This video is part two of our examination of how surface mount technology (SMT) is used to assemble PCBs and transform them into PCBAs.
In this video, we continue to look at the PCBA production process where SMT is being used to assemble these important boards found in electronic devices.
We will look at the next 2 elements of the PCBA production process on an SMA (surface mount assembly) line in detail: The reflow soldering process (heating and colling phases) and cleaning process (cleaning of solder flux residue and examples of what to avoid).
In particular, we'll cover:
- The thermal profiles for preheating, heating and coll down cycles (because PCBs must be heated before soldering in order for the flux in the solder paste to be activated)
- The importance of cleaning after soldering (electro-migration can occur when displaced particles cause accidental bridging between two parts of a circuit)
- Benefits of 'no clean' solder paste
After watching this video, importers will have a much clearer understanding of how the PCBAs used in their electronic devices are actually being made, and the intricate production process that your suppliers are undertaking on your behalf.
