The point (from a biological/evolutionary standpoint) is to help humans perpetuate the species by mating with partners who are highly viable and likely to provide for or carry healthy offspring. It's gut instinct to shun asymmetry or people who look "different" b/c historically this signaled disease or malnutrition. Even newborns, who haven't yet been "taught" about beauty standards, show preference for symmetrical, beautiful faces over disproportionate, asymmetrical ones lol (learned all this in a social psychology class)

I suppose throughout history there has been a heavy culture of objectification surrounding women that heavy focused on beauty and fertility, and in the modern day that focus on beauty has been reclaimed as an empowering and individualising thing for women. That idea has opened up to men as well in modern culture, luxuries of "beauty" and being attractive are now associated with men too. However I feel like maybe the lack of historical association with that category still lead to "beauty" instantly relating to women. Maybe the idea of making a man 'attractive' and their standards of what we would now call 'beauty' has historically been less about cosmetic beauty and more work ethic and being able to provide and protect? I'm not pushing an agenda either btw, i know how it sounds, i'm honestly just making up a theory on culture and stuff

Wallflower Xx Most girls don't really care about how men looks... That's why men's life got a bit easier. Just a bit, though... I might prefer skinny men to flabby ones, but the most important things would still be in the heart. As long as the dude has good-natured personality, he'll be good looking in my eyes. Unfortunately for girls, most men (not all of them) judge a girl from the appearance...even when they already had the sweetest hard working wife by their side, many of them still cheated at the first chance they got if the seducer was prettier than their wives.

Most koreans want heathy bright skin they stay away from damaging things like bleach and use natural ingredients in skincare to brighten their skin and they do not hate or dislike darker skinned people. I think people get confused when they here whitening or brighting it doesnt mean bleach but rather have heathy glow or look to skin this can go for all skin colors, the healthy bright glow.

I have very thick eyebrows and have always had them that way since I was in elementary school but I went to a very predominantly white school District where I was one of three Hispanic girls in my graduating class. And I went to high school in the early 2000s where the big thing was to have thin eyebrows and a spray-on tan and give yourself a beauty mark like Marilyn Monroe. I felt very isolated when going to school but I never gave in to plucking my eyebrows even though my classmates I would point out that I would look better if I pluck my eyebrows. Looking back at the yearbook jokes on them at least I don't look like I have a Sharpie line above my eyes😂😂😂

The reason for light skin in Asia is the most reasonable thing. Me as an Asian person with light skin knowing about this, I agree with no tans 100%. Appreciate yourself anyways. So in Asia, poor people would have to work in heat waves giving them dark sun tans. Because that would happen too poor people, it shows that you don't have the money too look nice while it's opposite in America where people afford luxury tanning salons.
@lilbiglim

Ana Brito no, that's the case in America. Tanning makes you look nice in that area. My grandma comes from China, the people worked that way back in her days, and we evolved like that.

I also have a lot of insecurities back then but it all changes when I cut those people in my life & replace them with people who sees the best in me & the next step is finally loving yourself....now I am confident enough and don't give a fvck to the people around me, say what they want to say, at least I am happy.😊 You're beautiful. We are all beautiful.❤

3:46 In the 90’s Mexican women were all about the thin and drawn on Sharpie eyebrows. I grew up in SoCal where a large Mexican population exists and I remember as a kid in the 90’s I’d see teen girls from the high school near my elementary school regularly sport their drawn on thin eyebrows. Remember the 90’s chola girls with skinny drawn on eyebrows and overlined lips with ugly brown lip liner and no lipstick?!

Believe me, fair skin and sun don't mix! And fair skin isn’t that fair (beautiful). You see all the blemmishes, you burn red in the sun and with age the red stays. No, darker shades are way more practical! And more beautiful, even with sun exposure and age. Still I love my skintone, even if its ivory. You should love the skintone you were blessed with. I really hate the fact that you never push your research about african beauty standards any further than the good ole "Ethiopians like having scars or Ethiopian women like stretching their neck". The people you showed don't even make a quarter out of the Ethipian population let alone Africa. For example the facts that you gave for the asian beauty standards cover the majority of them unlike that scars thing. So please, next time try and make an effort to give more accurate facts.

I find people saying "You're ugly" unattractive, and "You're fat hahahaha" and stuff like that. I find it attractive about the people who say "Don't worry, hun, you're beautiful. Everyone is beautiful no matter what happens, if someone calls you ugly, there's no ugly in this world. God loves us all and knows we are all beautiful. Fat, petite, curvy, plus size, fucking beau - ty - ful. I find girls and boys who go like "Leave them alone, god doesn't like the people who bully! Do you want God to hate you?" (people like that) And yes I'm Bisexual and African American but I'm still a human being, aren't I? Just like everybody reading this and everyone getting bullied.

Though some ideas about beauty is a "construction" scientists have found that the basic idea of beauty is not. Beauty i all cultures is based on facial symmetry. This goes across all cultures. They have even developed a scientific formula that when applied to "beautiful people" turns out to be universal.

I am Indonesian with a light skin. I don't like if my skin is too white or too tan. I like just some healthy tan on it. Thing is every single beauty product here has whitening or brightening ingredients. Whitening ur skin makes ur skin thin. My skin is also transparent clear like see through. I can see even the smallest veins. When i use some product, the glitter can be seen clear as day on me while on others not.
