I have a dataset stored in a PostgreSQL database and have successfully created a Power BI dashboard. However, I am encountering challenges while setting up the gateway in the Power BI service. The issue arises due to an additional layer of security in the form of a VPN that we use to access the database. How can I establish a connection between Power BI service and the PostgreSQL database considering the presence of VPN security?

How to create N no of vnet gateway on gateway cluster that I need to perform the load balancer ?

To create multiple VNet gateways on a gateway cluster for load balancing in Power BI, install the On-premises Data Gateway on different servers, then join each to an existing gateway cluster. Power BI will handle load balancing automatically across the cluster.

Is OneLake logically joinable via VNET Data Gateways with on-premise SQL Server 2022 - like a virtualization layer, spanning between public cloud and on-premise, whereas OneLake acts as controller / master? -Another way could be via Azure Arc or a Self Hosted Integration Runtime (SHIR), but I would prefer the "abstracted-away"-solution. Thanks in advance!

Do I have to use on prem or VNet gateway if I want to access a sql server running in Azure Virtual Machine? (Does cloud work?)

Both will work… however, I’ll suggest go with On-Prem

Great video, but the video doesn't explain when you need a VNET over the standard gateway. The workflow diagram shows all the Infrastructure is within Microsoft then why would you need a VNET, since all the data should be secured. Well, the answer is you are accessing data from VNET and not a SAAS service; Correct me if I am wrong.

A VNet (Virtual Network) is a fundamental building block for Azure networking, which enables secure communication between Azure resources. When you need a VNet over the standard gateway, it usually means you need to connect to resources that are not on the public internet or that you want to secure traffic between the resources. Here are some situations where you might need a VNet over the standard gateway: You want to connect to on-premises resources securely: If you have resources hosted on-premises and you want to connect them securely to Azure resources, you can use a VNet with a site-to-site VPN connection to establish a secure connection between the two networks. You need to meet compliance requirements: If your organization needs to meet specific regulatory or compliance requirements, you may need to use a VNet with a private endpoint or private link to securely access and manage resources. You want to control access to resources: If you want to control access to resources and ensure that only authorized users can access them, you can use a VNet with a network security group (NSG) to filter network traffic and block unauthorized access. You need to isolate resources: If you have sensitive data or critical applications that require isolation from other resources, you can use a VNet with Azure Private Link to create a private endpoint for a specific resource and keep it isolated from the public internet.

Hello, If I want to connect PowerBI Service to Azure SQL should I use a Gateway or Virtual Network Gateway?

You can use either of them. Both will work fine. If you don't want to pay money, go for Power BI Standard Gateway

Hi, thank you for your feedback. After creating the connection, it works the same way as on on-premise or personal gateway. You may want to watch this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xIl60YKQhGSlnm0si=iaeg7XfvOZlJwy9e

You can check Microsoft Documentation whether you can connect or not. Also, to configure and confirm, please use Power BI Service Portal.

You need to add data sources like we usually do in Power BI Data Gateways.

Hi, Nice video, thank you. What is the best options to enable cross-tenant power bi data refresh as VNet data gateway will not work in that scenario? VNet data gateway currently only works if the Azure data source and PowerBi are on the same tenant unfortunately.

As far as I can think, you cannot do this. You can only refresh the dataset from your own tenant. User can only read the data from external tenant. Rest, I have asked this question to other Microsoft Guys and will update you if can get any updates. By the way, thanks for this interesting question. if get any updates meanwhile, please do share.

@@BIConsultingPro We need to schedule data refresh in PowerBi from one organization's Azure SQL DB to one of thier clients Power Bi (B2B scenario). Our client (one with sql DB does not have PowerBi and do not want to buy Power Bi lisence). In such scenario, what is the best option? Thanks for your reply.
