I just found your channel. I lived in DK for three years and am recreating my experience at home now. I still have some of my things from Denmark so it won't be too difficult but I am excited to have that look again. Thank you for being so thorough in this video!

True. But he did emigrate to Sweden and had an enormous impact in Swedish design. So lets say Austrian-Swedish 😃

The idea of Scandinavian design being about equality is quite funny. It is MEANT to be egalitarian, but generally it's always been too expensive to actually be that. :D

In fact, in the 40s when Børge Mogensen started and designed for FDB furniture, the whole idea was to create long-lasting furniture that was affordable to all.

You can invest in high quality sofa and rug, supplement with IKEA items - an voila - you have a basic, not expensive Scandinavian interior. Colour scheme and natural soft furnishing are important - can be achieved without spending a fortune.

@@AllanTorp I think that one specific example is about the only one though, FDB being a cooperative. The stuff by FDB was some of the first Danish furniture imported to England post-war. It all became widely mass produced (and in turn the designs suffered) eventually, and then it was affordable again in the late 60s. It's my belief Danish furniture making was driven by the fostering, yet competitive cabinetmakers guild. An industry pushing itself foward with increasingly adventurous design and craftsmanship. And obviously neither of those fantastic qualities make the stuff being prduced affordable!
