any treatment. Then my periods became regular again as the years went on and now I'm in my early twenties and last year I was diagnosed again with cysts and they prescribed me the pill but I couldn't take it then because I was undergoing surgery for another thing (literally one week after my appointment) and I couldn't be on any type of meds, and a couple of months later my periods became regular once more but much heavier... And that's where I'm at now. I don't even know what's going on down there any more, but I don't wanna fuck with my hormones either.

I have PCOS. Got diagnosed this year (I'm 25) and now I just got a letter in the mail about how I should get a flu shot because I'm in some "risk group" and I"m like what risk group... the diabetes one or? I guess the diabetes one. Anyways. I got diagnosed because once I got off the pill (because I forgot to take it and was just waiting for my period to start again) that I was only on because of my hairy problems.. and then I didn't get my period for 2 years. Went to the doctor after 3 or 6 months or whatever and she was like "come back in x months". So I came back and they were like you might have pcos let's test it. And I read about it and I was like oh I for sure have that I have all the symptoms. But I didn't get proper diagnosed till this year because my gynacologist and doctor couldn't agree on how to test me at the time but then this year I went back and they were like oh no we don't need that you already meet the criteria just because you have the hair and the acne and the irregular periods. I'm like great well they could've told me that 3 years ago. But I think the criteria changed as well. Anyways. I'm trying this dairy-free, gluten-free, soy -free, low glycemic load diet but it is hard because I hate cooking and i'm in Hungary and I don't speak the language so how am I going to find all the things I need or how do I know if I can even have something lol. I tried laser for the hair on my face, it didn't work, only made it worse. Mentally it sucks because I just feel worthless like not only am I overweight, I also have too much hair everywhere and the acne doesn't help either. Kids I am not too concerned about I don't really want them.

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS about 2 months ago. I'm still in denial about it, hoping that I can change it with diet, exercise and anything else I can try. I'm seeing a naturopath and after having my bloodwork done, he didn't see anything related to the typical hormones surrounding PCOS as being a cause for it. Instead, he saw that I had low vitamin D and iodine levels, which are things that contribute to hormone production and regulation. I've been taking vit D and seaweed (high in iodine) for the last few months, limiting soy products, and exercising more. I'll be getting my blood done in the next few weeks, anxious to see my new results!

I have PCOS and I take a supplement that's called 'clositol' here in Italy and it's mainly inositol, a substance that helps reducing our resistence to insuline. Having PCOS has been kind of weird of me, because I suffer from binge and emotional eating so I don't really know how to draw a line. in my early teens I was just a chubby kid, nothing crazy, but growing up I was bullied for the hair and fat symptoms a lot and that led me to an unhealthy relationship with food so now it's all kinda weird 🤔 but honestly what actually freaks me out is the prediabetic part

I have really bad hair growth on my face, back of my legs, my back, my belly generally everywhere appart from my head I have a receding hairline and male pattern baldness this make me feel very unfemnimine and gets me down I've been told unless I lose 30% of my body weight unassisted the nhs won't help me I'm currently 16stone. I have PCOS and it sucks cause I want kids so badly but I also know adoption is an option as well as other ways to have children. If I took a fertility test and they told me I was infertile or there is practically no chance of me conceiving naturally of course I would be upset but it's like you know? When you suffer from stuff like this you learn very quickly that crying about it won't solve anything. Of course you still do but after a good cry and feeling sorry for yourself I find it much easier to just move on with life. I suffer from Crohns disease as well so for me it applies to both. :)

Hannah, it would be lovely if one of these videos was about retroverted uterus. I have it - It shouldn't be a problem in having babies or anything like that. It's just your uterus being in a different position than it should be. It caused me a lot of pain - during sex, during using tampons. It's because these things are touching my uterus. Now, I'm trying to use the menstrual cup. It doesn't cause any pain, but i've tried several different cups and they still keep leaking, even after a year I've been using them. They told me it's got a thing to do with me being a "different shape" down there. I didn't know about it for quite a time when i was younger and i kept wondering why certain positions hurt sooo much. It would be lovely, if there are more young ladies, who maybe haven't been to gynecologist yet, to know about this.
