Love your work, guys. Two comments for Sarah from the antipodes. (1) You have such a classically delightful british accent. (2) I'm over 50 (I laugh when you & Rick mock Andy for being old), and I still watch my kids play sport and think "Oh I miss that". Kids are awesome but exhausting; dive into parenthood while you're still fit & young. Also, the younger you are when you have kids, the more likely you'll still be able to run faster than them when they're teenagers!

This year (2024) I have so far used 1690 Euro on racing fee's. Its gone completely bonkers since Covid, almost doubled, and I get the feeling that especially bigger city-races has gone totally gready. More entries, higher entry-fee, same service and mostly done by volunteers. In 2025 I'm cutting all the expencive races, going for some cheaper local ones and then saving for hollydays with my familly.

I feel that when you're asked about discrepancies between chip time and Strava/watch time, the focus of the answer should be more on the fact that GPS is inaccurate. Even on straight roads, in ideal conditions, it can be out by a few percent. Turns and tall buildings make this even worse. If you ever zoom in on sections of your run, it can be so far off. So whilst weaving may add some distance, the majority is going to be the GPS. The conclusion is the same, that chip time should be used for records, but blaming weaving makes you think that you've actually ran the longer distance, when in reality, you probably haven't.

Time is a human construct so you can pick any arbitrary time reference to reach a set distance (also invented by men, not the distance but measures in general) and it will still be weird. I do love to have uneven number after a run. Doing a 5,97km run in 31:47 : AWESOME... (edit: Time isnt a human construct per say, because of the 24 hours frame each days. But the way to split it by hours, minutes, seconds, etc is.) [Second Edit : I did my first marathon last year, didn't achieve the 4hours mark. still pissed]

I resolutely don't understand the sock-shoe-sock-shoe debate. I get ready for my run, I assume like any semi-normal person, in my bedroom, where my clothes are. I then, descend the stairs to nigh the door, where my shoes are, and don them. I am certain there is no parallel universe whereby my alternate thinks it's most sensible to delay the donning of the socks such that it must be done in that order because there is no reasoning that may support it. I can only assume that people that do, must have a particularly special clothing/shoe storage situation, because otherwise, I can only speak to a conscious decision that is questionable at best.
