This was topic du jour in the Protestant world about 7 years ago … and in last week’s jewelry video - a regular contributor to posts referred to ‘trinitarian child molesters’ - as if Oneness Pentecostals were somehow immune from the ugliness of humanity. My wife and I both were shaking our heads because we know of several UPCIer folks with horrific stories of all kinds of abuse from UPCI families and ministers. I believe Jackie posted above me here about this ugliness ought not happen in the local church … but all believers struggle with their passions and their brokenness… and contextual speaking I am not using passions in the modernity usage in the Western Church. For the 25 years I journeyed with this organization - seeking out mental health professional for counseling was looked down upon in every District and local church I was connected to… so to hear the good Dr Bernard mentioning counseling makes me smile. Undoubtably, sexual abuse gravely affects a person’s life … and telling folks to ‘speak in tongues’ as the sole solution is an absolute travesty…. And when it occurs after one has (using UPCI vernacular here) been filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues where they were assaulted - so many questions of why did God permit this to happen to them…. Without a doubt, God’s will is to bring wholeness to everyone who calls upon Him. But. That wholeness is worked out over time, not in a singular / solitary sweet hour of prayer. (Of course I had broaden the discussion to include assault here.) Humanity is messy. But criminal behavior is a whole different level of ugliness that is rightly referred to authorities. If you were harmed by someone - and you are struggling with it - speaking to a qualified therapist is super helpful. Don’t allow folks in your local church community keep you from seeking help. The statistics of 1 in 3 men is probably an accurate assertion - because most men do not report being assaulted.

sexual abuse happens across all religions and churches, we cannot judge I think, I was married to a person for 23 years who was sexually abused by her father, they go through hell and hate nearly everything around them, she would never admit something was wrong when I questioned her about why she hates her father so much, and always found fault with her mother,,[ now in hindsight I remember her telling me she begged her mother not to go back to her father when her mother left her father--so that's why she treated her mother like that, her mother I am sure knew her husband was molesting her=== I surmised all 23 years (got divorced in 2005){ as I could no longer hold it out with her} he had molested her and her sister and brother, then she waits until 2018 and tells my daughter about it, this is your message ===Undoubtedly, sexual abuse gravely affects a person’s life … and telling folks to ‘speak in tongues’ as the sole solution is an absolute travesty…. (Of course I had broaden the discussion to include assault here.) to answer part of your message -- my ex went forward so many times when an altar call was done I can't count--it helped nothing, she would never close her eyes during a prayer, and always stood and looked around, so yes to be honest people who are molested by a direct family members I will say never comes to peace, I could still write so much more experiences about her, and most of them start accusing the husbands also of molestation,,

@@eisbeinGermany- yes, indeed. Sexual abuse happens in every segment of society. And those who were abused and assaulted - often relive their experiences everyday. Sometimes the abuse spans generations - hopefully your exwife has connected with a qualified therapist and is working through things. Jesus Christ came to safe us from sin and death… not guilt and shame. Sometimes Western theology misses the mark in understanding that some sin is voluntary… whereas some is involuntary. Survivors of sexual abuse and assault are tormented in ways that those who haven’t experienced those type of things - could never fully understand. My therapist told me ‘Anger is often a secondary emotion’…. What you shared sounds very normal behavior of a survivor…. And sometimes that anger manifests itself if in untoward and shocking behavior… fortunately, God isn’t shocked when folks act out from their brokenness…. Recovery from harm happens little by little…. And there are often set backs. The Church carries those too wounded to walk… it is my prayer that your former wife finds peace…. And for you too - Anthony. I am sure seeing someone you love hurting and hurting others because of their pain - is wounding in and of itself. This is why I encourage folks to find a qualified therapist. As an Orthodox Christian, we have the mystery of Confession where my priest and I work out things towards wholeness. And I keep him apprised of my progress in therapy because the goal of the Christian walk is to become fully human. It takes time and effort. Be encouraged.

@@realmccoy124 I know of many whom were assaulted by their very secular therapist, teachers, coworkers and employers, and yes practically every form of religion, all under the guise of complete trust. I never have formed a sweeping judgement over all those types of authorities. However, I do judge mankind as having the capability of being completely evil. History proves me out.

Innocent until proven guilty, by the church, is not an angle, I remember having considered. Another principle from scripture applied to our country’s legal system.
