Definitely much easier then taking the head off. An this is a great tutorial with explaining what your doing and actually doing it. Props to you bro💪

Exceptionally done! Very well explained and demonstrated. So happy you demonstrated the smart way vs the popping the head on and off method. This is very important on older 2 stroke engines due to the casting inconsistencies of the manufacturers (Suzuki was notorious for having squish band problems) causing engines to get bad raps when all that was needed was a decking job and different thickness gaskets.

Thanks man. Nice video. The artwork helped me better understand the squish band. I’ve been told with my ktm 250xc that one of the motor Mods is to have .018-0.02 milled from the main surface of the head. Which from your artwork I believe they are talking about the squish band area of the head. This was in essence to achieve more low end grunt. Is this increasing compression in essence?

Have you tried rosin core solder instead of solid core? It's softer and easier to squish.

Very well done sir. I've been scanning youtube for info on 2 stroke engines. Especially for someone like yourself who knows what he's doing. I knew little about them until recently. I am currently rebuilding a 1986 Yamaha 2 stroke golf cart engine. Getting to the point. what is the relationship between squish and compression ratio? The engine specs say 5.7 : 1, Combustion chamber volume (with spark plug) 1.91 cu in. Compression chamber type Dome + Squish. Could you advise on how to get the compression ratio up to a more respectable level? Thanks, and cheers.

Clever idea. Love it. But now, how to adjust a difference? And more importantly, what would be an acceptable tolerance?
@MichaelSabo
5 жыл бұрын
I thought I had in there that you can adjust the gap by switching out base gaskets, domes or machining. As far as tolerances; I did a fair amount of research and I got conflicting information from different sites. However the clearance I measured in my Banshee is in the safe zone as far as I know lol.

What is a good squish for a 4cvl 2stroke. I’m building my merc 4cyl2syroke. And I want to create the best squish. But I can’t find any reliable info. Im doin full rebuild full porting and balancing everything. One thing in serious question is the correct squish? I premix 50:1 with premium pump gas. I do run better fuel here an there but I want it set for pump gas as I run that more often.seems like you know your stuff so maybe you could help? Thank you. 1999 merc120hp 4cyl2stroke 1,800cc

Lots of opinions on squish band clearance but most experienced builders will tell you optimum is around .045 for durability and performance

I got a question. If your squish is incorrect on a single cylinder 2 stroke, what symptoms would occur? How much difference would it take to create an issue. My squish on my Tx300 was supposed to be .10mm and my measurement is .30. My KTM tech buddy said it's not enough to make a noticeable difference. Just don't want positive squish.

Small squishband will not create detonation! Its only there to get all the gases in to the combustionchamber, it is limited by the engine tolerances so piston not hit the head, to high compression ratio can cause detonations

I’ve got a rm250 2 stroke it pings and detnates sort of revs it self. Happens right when I start it some people said it’s a air leak so I redone the hole motor with new seals and gaskets also replaced the cranks seals twice. I check the squish and it was 1.40 mm. Any idea what it could be. Thanks

Okay when you do your squish or squash you are supposed to lay your lead on both sides of the wrist pin at the same time and only squash it one time not two and three times. Every time you smash the led it will make the LED thinner. The squash on a gasoline motor it's supposed to be about .060 to .065 stock. .050 is about as low as you want to go because you have a chance to take your rod bearing out. I was just tell you the right way to do it.

I'm mixed on this. I have learned both way and also seen ways of using modeling clay. Each method has its pros and cons but personally this method works for me and it's the easiest in my opinion. As far as the gap range; depending in what the motor is used for or the type of fuel you're running; you'll get people arguing over answers. I'm not a pro this is just what I've learned from manuals, forums and other videos.
