Management consultants are hired to help companies improve their performance whereas investment bankers are hired for transactions (M&A, IPO, capital raisings, etc)

I worked at a bulge bracket ibank in London in debt capital markets and all of the business units such as origination, syndication and transaction management are based on the huge trading floor along with secondary market traders. The equities floor and other areas are separate and have chinese walls/info barriers. I currently work at a Japanese ibank and there are on site mindfulness classes at least once a week (optional but popular).....

@@ScienceSimplifiedAcademy Hello, my suggestion would be to try to do some vacation placements at investment banks, ideally bulge but non bulge is still worthwhile. KZitem videos and other internet research is good for gaining a basic understanding of how investment banks work. Maybe try reading "The History of Goldman Sachs". Also, it is worth doing some gym work to try to get in decent shape. Good luck.

And everyone who got in was part of their student managed fund at their university where you definitely need to know how to pitch and how to invest to get in. Your grades must have been high but did none of this other stuff matter for you?

Generally first few years - gets better later on, but you can still have some pretty late nights and work weekends

@@Nero691 Sorta! Although people usually don't retire after 15 years, because by that point if they've stayed in IB, they'll have reached ED/MD level, which is supposed to be a pinnacle of their career.

An immigration attorney in the USA said in a video that he has seen investment bankers with 72k base salary and 600k bonus. Is that true? How common is it? PS - This was a great video btw. Got to know a different side of side of you :)

Thanks Sarvesh! Haven't seen that type of base / salary before. Usually minimum base is 85k with a bonus of 70-100%. For bonuses of 600k, your base salary would likely have to be at least upward of 300k.
