Treat mixer drivers with respect and the job goes smoothly. Try to boss them around and disrespect them and they can overload wheel barrows or charge standby if it takes longer than 5 minutes a yard to unload. Standby is 1 dollar a minute.

@@Jordcuriousour company has us do log books too. First thing in the morning it’s for pre-trip truck inspection and then throughout the day you log mileage after each load and fuel needed throughout the day. I started out two years ago in a Terex front discharge mixer and recently started driving a rear discharge truck that were bought as loaners for when our front dumps are down for maintenance. I like driving the rear dumps better cos the cab is more comfortable but our customers prefer the front dump.

The log book is mostly for mileage and hours but we I have to log every delivery address, company, leave and return times. And if we ever do over 12 hours, you have to do a little diagram that shows your drive time vs non driving hours etc

@@PookieLoc It's hard because every contractor has a different way of doing things and has different hand signals and It's hard to see the signals cuz they're really far back there and there hands just always seem to be obstructed by something so you miss there signals. some just have no idea what the hand signals are so you're just stuck guessing what they want or are trying to say. also it's a pain in the ass having to back into everything. But I guess the same goes to you having to back out of what you just nosed into. Also do you have to do curb machines in reverse?

Do you have to wash the truck every load? What if one site doesn’t take all of your concrete or they need more concrete? Whats the average load number a day for a driver ?
@Jordcurious
4 ай бұрын
The truck is washed after every load. If a site doesn’t take all of the concrete, I take it back to our yard where it is turned into a concrete block or used as backfill. If they need more, they order more and wait for it. I have had days where I do one load or no loads. My biggest day was 9 loads

You get more physical activity as a mixer driver, which I like. It’s not a crazy amount of physical work but it’s nice to do something other than just sit in the driver seat all day. So I would say go for it if you don’t mind getting dirty!
@gatorjohnny

@@Jordcurious lol one of the reasons I want to switch. I’ve heard two things about the schedule. One is that your hours are all over the place. The other is that you have a relatively set schedule with the occasional early or late job, which is closer to a dump truck schedule. What says you?

Same here, the company I currently work for; we do stock (sand & gravel) for the concrete plant I’m planning on working for soon. Concrete plant operator is offering me to come work for them I have a interview with the recruiter next week if they pay me what the plant operator says I’ll do the switch. Doing stock gets boring for doing the same every day all year, no physical activity in dump truck sucks.
