this was so encouraging as other videos on youtube can be discouraging saying you strictly and without a doubt need a pmp to be a project manager , so thank you for this video

@pphair: Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words about the video. I'm glad it was helpful and encouraging. You're right, there's a lot of conflicting information out there about project management qualifications. While a PMP can be valuable, starting a project management career is not always necessary. The CAPM is a great first step, with many paths into the field. Keep exploring your options and building your skills. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I just came across your video and I think you have a good presentation style and communication skills. I am currently studying for the CAPM and have project management experience. I need the certificate to support my regional operations management experience as I transition into the actual title of project management professional.

So I’m a logistics coordinator but I do not have a degree but I’m currently in college for business of science with project management certificate. But I’m also doing the Google project management and I’m looking to do the CAPM, will a project coordinator fit me better?

@kylesteward256 First, thank you for taking the time to comment and you asked a really great question. If you don't have a degree, but have a high school diploma, general educational development, or global equivalent, as well as 23 hours of project management education completed before the CAPM exam, then you can definitely take the CAPM... Now, to address the career direction... For me, I started as business analyst, then Project Coordinator. Knowing what I know now, I would have started off as a project coordinator, then transition into becoming a project manager... I truly believe a project coordinator really gives you a framework of learning what an actually project manager has to do day in and day out. So, yes, I would recommend starting in a project coordinator role, but with a plan to move into a project manager's role... That is if you want to become a project manager. I hope this helps... If not, please let me know I can assist.

@@edwardcokejr I know it depends on the company and opportunity but do most project coordinators that to do well in their role have the chance to become a project manager in that company? Rather than waiting years to take my PMP?
@edwardcokejr
7 ай бұрын
@@kylesteward256 Yes, you can transition into becoming a project manager into a company. However, in regards to the PMP, you would still need to meet the following requirements... four-year college degree, 36 months of experience leading projects within the past eight years, and 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM certification. If you don't meet those requirements, then you would need to meet the these requirements... High School or Secondary Diploma, 60 months of experience leading projects within the past eight years and 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM certification. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I have a question I’ve been in restaurant and retail management for 8 years, finishing my degree in business administration. I’m used to running small businesses and a team do you think my skillsets, with the capm would translate into being a successful project manager. Thanks for the advice
@edwardcokejr
Ай бұрын
@anthonyedwards4146 Hello, I actually started in retail management myself as well. Yes, the CAPM would be a benefit to being a successful project manager, BUT real-world experience in project management will allow you to become an exceptional project manager. I have created content about volunteering for an organization to get real-world project management experience. Also, the CAPM will provide you with the foundation of what project management truly is, and real-world experience will allow you to understand how to use the concepts learned through the CAPM certification.

@@edwardcokejr basically how u can get started as a volunteer. I’m currently a junior in college with the 8 years of retail and restaurant management, so I’m narrowing down what I want to do once I get my degree and project management might be it. If I can try it out before jumping in that would be awesome and I’m starting to apply for internships. Also is it an entry level position post bachelors? Curious on what path I need to break in.

@edwarcokejr I know you covered it but is getting the capm enough to separate myself from other candidates?
@edwardcokejr
6 ай бұрын
@@jonesybabyor Yes, you would create a separation if you and another candidate had the same amount of experience, but you had the CAPM. However, my recommendation would also be to create a roadmap of how you plan to gain additional experience, then eventually obtaining your PMP. Having roadmap and presenting to the hiring manager would also be valuable for you to stand out amongst other candidates. This is because you know the journey and destination.
