"Pro-blackness" is exactly what you stated it was. It's about being for, with, and about blackness and caring strongly for the issues, problems, concerns and realities of blackness and being black. It's that simple.

I think black models just need to be grateful our own is including us. Black people love to glorify and worship other races and cultures except their own people. Nothing wrong with having a diverse set of models for marketing. Makes no sense.

I JUST shared this in a safe space group and this video really does help me navigate some of the ways this subject influences how I feel about Pro Africa/ Pan African focused movements: "Is anyone else slightly annoyed by pro Africans who attribute random things to being "of African tradition"? Sometimes I feel like we as black Americans need to step back and acknowledge that we do not know African culture by reading books and buying alters, wearing traditional dress and yoni steaming (which I'm still super interested in). Do I sound silly? Am I missing something?"

I admit, I tend to over-intellectualize when I talk about race, largely because academia is where I really started to talk about race (and gender and sexuality). I'm trying to curb that, but old habits die hard.

I love watching your videos. especially this one. you always speak the truth. Some people take being ProBlack above and beyond but I believe it's more about your mental. Natural hair and raising your black fist doesn't always mean you're awake. I'm definitely doing all of my research now. you help me so much. We gotta stop trying to do everything the white people tell us to do. I'm still learning new things about this lifestyle. just educating myself.

As far as what it means to be pro-black, I think there is no one answer. It's like what it means to be a feminist. If you're actively trying to make it so women have equal pay and are out there protesting, you're a feminist. But if you're not protesting, but you are trying to educate people and issues of intersectionality, not using words that have their roots in misogyny, respecting the opinions of other women, creating groups for conversations about feminism, etc. That also makes you a feminist. I think if you have any of the qualities that are typically associated with being pro-black, like spreading knowledge, being conscious, giving back to the black community; or if you have all of these qualities, you're pro-black.

Ha you are like a conscious KZitem big sister. My pro-Black is re-establishing my connection with other Black ppl. Understanding that we are in this together and supporting Black people against everybody else cuz we are constantly under attack. But also knowing that not all Blacks are for Black people, so I choose to reject any and everything that is out to hurt/smudge Blackness. Being unapologetically Black at all times, and making this world a better place for ALL Black peoples, willing to lose some things in order for it to happen. #Uhuru

When people say well your both right or both sides share blame, is the classic cop out. One side is right , one side is to blame, but it's stated to protect WP feelings . Which is another way of minimizing black voices and very valid black complaints.

I loved this! Dope video Seren...Some things you and I have different understandings of. I really feel your approach and sensibility around being Black and conscious-Love you sis! I do have a slightly different understanding from you around Black business though- I identify as a socialist and anti-capitalist my orientation is not so much around supporting Black business per se. (Even though I'm obviously not against people individually supporting Black business..)

October Baby They're both about perception and expectation. Labeling Lamar as anti-black because his gf isn't black/as black as some people would like & this business' website not seeming black because there aren't enough black models. Can't explain it well in English.

Hi, I'm in the process of creating a pro black club at my school, I do consider myself as pro black but I do not support the idea that you cannot go out of your race and a engage yourself in a relationship with someone who is not black in my opinion love is love and I was told that if I date a white man I automatically am not pro black another thing that I do not support is saying that if a black person does something wrong and let's say a white person does the same exact thing that the black person did the black person is automatically right no matter what they did it is common sense if you do something wrong you should be punished for it we were raised that way if we stole something or hit someone our mommas will tear up our behinds so what's the difference? Like you said I don't want to have discussions with my peers and at the end say "Okay your both right" no I need to know the right answer so does not supporting those two factors make me non pro black?

I think pro black means uplifting black people, this means black men and women. I would start to change my mind set about these kind views if I see a double standard within the black community. If black men see that IR dating is ok well fine! Right? Once you see that black women dating IR and do not have a problem all of a sudden..OK. I think pro black means love of ones self unconditional as well as their other counter part. (This may not be making sense lol) But once black men term up with the oppresses to oppress black women then that is when I would do a 180 degree switch. Like these videos I be see on youtube! Calling black women bitches and wanting to rape them and other of that kind. I wish that I could have found back these videos. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k3-lzpWEkah0aqg kzitem.info/news/bejne/kYSXsYyOmnh5d4Y
