What is the Four Noble Truths? Venerable Minh Tue explains.
Venerable Minh Tue elucidates the Four Noble Truths-the four sacred truths taught by the Buddha. He begins with the Truth of Suffering (Dukkha), presenting the eight fundamental sufferings in human life: birth, aging, sickness, death, separation from loved ones, association with the disliked, unfulfilled desires, and suffering arising from the five aggregates (body and mind).
Next, the Truth of the Cause of Suffering (Samudaya) reveals the origins of suffering, born from desire, aversion, ignorance, and delusion-factors that lead to the formation of the five aggregates. He explains the “five hindrances”: sensual desire, ill will, sloth, restlessness, and doubt, which are the root causes of suffering.
Venerable Minh Tue then discusses the Truth of the End of Suffering (Nirodha), affirming that once desire, aversion, and ignorance are eliminated, suffering will cease. The Truth of the Path (Magga) is the way to liberation, with its eight components: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Through practicing Morality, Concentration, and Wisdom, practitioners gradually attain insight, thus freeing themselves from suffering.
He concludes that reaching liberation requires perseverance through numerous lifetimes, as the Four Noble Truths are profound truths, not easily understood or fully practiced within a single lifetime.
