Hollywood treated her so bad. She was tired and didn't get a chance to really live her life, but they didn't give a damn. They just worked her and worked her. RIP Judy!

Thank you for your post. You are absolutely right in what you say. As this story clearly tells and from other books that I have read Judy was mistreated from day one, first from her mother and then Hollywood. Hollywood gave her uppers and downers from a very young age so she could basically work around the clock. It's also clear that Judy had an addictive personality. Do I blame Judy for what happened to her, no I don't, not in this case! So all these negative people with ugly comments about Judy can go somewhere else! Judy was the greatest and always will be!

That part of E. Gumm not having any talent is absolute crap. She could play the piano, and as for the fact that she totally forced Judy to perform, making her out to be some evil person is bull. Judy was born just after the depression, so money was tight, but the part where they say her parents didn't want her is crap. If they didn't want her, they wouldn't have kept her. Did they actually put ANY reserch into this programme at all??

+scdevon true, it wasn't till 1950 that barbs and amps were official considered addictive like alcohol and morphine. She at the end was so hepatitis ridden and heat heart damaged at her body size and under weight 10 pills of Seconal , even if taken over the span of 6 to 8 hours, wouldn't have time to metabolize, thus build-up was the fatal result. I visited her grave, and there was a special glow I felt. like being around a Queen.

I think perhaps Adrana is referring to the horrible Ethel Gumm who exploited her kids mercilessly and set Judy on the path of destruction from an early age. A mother would have protected her child from extaordinarily long working hours and stress, as much as she could. This woman threw her kid into a cauldron of drugs and exploitation, and happily cashed the checks. What an awful woman.

My mother actually knew Ms. Garland, through some of her most anguished and roughest years. She wasn't famous, but knew many that were, and spoke often of Garland's vulnerability and generousity of spirit. WHen she died, my mother just sobbed and sobbed. I'd sure like to see when and were Judy allegedly uttered these words, because I know they're untrue. Regardless of all else, Judy was a devoted mother, and her children often kept her going.

She didn't commit suicide. It was deemed an accidental death because she had taken pills and fallen asleep and woke up feeling sick and forgot how much she had taken and took more. That occurs often especially with things like sleeping pills. Her death was so very tragic and I wish everyday that she could have lived longer and maybe would have found the love that she so deeply desired. Judy is an icon and a legend, and will forever be misssed and my hero.

Kids born in that generation were treated like "miniature adults". My father was born in 1929. When he was six when his father died. He didn't know until one week later. Back then, there was no such thing as MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), support groups for widowed mothers, appropriate support for bereaved children, no DCFS, and so on. Sometimes you didn't even know what your parents did for a living.

They say when any hih profile person has mental health issues the way Judy had they put together an Obituary. Britney spears, AMY Winehouse, Janis Joplin and the like all have OBITS written. Sad but true. Judy is in such a different category due to her talent. Just putting those other singers in as examples. JUDY is TOPS
