As a german its pretty clear that he is saying "Die Waffen - legt an!" Even the pronounciation is exactly as it should be (very common military parade term to make the "Waffen" and legt" sound long and stretched) I never realized there is even a discussion about this on the internet because as a native german speaker its so obvious. The term "Die Waffen - legt an!" is a common german military term to shoulder weapons before marching - which also explains why we hear the shout and then the marching sounds.

Just a quick note, military marching commands often aren't pronounced in an intelligible way. For example, in the USAF, we count "HUT, TOOP, THREEP, FOURP," instead of "One, two, three, four," or you would say "tench hut" instead of "attention." Just something to keep in mind when analyzing what they are saying.

I'm a member of the US AirForce and the command "reform line! ready march!" makes 100% sent to me to be honest. "Reform line" isn't a marching command I know personally but ready march is actually extremely common command of execution for a marching command. Different branches and different military will use different wordings for the same command. It could be a command causing a split group, flight, platoon, Ect to march back together to form one full formation and or to for one singular column. But I'm pretty much one hundred 100% certain its english and that the second part of the verse is "ready march!" as the command of execution.

also as for the quick time marching its usually around 116 steps per min but at ceremonies this is usually brought to a crisper and slower set of steps. still faster than normal but not at regular quick time. also im pretty sure the sample used in the music is slightly slowed down for bpm purposes

Ready march is not a command. There is a prep command, usually consist in ng of a direction, followed by the execution command. The command is Right, Face Foward, March. Column files from the right, forward, march. Right wheel, march. Ready march is not a command neither is form a line. The command is "unit" fall in. While marching the command is, Guide, left or guide, right. But your air force it's okay we all know the air force doesn't march.

@@w415800 Sometimes when drill commands are delivered the words are not fully pronounced. For instance it is not uncommon for "Left, Right" to come out as "Eft Ight". I think they're saying B Sqn Quick March. Reasoning is that in drill you usually have two parts to a command, the first is more to alert those on parade and the second is the order to do as told. If you were stood at easy the words of command to move off would be as follows, "B Sqn, B Sqn Shun, By the left, Quick March". If you were reforming you wouldn't do so in quick march, you would hear a preparatory word of command and then be told to execute it. So to me the only thing that makes sense is that they are alerting B Sqn, then telling them to move.

I am both an U.S. Army veteran and a linguist (I've studied 21 languages and speak 7 relatively fluently). Not that it matters much here, your analysis is excellent. @1:34 is clearly "From the center, march". Not a command used in the U.S. Military but that "north American R" you described was spot on. I am leaning heavily toward your Canadian theory. If I recall, Westwood was a Canadian development house. This kind of analysis is something I do every day. As a linguist I listen to pronunciation, delivery, tone, tambour, etc to determine origin, purpose, mood and so on. It is quite rare to see someone else obsessing just as I do over such things. Nobody could come up with a reasonable English line for it, but "Reform line, quick march" sounds spot on. I do like the idea you present, that because it's been sampled and messed with, he's saying whatever the sound engineer wanted him to be saying. I'm a drum sergeant in a Scottish pipe band. In the video I saw the comment suggesting that the man is saying "reform line - break march". I would actually say that what's being yelled out in the voice sample is: "reform ranks, quick march". It's quite often that on a parade or practice we will be given this command, almost word for word by our drum major. The language also sounds English to me but this is the difficulty - the last two words sound very, very German. Obviously it's not going to be one part English and the other German so this is quite a mystery, especially as that one sample you played also has what sounds like an English speaking man. Very odd.

I’m American and in the US Army. While I can’t really recognize any of the orders given, it’s very clearly a North American accent giving them. “Reform line”, and “From the center” really aren’t things the US military does in drill and ceremony. Normally in order to “reform line” (assuming this command has the purpose I think it does) if a squad needs to “unfuck itself” (as my Drill Sergeant told me so lovingly 6 years ago), the command given is usually quickmarch. From there, the squad should be able to fix things up and get in a more straight line. “From the center” could exist as a form of getting a platoon inside a building, like for lunch or something. Extremely rare outside of training. Using this command, a drill sergeant can get a platoon to line up for chow one squad at a time. It’s just a really efficient way of getting your trainees into a building for whatever it is you need them to do. (Or at least, it looks efficient). My guess is Canadian, based on the fact I’ve never heard of “reform line” before. However, it’s not unthinkable that a drill sergeant could improvise commands for training purposes. So stuff like “reform line” could end up as a thing. However, what kills this for me, is the sound of them marching. It sounds almost like they are wearing taps. The US military rarely ever does this. Taps make that distinct click sound in D&C, that sounds almost like a stomp when you get a ton of guys doing it in unison. It sounds cool, but the US military seems to prefer quiet steps, on the grounds that it seems less boastful and more professional.

It sounds like a recording of a drill competition. The reason that is important is because theres unique command to JUST the competition. So they do use by the center quick march, is when they're walking forward using the center man as the guy to set the pace so they dont get all fucked. I use to be in the army cadets and went to drill competitions and joined the army later.

