I did a bunch of interviews when I was close to graduating college and one recruiter asked me this very question. I don't remember what I told him my strengths were, but for weakness I told him " I was not very good at delegating" . Afterwards, he told me that was the best answer he had ever heard for a weakness. Shows you are a hard worker and is something that cannot be overcome as you advance in the fire service or whatever career you choose to follow.

I am a personal trainer. Do you think a good strength for me would be “As a personal trainer I have developed an ability to connect, teach, and relay Information to different types of people with different backgrounds. For example I have trained clients from 13 to 65 men and women and they all absorb information differently so I have had to find all many of ways to connect with each person individually.”

Great series thanks I used these to prepare for my cadet firefighter interview and they did ask all these questions but something they did is after he told me how I did and gave me tips for the future when being in interviews and how you can turn your weakness into a positive, I think more departments should do similar things.

When you say keep you weakness honest but generic, my main weakness is not expressing how I feel, because I push them down and that helps me feel others pain when they talk to me about it. Is that a weakness I should say it in my interview? But, my strength is, I am great with technology. I know almost anything on technology.

Just curious I didn’t know which video to post this on, do you feel like it would be generally excepted or not excepted to bring a notepad and pen or pencil into the interview to take notes or the reference notes you thought of earlier

Great question, generally you're probably not going to need it, but if you would feel more comfortable having something by all means. The only exception would be if they explicitly tell you not to bring anything with you.

Im a career firefighter in usa. Most departments now require minimum to be a emergency medical tech and more and more require you to be a paramedic. Both are requirements most of the time to even apply for the job.

Is a masters in sociology really not applicable in your fire interview, or could it be well connected? With the number of "social calls" that some departments go on it seems that the understanding of stratification and inequality you get form a sociology degree (both qualitative and quantitative) is arguably invaluable. Am I way off the mark here? I'm currently applying to several departments and genuinely appreciate your helpful content.
