I was on an 8 hour flight. I had had an awful headache for a week, couldn't sleep well. At the airport I picked up some Tylenol pm and figured eh, let's try it. It said to take two one hour before bedtime. I took one one hour before my flight and one as I was boarding. I sat down and almost immediately everyone got up and off the plane. I was a bit annoyed thinking they had us get off the plane at the same destination. The guy next to me started laughing and told me "we've landed!". Apparently I had fallen asleep before the plane started moving and only woke up after we had stopped at our destination. He had climbed over me several times to get to the bathroom and I hadn't even twitched. I basically teleported from the US to Europe. If something had gone wrong on that flight I don't think I'd have made it 😅 I slept on the next flight too, but that was a normal sleep where you notice you sleep.

I‘m glad I’m not alone with lasting ear pain 😅 I didn’t fall asleep but had to fly home from holiday with a cold. My ears hurt so bad while descending and landing, I felt deaf for around 6h afterwards and my ears randomly went numb and hurt for another 2 weeks afterwards. It stopped after that, but I was kind of afraid that I had fucked up my ears.

The flight I fell asleep on was short, about 2hrs but our connection to it had been delayed. I stayed with my parents and kid brother at the airport for hours at night till the airline finally gave us accommodations for the night. We arrived around 10, had a late late dinner and got to bed at 11. I was so stressed out I barely slept, I kept worrying about my dad cause being on his feet so many hours was bad for him, and my mom had been stressing me out over everything and my brother well... he was just being a kid. The moment the plane was effectively high up, I had filled out all paperwork necessary and my brother was entertained coloring... I fell asleep. Dad woke me up before landing, it was a tough flight, but I'm glad I was there to help my parents.

Oh man I have a story for the first point! So my family is Canadian but we lived in Australia for the better part of 10 years. We decided to move back to Canada when our landlord decided they wanted to move back into our house and we’d have to leave anyway so we may as well go back to Canada. Anyway, it was fairly short notice and we were packing right up until late the night before we left. Early morning flight after barely any sleep and we just collapsed into our seats once we got on the plane and immediately fell asleep. Well, there was a security issue in the terminal so every single plane in the terminal had to deplane, wait while it was all cleared and then get back onboard the plane. But we were asleep! So we woke up during the commotion of everyone getting off the plane and we were very confused lol. We had to wait about an hour before we could get back on the plane and then I think we were in the air when we fell asleep again.

People think airlines are just being mean about the alcohol, but it affects your body differently at a higher altitude. And heaven forbid there's an emergency evacuation but you're falling down drunk. Some of my most memorable stories from working station ops are a passenger who I denied boarding for intoxication getting into a physical fight with airport police at the gate and mini-bottles of liquor were falling out of his pockets, and a passenger on an inbound being arrested at arrival because he tried to breach the flight deck when he was refused more alcohol in flight.

That alcohol one is a biggy most places, yet people forget all of everything when in holiday mode. Worked at an airport cafe, the amount of women trying to buy wine for the plane thinking they’d hit the jackpot of ideas. When, our wine was expensive crap, they’d get the same for the same price or maybe even cheaper on the plane, think £22 for a bottle you’d pay £6 for in a supermarket. Or that the alcohol didn’t actually count, we could report anyone to security, one time a hen weekend came through, drank at our cafe, until they were declined booze and warned they wouldn’t be able to get on a flight if they drank much more, so they went to the sports bar, who had already been alerted, by us and the security. They kicked off and even hit another passenger who tried to take her kids away from them. They got booted and banned from the airport, heard the bride crying on the phone on my way out that she didn’t understand what was happening, in her defence, she wasn’t the problem, it was everyone else in her group. They had to book tickets for 2 days after from Manchester because the airline wouldn’t accept them either, the hotels wouldn’t reimburse so she paid for a 14 hour hen weekend. The worst one in the group was demanding the bride pay her back, the one who punched the mum. 🤡
