While I'm not happy about having surgery, I now realize that the sooner the correction, the less invasive the surgery.

I wish all doctors were like you, outstanding explanation of surgical procedures to different types of bunions. I was so afraid of surgery I have endured lots of pain trying to avoid it but I gave up I am about to go thru a lapidus bunionectomy and I am glad I found your Video and was able to understand diferent procedures.

I wish I had seen his video prior to having Lapiplasty 5 weeks ago. I believe my bunion problem could have been solved with the first simple method you showed. Instead, I had the lapiplasty and have had the most horrible nerve pain ever. I am still in pain and have not been able to put weight on my foot yet. I am told recuperation will last 4 months but people tell me they have had pain and swelling for up to a year. I regret having had the surgery. P.S. I have had a total of 7 surgeries in my body and this has been the worse of all.

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear this! I’ve had many surgeries like you, for me major joint replacements, knee, shoulders, now hip which went and still is really hard to deal with. My bunions are bad, My feet hurt bad, my toes on both feet are crossed etc. My family wants me to get them done but,…. I’m terrified. I’m so sick of recovering from surgical pain!!! Ugh! I have to think this through a lot more!!!! I also have hammer toes. Ugh…… I hope you’ll be ok?!

Thank you Dr. Clain, I have a combination of the issues you showed and appreciate your insight as to how you go about creating a treatment plan. Foot problems and surgery for feet is such transparent problem. I sure wish I wasn’t one of the “lucky” ones who have to deal with it.

Wow!!! Thank you for this video. I have a bunion similar to the first picture you showed , a mild bunion. And my doctor told me it would be crazy to do surgery on my feet when I could just do some kind of feet exercises that can "Help" with my bunion. And guess what NONE OF THEM WORKED. Wish I could go to you doctor 😢

Liked the video, such calm voice! It is a pity bunions often treated with a surgery that requires complex rehabilitation. Wouldn't it be great if bones can be put to proper place w/out surgery?

So satisfying to watch and very clear and informative. I want to fly there for this surgery. I am terrified to have it done in Chicago. I am down to one pair of hiking boots I can wear. I am afraid mine will be unfixable if I wait much longer to do this.

That's a very informative video. I shall keep this in mind as i seek out a doctor to treat my left foot bunion. I have left foot bunion - all because since a child my mother bought shoes to fit my 8.5 size right foot. As an adult in my 40s a shoe clerk told me I having to wear shoes to fit my bunion foot which was a size 9, but that left my non-bunion foot swimming in 8.5 size shoe, even with padding, my foot kept slipping out. I couldn't buy any shoes to suit both my feet.

I've heard of a service that matches people with divergent shoe sizes but I can't remember it's exact name- like a size 9 and 8.5 with its reverse match. If you can agree on styles it would be Heaven Sent, wouldn't it?

Hi I'm in UK. Had surgery in 1992 when I was 23. Bilateral metatarsal osteotomy. Big for not really shorter but foot straighter. I had both feet done simultaneously. My complete recovery time was about 8 weeks. One foot healed before the other. Scars on top of feet can be painful in tight boots. Now I'm 52 and left foot has slight bunion again. HTH

P.S. I had bunions \deformed feet from childhood so prolly genetic (adopted so guessing). No metal; they just shortened the metatarsal and treated it like a broken bone I guess. I expected to get arthritis but when I was 23 I wanted pain free feet which did not look like ducks' feet
