I remember watching those boring ass movies and trying to stay awake. You would hear heads hitting the desk top all the time. I did pretty good, still got both my virgin chits. Can't believe that was 31 years ago. Spent all 4 years in San Diego. I do miss that city. Went around the horn in 87, what a great cruise. I could have done without the fire we had to fight though. 18 hours to get it out.

Turn your brain off. They will tell you what to do , when to do it and how to do it. "There is the right way, the wrong way and the NAVY way". Make sure the Company Commander (or whatever they are called these days) never knows your name. STAY INVISIBLE!!! Remember that they cannot touch you. All they can do is yell at you. The physical part is a joke. I did maybe 100 pushups the entire time I was in boot camp. It is all mental.

The best thing I did when I signed up for the Army was put myself on Zyban (to quit smoking and it worked!) and I began to run cross-country and track. It's not super critical if you're slim and in decent shape because they're going to put you into 3 different running groups-Alpha (the super-fast), Bravo (Average), and Charlie (the slowest) and after 9 weeks of intense training you'll probably cut off a couple of minutes from your first PT test. They'll build you up physically and mentally whether you like it or not. .

Hey! I was a Nuke! I take that as a personal... Umm... Uhh... Accurate description. When they say don't nuke it, well, I brought calculus, physics, and other sciences into... well... everything I did. And they didn't applaud my efforts. But at least I wasn't the division nuke. Actually, we had well over 60 nukes in my bootcamp division. How they explained it was, "Oh great. A division of nukes. This division has the highest average ASVAB score on record..." Our average was about 80 something out of 99. "Yet these are the dumbest m-fers possible." We got 'dropped' (made to do push-ups) by the base Commander during practice for graduation. We got ourselves into so much trouble that nearly everywhere we went, people knew about division 084 from '99 - '00. We even narrowly escaped getting courts-martialed for several articles of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). So, yeah. Try not to do what I did. Oops...

I'd call it a Company...not sure about the Navy lingo. Do you know if that is true? In Meps, I failed my first color vision test but my second test was the FALANT, idk if you're familer, but it's a small box with two small light bulbs and they blink red whit and green, and you have to say why color it is, I passed this test. So they ruled me as no color blindness, I want to try out for special forces but this may be stoping me from that. if you have to take another physical in boot camp do you get the same option to take the FALANT in you fail the first time?

+JTsuits well, everyone seems to have their own challenges through boot camp. Some lack physical fitness and have a hard time with that, others just can't seem to listen to the authoritative figure and follow orders. My main struggle through boot camp was being separated from my family, because I had never lived out on my own. So if anyone is going to bootcamp and has never been on their own, I suggest setting up a list of their favorite 5 people, and have them send letters every single night, so it'll keep coming even though you don't get the chance to write back. Trust me, laying in my rack depressed while 60 other recruits in the room get mail didn't help me cheer up at all. And the the ones that always received letters each night (from multiple people) carried about their boot camp day with a positive attitude.
@jtmnavy

Hey, I'm 20 and i've been talking to my recruiter about going into the Navy. I've watched your videos but i'm still nervous about Boot Camp, actually i'm mostly nervous about once i leave, i will be on my own, away from friends and family, so it just bothers me. i'm kinda one of those people who over reacts to things so i want to know how to deal with it and overcome this nervousness

I'm gonna tell you right now, it sucks! ESPECIALLY P-days. HOWEVER, it gets easier with time, and before you know it, you're graduating. It's gonna suck, and you're gonna want to go home, but when you finish Battlestations and do the capping ceremony, and then graduate, it's totally worth it.

Hey JT, You had mentioned in one of your other videos that in your division about 20 people quit. How were they able to leave boot camp? Were they all dishonorably discharged?
@andezong9565

I'm not a Navy vet or anything(14 year old/future sailor here lol), but from my understanding, they're not "discharged", since they're still in RTC, so they're not "official" sailors(of course, I could be wrong too, since I'm only 14).

Thank you for this comment! It makes me so much reassured that I will make it in boot camp!!! I am a bit worried about boot camp, and am doing my best to be sure that I can make it. I will come into boot camp physically fit and I will graduate!!! I will not quit!!!

lol, we only had one idiot in my company who talked back. That fool ended up in the bright at Great Lakes. They kept him for like three months 😂 I wasn't the best in PT, but even with a 102 fever they pushed me and just, barely passed the final PT test. I wanted to die lol. I went straight from the track to the hospital. Damned if I didn't screw up as we went into the hospital. I was sort of delirious from being sick with the damn flu and I forgot to salute an Admiral 🤔😮. Fortunately I was with someone who knew the admiral and he explained my actions (or more like lack of action) and he let it slide (WHEW!!!!). After leaving the hospital with antibiotics and an IV we ran into the same Admiral and this time I saluted properly 😉 and all was well.

@ralpholaso8025

+James Brown if ur good with swimming, then ur set. all it is is just u jump of from 20 -30 ft platform and make u swim around after jumping with whatever style u want. ur gonna wana know how to float for 2 min. after that you ur good. if ur beyond average in swimming, they might even recommend you to try for navy divers, or something like that.

Is true that once I'm in the Reserves, I can apply Navy Full Time Support (FTS), where sailors are members of the Navy Reserves who perform full-time active duty, receiving the same pay, allowances, and benefits as active duty members.

That is what I did. That very thing. Spent 4 years on the carrier Constellation CV-64 ABM/2 in San Diego starting back in 1985. Boot camp I thought was pretty easy. Hell today you don't even say sir anymore unless an officer walks by. We saluted everything. 'When in doubt whip it out' You will be fine.Remember, it is just a mind game.

You can get tattoos on your neck and even behind your ear as long as it does not exceed one inch. The Navy is not that strict on tattoos.

I know this might be late and you won't but reply but I have a question: I'm 14 and enlisting in 3 years(straight out of my senior year of high school)(also too patriotic and devoted to wait till I'm 18), but is it possible for me to still be an E-3 in the Navy if I join MCJROTC in high school?(I'm starting high school this year after summer and I just want a heads up. I'm also completely alright with starting out as an E-1 as well). Oh, and sorry, but would you say that I should have a "fail safe" rating/MoS in case I fail SWCC training? (I plan to be a Gunner's Mate just in case I fail SWCC training, but what else can I choose to do in the Navy if there are no available GM positions?(I want to do combat related stuff in the Navy).
@DrzAnt12
8 жыл бұрын
In basic training you will be recognized as an E-1. When I was in Parris Island, everyone was an E-1. But they told you that if you went in as an E-2, you will be getting paid as an E-2 and get that rank once your graduate. Just because you are an "E-3" in your school program, doesn't mean you will be an E-3 in the Navy once you finish. Most I have seen is someone getting E-2. Either way its not that long of a wait from E-2 to E-3. Good luck.
@Barwinsb

people who try and dont succeed in special ops automatically become unrated (boatswains mate) and do the menial tasks for upkeep on the ships like sweeping and painting. as an unrated, you have the option after getting to E-3 to strike for a rating, but only if the navy has a need to fill that rating. unfortunately the navy might just tell you that you are S.O.L. and keep you unrated for your first enlistment with a pay cap at E-3. it is the closest thing to slavery in the modern world.
@andezong9565

+Brian but wait, I thought that if you fail SWCC training, the Navy would let you choose a different/your original rating..?

+Eren Jaeger They MIGHT let you choose from a list of whats available. These will be jobs nobody else took, so don't expect anything good. If not, then you will go undesignated and do all the "fun" sailor shit. DON'T FAIL. NEVER QUIT!
