Genuinely surprised that Thundermountain didn't maintain the highest ammo pack density with all those max ammo packs everywhere. Gravel Pit's lack of health packs is kind of interesting to me for a few reasons. There's only a single medium health pack on the map, while all others are small packs and none of Gravel Pit's health packs are easily accessible for the Blu team until they have begun capturing control points. It seems to me that this distribution was very intentional to encourage/force offense to suicide rush throughout the entire match, for defense to just barely be able to sustain themselves on the piddly healing of small health packs and just generally make the map difficult for teams without Medics and Dispensers. I think Gravel Pit's health pack distribution is somewhat emblematic of how weird some of the 2007 TF2 map design was compared to later maps.

I think you are on to something here.. not to mention the way the spawn is designed with the tunnels that drop down into the points - it makes it not worth it for most classes to go back and resup, taking away the huge spawn room advantage that is so familiar on many payload/CP maps. 2007 tf2 map design is an enigma.

I may be stupid, but did you measure the places where health packs could spawn or the entire square/rectangle? Also upward has an extra health and ammo next to a tractor in the kill pit (at least in the servers I play)

A fascinating data deep dive but I am dumbfounded why you didn't measure healthpack/ammopack density as weighted value/map size. Did I miss something that motivated your desicison to invert this?

good research, but why are you measuring health pack density in kHu²/pack it would be clearer if unit was pack/kHu² like population density for example( number of people/ unit of area)
@crimsonvale7337
8 ай бұрын
I'm assuming the idea was to think of what it would look like if each health pack was equally spaced on a flat plane, but I have no clue how much 1 Hu is, and people are terrible at estimating area measurements. Overall, I think I can respect the idea, but tbh it's definitely worth it to stick to pack/kHu^2 as that's what people are used to. Some things are common for a reason

@@crimsonvale7337 1 hammer unit is normally 1 inch for character models (doesnt apply to tf2, applies to half life, portal, cs, l4d), and 1/16 of a foot for maps (may or may not apply to tf2, applies to all those other more realistic games) its easier to assume 1 unit is 1 inch, and most do for stuff like distance and movement speed

@@dkskcjfjswwwwwws413 sorry, I do have a vague idea of how much an hammer unit is, but my point was meant to be more about how that applies to the in-game distances. For the most part, "1 Hu" is somewhat meaningless to the general tf2 population because even if they know it's "the in-game equivalent of 1 inch" that means nothing when 1 in-game inch could be scaled to visually mean anything.

One thing a little weird to me was that you decided to measure density in area per point and not reverse, like every other density is. Would've been more intuitive. Besides, great video! It would've also been cool to see density comparison between gamemodes or the distribution of density
