not everyone really wants something to be popular though in the first place; no one asked for what they want to be popular.

Sure. It’s hard to control once something (an idea, text, etc.) enters the public sphere.

do u think pop culture and internet culture is different? like maybe a subset of each other but i feel like the internet has impacted our generation way more differently than any forms of media and platforms ever had. we are constantly using and exposed to the internet, we have tiktok, vlogs, reddit, twitter, fandom and stan culture, memes, edits, discord, snapchat, musically, dance and music trends, self improvement videos, viral videos that come and go so fast. i just think its a very different category and also it deserves its own field of study

The Ben Swolo idea is just ahead of its time. We don’t understand it yet, or what Johnson was thinking and we probably never will.

I'm interested to see what Johnson would do in his trilogy (assuming it's still slated to happen)....but I demand higher and higher pants (not from one film to the next, mind....but literally every time the camera changes....the pants must creep up by 10%).

There could be a lot of answers here. The humanities (posthumanists would have things to say about this perspective/answer) anthropology, cultural studies.