It seems much more like "B Sqn, quick march" as Drill Sergeants with North American accents tend to prolong different sounds in their "Drill Voice" to British "Drill Voices". Plus it makes sense as usually you would shout the formation you are giving the command to and then issue the command. "Reform Line" sounds like a command, which wouldn't be followed by another command. Great video though, I always assumed it was gibberish before you pointed it out :D

Hey no strings, Just wanted to say that I love your videos man. Amazing content, Ahoy tier stuff. Your channel is insanely underrated and I hope your channel blows up one day or another. Thanks for your wonderful videos and Keep up the great work man. (Also, why not make a discord server? Instead of relying on YT comments and such, So we can speak to you directly.)

Thank you so much, the Ahoy comparison seriously means a lot! I've considered making a Discord server since people have asked before, but I've no idea what I would do with it? I'm not really familiar with how a YT-specific Discord is normally handled. I'm just not that great at talking, I'm an introvert with probable aspergers, you'll notice I tend to hide behind scripts in the videos! I'll have a look into how other channels handle Discord servers and see about starting one, but in the meantime I make sure to read every comment that gets posted if people want to reach me

@@NoStringsPrd Well, KZitem-Specific servers are usually pretty off topic and sometimes give the creator an idea of what his/her next video is gonna be about. So it's good for suggestions, discussion and such. You can also add game nights and music channels etc. Think of it as an online bar pretty much. If you're new to making servers, you can always let your friends or other people do the work for you. Or make the server itself and let a moderator do the rest (I'm a mod on alot of big servers, If you want any help.)

in German The phrase "die Waffen legt an! " is a common command for a formal execution in public places as a deterrent. For a " normal " execution, a phrase like" Anlegen , Zielen , Feuer "would be enough.

You arn't wrong, 'CENTER FACE!' Means face the front, 'REFORM LINE!' Means break off and remake the line, or 'dress off'. when it is slowed down, 'quick march' is as you say marching, quickly, but slow march is only used in more ceremonial purposes, I spent 7 hours doung it in one day in cadets (I spent almost 2 years in there, let me say, don't join unless you put yourself up for everything, when you are just going normaly, they trat you like crap), but I use that because it is a part of the Royal Navy, but I won't go into the small things, but I do know that a squad is 4-12, a platoon is 20-60, a battalion is 200-600.

"Die Waffen" was never used in German gun commands. It was - and is - always "Gewehr" (singular) with the second "e" stretched out as announcement, followed, for example, by "ab" (take rifle from shoulder and set it beside your right foot), or "über" (reverse procedure). as execution command. But it doesn´t make any sense to give this German order to a German marching unit (according to the sound). Sounds to me that some American has again murdered the German language ("arms" literally translates to "Waffen"). They seem to never ask someone who knows the proper wording. "Ach Himmel, Schweinhund..."

The note for the original stock audio says it's from a German WWII drill. Drill instructors sound like gibberish no matter what language they shout. What I hear is "Die Staffel, rechts um!" for the sample in the song, and then, "Augen gerade-AUS!" and then "Front wie ich stehe (gibberish) ACHT SHRITT!"

@guntguardian3771

It's probably B Sqn quick march. This is because with drill there is usually to parts to a command, a preparatory command and a command you execute. For instance, calling a company to attention would be "A Company! A Company attention!". The first A Company alerts them that they are about to receive a command, the second is that word of command. It is usually part of the Candance and practiced beforehand so people are aware as to what is about to happen. Another example would be "A Company will turn to the left, LEFT TURN!". You take not of the first part, not the second. In relation to the audio, it appears they are alerting the formed unit which is likely "B Sqn" and then telling them to quick march, I.E to move off. So they are alerted then told what they are to do. It wouldn't make sense to reform line, and do so in quick march.

I hear "D Squadron, Raise, Arms" which would be a command in parade formation drills with rifles. Of course, it's hard to tell for certain. Between the distortion, other noises, and the fact that most drill instructors sound like they're shouting jibberish to all but those used to their commands, he could be yelling just about anything.

Retired Canadian Army Sergeant. Sounds to me like he is calling out: "D squadron, quick march". A very common command, for an armoured formation. Notice how it sounds like "quake har". "Quick" is a precautionary word, meant to communicate to the formation, what you expect them to do and prime them for execution. This must be spoken very clearly. "March" is an executive, word meaning "what I primed you for, do it NOW". The executive must be as short as possible, instantaneous preferably, in order to get the formation moving in unison. For this reason we are taught to use "arch" instead of "march". Some even call it out as "quick har" or "quake har" which is much easier to blend.

At this point it might be just my retardation or imagination, more like a "fun" fact, but as I was listening to this song few years ago I've never associated these "famous" and mysterious phrase with anything in german or english, but it rather sounded like somehow deformed polish phrase "bitwa trwa" which would literally mean "the battle is going on" later in the song, and now when i realize it all does not make sense at all, but resemblance of battle when we talk about Red Alert is at least somehow reasonable. I still feel a little cringy about my interpretation.

Dude i am german and when i was listening to english songs in my youth the "english" i did sing along witg those songs was so cringy i can only hope nobody heard me. So i know how that feels. Also i think the brain simply tries to turn something which it cant understand into something that makes sense to it. so in the end might argue that its not cringy but just human nature. When it comes to the discussion of the soundsample however i think above user "Arxinvicta" is spot on with his interpretation. It is a german military phrase which even in the context of them marching makes sense. At least the first one.
