Hey all, just a little post-video addendum here. Frankly this video was not about money so I didn't want to seem like I'm "begging" by including too much of this in there. But my channel committing to being a variety channel when I could just make more money by pumping out Ultrakill content, is a tough situation for me to put myself in, in terms of the financial sustainability of content creation. Currently I rely on KZitem ad revenue primarily, and especially the ad revenue from Ultrakill videos is really the only way I'm able to support myself. But when the only way I'm hitting above ~20k views generally is to make Ultrakill content the fact of the matter is I'm either paying an editor, or putting in tons of hours of editing myself for videos that sometimes get like ~2k views and earn me like a few bucks at most. This is not a great situation to be reliant on ad revenue in, so if you enjoy and want to support my variety content I want to at least give you an idea of where you can best accomplish that: *1. Patreon:* Patreon is the best place to support me because I get the best cut of the revenue there and can directly provide you a ton of perks in return. The $5 tier there is quite literally the best value you can get out of anywhere you can support me, but even the $2 tier has a generous amount of perks and I get a large cut of the revenue. *2. Twitch:* If you have Amazon Prime, with literally one click you can give me free money. Even if you can't watch the streams I premiere videos a day early for Twitch subs so if you link your Twitch to Discord you will get the same perks as $2 Patrons in my Discord server. You can also pay for subs directly on Twitch but 50% of each sub goes to Bezos... I appreciate paid subs of course but I never ask for/expect them. *3. Watching on KZitem:* This is free and still a great way to support me. I'd never ask you to watch videos you aren't interested in, but if you really want to see me continue to make variety content then supporting said variety content with a view, or even if you aren't interested in it yourself, sharing it with someone you think might be, will go a long way to ensuring I can continue to make that type of content on KZitem. That's all I really have to say on that. The next video will be coming fairly soon and will be a much more positive and lighthearted one. Thanks for your support, whatever that may look like and I'm looking forward to making the best variety content I can for you all!

i say, make whatever you want! youtube is a sandbox. if you dont wanna be the "ultrakill guy" or the "rainbow 6 siege guy" thats fine. I've felt the same way before with my stupid shitpost getting 15x more views then the content i want to make. We all understand. Hopefully things go well. (they usually do in these kinds of situations.)

To speak on this a little bit: I do believe at least internally that my content is good enough and entertaining enough to carry itself and not need one "game" to make it worth watching, if I didn't believe that I would've quit long ago. KZitem may feel differently on that subject but that is what it is, I simply don't want to pigeonhole my content in the way KZitem seems to be encouraging me to. The problem though is, my analytics are all sorts of fucked and its very hard for me to parse what is good variety content and what isn't because the only feedback I'm getting from KZitem is "Ultrakill good, other stuff bad". So I kind of feel like I'm throwing darts at a board trying to make successful variety content. I'm gonna keep at it of course, but it is unfortunately not a situation where it feels like good content ultimately prevails, it feels much more random and circumstantial than that.

The wonderful comments that everyone here has said so far mirrors my thoughts towards you and the channel exactly. I don’t have anything profound to say, but I want to at the very least reaffirm you with the fact that even if you yourself are still unsure of where you want to go moving forward, I’ll be watching every step of the way with everyone else here. I know a much smaller part of the internet go by this kind of mindset, but I genuinely watch KZitem content for the person, not just the topic, editing style, or even the initial hook that introduced me to the creator. In that regard, you’re one of my favourites, and I really do hope more people find about you through this way.

I doubt ur gonna read this but anyway... a lot of ppl are gonna know u as the ultrakill guy, that's just the way yt works, that's the way the algorithm works. And it sucks! But the ppl that stick around are ur true fans. You need to make videos that you enjoy. And if you do that your true fans will follow. Don't think of yt as something you HAVE to do, think of it as a way of expressing urself. Just my opinion lmao

I definitely had something like this with my channel, so much so to the point that I pretty much quitted content creation due to me not feeling inspired to make content or the content that I made was just not good even for my standards. I am excited to see videos from you regardless of whether or not it involves the funny robot game and that was primarily why I watch your vods now due to the variety of content I can go through.

I don't know if this is something you'll want to hear, but I did stick around because of your Ultrakill content. It's however not how I found your channel. That game was White Hell. Your video was the only one with a 'substantial' amount of views which didn't share the vid with other games (Civvie11 and IcarusLives have both briefly covered it tho). Seeing that you had some Dusk and Ultrakill video's up as well made me stick around in that moment, but the more I watched, the more I just like YOU. And I do feel you about the pressure some simple numbers can give. For a bunch of buddies, I used to make "re-arrangements" of DOOM Eternal tracks, using audio ripped from the files. When one of them suggested a mashup, I went ahead and executed that idea. Suddenly, TENS of thousands of views. A year later, HUNDREDS of thousands. Nothing since measures up to that one video, even with a bigger audience. Not even other mashups, even though they were fun to make for a while. Due to my study eating up time (and DOOM Eternal becoming less immediately relevant), I eventually just...stopped, especially after my mashup EP flopping. I'm not exactly sad about that, but chasing numbers does not make one happy in my experience. So, with all that being said. I'll keep a eye on this channel, be it for Ultrakill, other shooters or something completely different. The Dumpster Man is entertaining and holds great perspectives, and I'll be revisiting this channel for him alone. And if he covers games I'm interested in or have kept my eye on for a while, that'd be cool too.

