Careful with that axe, Eugene :). Gretsch copied Gibson's sound-block to reduce feedback by adding the trestle bracing on the 6120 (I have one in my lap as I type). Fun Fact: The heat press machine that Gibson uses to bend and form the wood to make the sides of the ES 335 body, (half the body) can do a piece of wood wide enough that once it's formed they can take it over to the band saw and get 4 sides, enough to make 2 guitars. That heat press machine is the SAME one that Gibson has used ever since the ES 335 first started being made in the 1950's!! So while they are now being made in Tennessee, it's still the same machine that they used in Memphis AND in Kalamazoo!! I do not like that color choice but for some reason I wouldn't mind having one lol. I don't know anything about Cornell other than he is 1 of the 6 original grunge lead singers of which only 1 of them is still alive, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. I remember back in the early 90's when other rockers would talk about grunge and they couldn't understand why people wanted to listen to such depressing music and one guy actually said he won't be surprised at all when he hears that one of those guys ended up committing suicide because if the music was any indication as to their mental health condition, it's just a matter of time before one of them does it. Then about 2 weeks later Kurt Cobain killed himself! I like the clear knobs but since I am constantly playing with my volume and tone knobs when I am playing I hate not having numbers on the knob. I have a guitar that uses those knurled knobs without numbers and it's annoying!!

FWIW: an approximation of the black one can be done without too much difficulty: there are Nashville-built Satin ES-335s available for $2600 (though it looks like only some retailers have black, and it's not on the website anymore), and a pair of Lollartrons can be bought new for about $370.

So Trogly used the phrase “scalper’s market,” referring to the fact the people scooped them up to resell. But shouldn’t the use of the word scalper be applied to anyone who buys anything with the intention of selling it down it down the road for profit, whether it’s a new signature model, or some twenty year old guitar from Reverb?

In ‘A Star is Born’ Bradley Cooper’s character also plays an olive drab ES, and I won’t spoil the movie but it is a tragically apt choice.

I finally got the chance to play one of these in a local music store today. It was a black one from 2013. I loved it! But at 8k it's definitely out of my price range.

as rock fans didn't have a chance to see him sing live is really sad.
