Just had mine a couple of days. The doctor and nurses were amazing and I chose to be knocked out so it was like aesthesia in and they said you feel tired and the next thing I know I hear my heart beat in the monitor and the nurse slowly waking me up. It was all a blur and a great power nap lol My GI got me to use something called pico lax and like you 2 sachets at 150 ml each which is nothing and then drink 2 to 3 litres of water, gatorade, just not red, purple or blue, or apple juice gradually over the next 4 hours. It was explained it is not a race so don't guzzle it all done at once or you risk throwing it up. Because this process can easily dehydrate you I found orange gatorade was great. The pico lax was amazing because I honestly felt I was drinking orange tang. It took about an hour or less to work and it really cleaned me out. Taking the one the next morning was just as easy because the taste was so yummy and amazing and again about an hour later it flushed me out, but I was clean at that point so it was water in water out. Anyone that is afraid honestly don't be and remember you are doing this for your own health. I hope this helps anyone who reads this :)

I am now 71 years old and bladder incontinent. I also use a cane. I use adult underwear and quilted bed pads regularly. I'm getting ready for another colonoscopy in about a month. My last one was about 4 years ago. At that time, I knew I would not be able to make it to the bathroom quickly with my bladder issues. So, I had my doctor order a bedside commode. Medicaid/Medicare insurance paid for it. It made the prep evacuation SO much easier and saved me from A LOT of extra mess! I do suggest the Gatorade bottles be refrigerated for a couple of days prior to mixing instead of relying on putting the pitcher in after combining ingredients. Everything, including juices, Ensure, etc, could all be readied prior to the start of ingestion time. (Less thinking involved when your energy is lower!) Prayers and blessings to all!!! Be well, stay well!!! 💝💕👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Love seeing your updates. I’m 36 and had an upper and lower scope done on the same day. Doc found a very small polyp that he said had a 3.6% chance of being cancerous. The worst part of it is the bowel prep. The procedures themselves are a cake walk. 2 weeks after the procedures I get a call saying I tested positive for h pylori, which is a bacteria infection in the stomach that cause symptoms similar to colon cancer. Two weeks of antibiotics and I’m back to feeling like my normal self. My bowel prep was different from yours. I had 2 bottles of magnesium citrate mixed with 16 oz of water. Tasted like very salty cherry cough syrup. Same results nonetheless.

I found after experience with a few colonoscopies, that the day before the procedure, I don't eat anything and only drink water, is the best way. 1 hour after beginning to drink the laxitive, everything what was left in my bowel from what I ate 2 days before, comes out in one time, and that is not much. After that it is only watery a few times and I can go to sleep, without any disturbans. The next morning the second drink, and water just also comes out in one time. So , for me now it is not difficult to prep before an colonoscopy anymore.

I did put a towel down on the bed just in case .. but I lucked out and actually got to sleep for a few hours 🤣.Procedure itself was completely painless and I am glad I went through it.

They don't seem to care about me as a person with fear and real mental conditions. I'm better off not having it done than having a mental breakdown .
@SurvivorJelena
Жыл бұрын
I think that’s common. I didn’t have a separate consultation appointment before any of my colonoscopies, between the 2 different offices I’ve gone to for them. My “consult” was with my regular doctor that referred me for my first one. Then before the procedure the doctor comes in and talks to you about any symptoms you’ve been experiencing, etc. Having a mental breakdown isn’t good, but neither is ignoring cancer.

26:54 The lidocaine is not for operative or post operative pain. It is to numb the vein to counter the burning sensation of the propofol. Anesthesiologists even have a acronym for this: POPI….Pain On Propofol Injection. Pain at the site of venous access is a well known side effect of IV propofol, and the lidocaine push prior to propofol (sometimes with a tourniquet to allow the lidocaine time to work) seems to be the most widely accepted practice to reduce incidences of POPI.

It takes a while for me to put my leg on, and then get my other leg on. I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it to the bathroom and go without soiling myself. Does anyone else have that problem? So sorry for the long text!

