“Forest economy” acknowledges the many benefits that forests provide and why conserving the world’s forests is good for everyone. The Amazon rainforest is a powerhouse in sustaining life, natural resources, and livelihoods, and the Amazonian forest economy provides short- and long-term benefits to the people who depend on it.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Amazon Regional Environment Program (AREP), partners with national and local governments to work towards better resource management and sound policy for more sustainable forest economies.
Working together, USAID and partners can shift how forests are managed to improve livelihoods while restoring balance to our ecosystems.