No this is great, I'm always happy to hear how people found my content *even* if it's Ultrakill, as long as it isn't people pretending like I have no value beyond just being a guy who plays Ultrakill (the last time I went for a few months without making an Ultrakill video someone said "welcome back" when I finally made one again lol). On one hand it's easy to be resentful of people like that, on the other hand, this is ultimately KZitem's fault for promoting really same-y content creation and disincentivizing variety, that type of person may not even get recommended my non-Ultrakill videos at all. At the end of the day, I'm not wired to just make one type of content, so nothing is gonna change, the channel will always be some measure of variety.

Man why you gotta make such a beautiful video dawg I swear I almost cried when you were talking about the things you wanna do like bruh 😭😭😭. Besides that it's very nice to see that you're more comfortable with how the channel is going, I mainly watch your ultrakill videos (because ultrakill speedrunner can't get enough of it) but I love the random game reviews and videos like this, so I hope you keep making the great content!

As someone who found your channel through specifically your minos prime video (the one where you fought him for the first time), I come to this channel for you. You said it best, there's only one Dumpster Man out there and only one place where you can see what Dumpster Man is up to. I don't get the chance to watch yt videos very often and when I do it's usually really long video essays over-analyzing and over-explaining stuff, but your content is very relaxing and very entertaining, I just end up not getting the chance to watch all of it. Personally I would love that mississippi river video, I immediately think of the travel videos that Noah-Caldwell Gervais has done finding real life equivalents of the fallout landscapes, sure it's cool to see fallout stuff irl but the most entertaining parts of those videos are the places he visits. I think a video of you going on that road trip would be something I would watch the hell out of if you made stops along the way to check out nearby towns or whatever stuff is on the road. Travelogues are very entertaining content when the author has things to say about the places they've visited and I think you'd be able to provide good commentary on it all. At the end of the day, while I'd imagine there's a balance to strike with youtube being your primary source of income, at the end of the day the most important thing if I were in your shoes to me would be Fun. If you have a great time making a video, it'll show in the quality. If you have a miserable experience making a video, it won't be as entertaining to watch. Sure, most people will come here for ultrakill and nothing else, you'd think stuff like fromsoft games or other retro fps's would also interest them but i guess not, DMC could be worth a try if you've never played one of em, I personally had a blast with dmc5 and would wholeheartedly recommend it, even if you don't do it for content i'd recommend trying it out cause its honestly just a really fun game, and if you did do it for content, I know I'd watch it when I had the chance. TL;DR, The biggest selling point of your channel is you, I would watch the hell outta that mississippi river video, and prioritize fun as much as your bills will allow you to because videos you have fun making end up being better videos, also if you haven't played a dmc game try dmc5. I wish you nothing but the best with the channel and I look forward to future content you end up making, I hope this video has felt freeing for you :3

I am still always going to make souls videos even if they don't perform well because I just enjoy the games and streaming/playing them too much to stop... and especially now with the help of an editor, a lot more videos that are more 'stream highlight'-like are being worked on since it's good work for me to hand off to the editor. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!

variety is often called the spice of life for a reason, just do whatever the hell you want when you want and have fun doing it, don't make the mistake of sticking to one thing in particular, its going to limit you in the long run, Ive heard stories of channels that made bigger followings in one direction and wanted to switch out to a variety of different things they are interested in but end up don't because of their audience preferring one type of content they became popular on. and to be honest it is hard branching out into variety and it really doesn't help with how youtube incentivizes single topic type content more than anything rather than a variety, rather its video essays, commentary/podcast esc discussions or simple reactions. just do what you want in the end, because in the end, the only reason people do content for others is because they want to. just enjoy what your doing (btw that Mississippi river idea would be fun as some large several hour plus video). have fun with it. that's all ill say

your ultrakill videos are guaranteed to preform better, but the charm of those videos has little to do with ultrakill itself. What makes those videos entertaining, at least to me, is that you're in them. I'm most definitely a sucker for ultrakill, it's in my pfp after all, but it feels weird to see you be the "ultrakill guy." I don't come here for that, I come here for dumpster man. Keep on being you, trash also that vlog video sounds cool i'd watch that

Despite how tumultuous my relationship was with Siege and the fact that I've intentionally stopped playing, I can 100% relate to that game getting you through the pandemic. Having friends on a Discord call,, losing a few hundred hours to it over the span of a year, that shit really got me through some of the hard parts of 2020. I still look back at old clips my friends and I recorded and remember that stressful ass game pretty fondly (if I don't think about how toxic the strangers in voice chat could be lol)

In hindsight I've realized what mattered was that it was a vehicle for me and my friends to just have fun doing something together, and that could've really been any game, but Siege will always have a soft spot with me for being *that game* as well as the game that got me back into making videos. The community is ass though fr

What is this channel? Well, it's called Dumpster Man, the owner is a guy named Nick, he is a chill guy, he plays games, records and edits them, and he also does entertaining lives on twitch. I am a simple man, and sometimes that's all i will ever need from a channel to keep me around. The games doesn't really matter, i am not picky, if the content creator chose to play that game it means that i might be good, so it's worth to to give it a shot, that's how i got to buy Ultrakill and Blasphemous (2 of my most played game on steam atm), it's a great way to find new cool games to try. And i am thankfull for that.

I already do this to some extent having a VODs and Clips channel but I don't think splitting up by game or genre is a good idea and a completely new channel but with my same content (maybe minus Ultrakill) would struggle getting off the ground I think. It's more about splitting it up by the 'vibe' of the content I guess.
