When employment opportunities in Chicago’s manufacturing industry dried up, Robert Lyles turned to the justice system.
Now retired, Lyles told The Marshall Project about his time as a correctional officer and as assistant director of the Cook County Jail. In this installment of We Are Witnesses: Chicago, Lyles talks about how he adapted to working in a violent environment and the tools he uses to cope with work-related stress.
