This was so helpful! Kinda crazy how prevalent slugging is on social media but how little nuance is used to talk about it- which is scary because it could really damage your skin (just learned this from this vid!😮). You really helped me understand it now💕Thanks, Devan!!!!❤

Also, I am a Blue Cocoon fan! I didn’t get the hype when I first used it, I think I was expecting overnight drastic results. However I’ve scaled down my skincare to a super simple routine and I’ve been using BC layered on top of spritzes of Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator and it has made a significant difference in my skin since December. Much less acne and a more even complexion. Love BC!!

YESSS! It majorly reduces inflammation and redness, so it can be so helpful for acne or rosacea!

If you’re in the comments wondering about Devan’s note abt blackheads - what worked really well for me (and I had blackheads on my nose from my teenage years into my 40’s) is an enzyme cleanser. The one I started with is no longer made and now I use the Dr Barbara Sturm version but there are several on the market. I like the powder based ones where you add a bit of water to make a paste and I keep it in the shower so using approximately twice per week. I had found that retinol can take it up a notch, if you need a bit more. The papaya or pineapple etc enzyme cleansers don’t work as well for my skin but it has worked for my friends. Hope this helps💕

Also, thanks D for this - I’ve seen lots of skincare videos on this topic but never heard that occlusives can make actives so much stronger. Thank you for mentioning that specifically!

Wow thanks so much for sharing! I’m so glad you found something so effective for your blackheads. I would totally try the slugging over salicylic acid on blackheads myself but I also know how to save my skin if something happens 😅😅

Thanks for doing this video! I really like the Cerave Baby ointment, as well as the REN balm. My ride or die is Egyptian Magic. I’ve been using it for years, and it never fails me. I definitely want to try the Futurewise balm! Thanks again, Dev!

Im obsessed with balms lol I find the regular aquaphor the best for lips. It really stays put for hours which is what my lips always need. The CeraVe is great but I find it much thinner and doesn't stay put as long. I find CeraVe more "hydrating" where aquaphor is thicker and stays put better. If you haven't tried it, I really like the vanicream ointment, it's more silicone like slippy? Has a really nice spread feel. Does have a little plastic scent because fragrance free, but it's my favorite for body/face dry spots. For intense barrier needs, I use the eucerin original healing cream. It's so thick it doesn't spread well, but it never aggravates my acne, but allows my skin to heal and stays put through the night😁❤️

Hi 👋🏻, Fellow esthetician here. Have you tried the Kiehl’s 10% squalane balm/masque. I use it for slugging and omg it’s the best!!! My skin heals sooo fast! I’m always testing out new products and such for client recommendations so I always keep that on hand. I do want to try the Asnifa balm tho.

Hi! Love your videos. Can i use benzoyl peroxide topical treatment and for example Naturium balm together? Or it makes it more powerful? ❤❤❤

Honestly benzoyl peroxide is the only ingridient that really helps with my acne. But it is so drying and i have 33 year old combination skin. Also my skin is really dull because of benzoyl peroxide. I moisturize a lot but nothnig has helped 100%.

I would use these together! The Naturium is the least occlusive here so as long as you don’t have super sensitive skin you should be fine!

Re: slugging over actives, is it better to use a lower percentage of the active and go ahead and slug, or is it better to use a higher percentage active without slugging and just save slugging for nights without acids/retinols?
@devanjesmer
Жыл бұрын
Great question. Slugging is really meant to keep the barrier strong, so I’d recommend use a stronger retinoid, and slug on days when I wasn’t using it for some extra repairing. You’ll still get the benefits of reduced irritation by keeping your barrier in tip top shape!

1000x potency of actives seems like a crazy number :O do you have a citation for that or was it an exaggeration?

I’ve been told this by several dermatologists that I trust who keep up with all the studies done in their field.

@@devanjesmer Ahhh. Perhaps one of them would be kind enough to send you a citation to post here, because I couldn't find anything when I searched. I'm just thinking the penetration enhancement probably varies by ingredient, so I'm wondering which specific ingredient(s) are enhanced by 1000x.