Thanks so much for posting about your experience with getting a colonoscopy. I have mine scheduled for tomorrow and am going through prep myself as we speak. I've never had one done before and it's been really challenging especially since my stomach issues flared up RIGHT before I started prep. The whole thing has been stressful since I'm in my twenties and we don't know what's going on yet but after this endoscopy and colonoscopy I'll be one step closer to getting things figured out. Watching your video put my mind at ease with the prep part and I really appreciate you for that! Thank you again!

I hope your colonoscopy went ok and it helped the doctors figure out what’s causing you troubles 🤞🏼💙

It went as planned and good news is it's nothing life threatening or an infection! I'll be talking to my doctor soon to figure out a game plan for what they did find :)

No. Plenty of meats directly cause cancer.

Actually eating cheese can be very constipating and mucus forming which is why I may go from vegetarian to vegan.

I've just been sentenced to the C word as punishment for getting too old. Absolutely terrified and the idea of not eating anything for 3 days sounds like hell. That doesn't include the horrors the clean out. Not sure I can survive this. So so scared.

Thank you for being so transparent. This will be my first colonoscopy and already I just want it to be over. Got a bunch of stuff to read, but it helps to get the insight from someone who has gone through the experience. You have put me at ease, to just follow instructions to the letter.

I didn't have that experience, im doing mine tomorrow at 10am, so I'm staying up watching Netflix, I've gone to bathroom but it's not as bad, I guess it's because I drink Energybolizer tea twice a month, so my stomach is used to the cleaning.

Went back to 1st doctor twice! Doctor said you may see a little blood the toilet was completely covered at the top of the toilet water. I took a pic of the toilet bolw. Went back to doc told me again & told me that I might see a little blood! I showed him the pic! Then went to a 3rd doctor at a different hospitals . Well I had a barium enema treatment in 2009 or so. Nothing found but what a mess. So now I'm 71 and just did three fecal occult tests that were positive so I guess I'll have to schedule one of these. We've been in contact. I had prostate cancer that I caught i time and treated with radiation and hormone treatment. No history of colon cancer or any other cancers in the family. I'm in good shape although could lose weight as I'm an actor and it shows so to speak. I'll be talking with Gastro Monday. The prep sure doesn't look fun. Thanks for this!

There are other options for your prep, and I just did a different one in January that I did another video on here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0Gp5y4yZsIyfZnosi=WSPxS3vHfEvWcv6u Good luck!

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I may need a scope soon, as well. Can you explain more what propofol felt like? Like, did you feel it going into your IV? And did you even get drowsy or was it like you were wide awake one second and then waking up the very next second?
@SurvivorJelena

I didn’t feel either drug going into my IV. Within probably 10 seconds my eyelids got heavy and I closed them, then I was out. It was like taking a nap...I didn’t feel like I had only been out for a second, I knew I had been out for a bit.

@@SurvivorJelena @xcalabur18 I also wondered about propofol. I've had 2 colonoscopies. The first time I didn't feel the propofol. The second time I felt a warm sensation (it was not painful or uncomfortable--just a sensation). Just about as soon as I felt the warm sensation I started waking up because the colonoscopy was over! You go to sleep quickly. No reason to be concerned.

The last time I did a colonoscopy I did practically the same prep, except I mix the Miralax with a 2 liter bottle of ice tea, (I hate Gatorade). I was instructed to 1 Ducolax and finish Miralax by 6-7 that night. All was well for the colonoscopy. I have frequent constipation, and 1 Ducolx usually has me reaching for the adult diapers. Ugh!! I not due for my next colonoscopy until 12/25 and I’m already dreading it.

I want to be awake,aware. We have come to an Agreement- conscious sedation- if I behave, no fish worms wiggles-I get to watch the monitor- otherwise I'm off to LALA- land, which is where SHE would prefer her patients to be so SHE can take her time investigating. But I AM red- headed and Stubborn and Understand both viewpoints and I WANNA WATCH!

Good for you! That’s nice you’ve got a doctor that has agreed to try. She’ll take plenty of pictures so if you do have to be put fully asleep there will be a little bit of evidence of what she saw. I’m undecided as to whether or not I would ever want to be awake for one. 😅
