I'd say Sniper makes sense as a Normal + Dark type. He obviously isn't nefarious or evil like the official Dark type implies, but he's somewhat stealthy and strategizes around punishing other player's mistakes, tries to attack without getting seen akin to a Sucker Punch, and he applies debuffs like a dark type would and then immediately capitalizes on it. Coupled with the Normal type, this would give him a 4X fighting weakness in Pokemon, which translates well to how he typically struggles with close quarters fighters that get the drop on him

Another trait that Dark types tend to have is that they have cheap tactics and dirty fighting moves, such as Sucker Punch and Taunt. I feel like Sniper being relatively sneaky due to being a sniper (they hide in dark places, but I'm overstretching) and his use of Jarate definitely being a dirty tactic, I'd say he'd definitely fit as a Dark type Edit: I suck at words and spelling

My personal opinions on each class: Scout: Water/Flying. Water because of Lon’s mentioned reasons, but also Flying because of his speed, his Hermes boot icon, and - most importantly - his double jump (which can be extended with many unlocks). Soldier: Completely agree with Lon here. Maybe normal instead of Fighting, but I still think fighting works better overall. Pyro: Again, completely agree with Lon. I would honestly love to hear another idea that isn’t Fire/Fairy, since it just fits so perfectly Demo: A tough one, since he fits… a lot of types. I decided Fire/Steel works well (though more for the stickies than the swords like Lon said). Heavy: Ground and Fighting works well. I was considering Ice because of where his family lives and all that, but… as someone whose favorite type is Ice, the last thing we need is another attempt at a slow, tanky ice type. Engineer: Some have mentioned Electric. I agree. Electric/Psychic it is, then. Medic: Normal/Grass is just… an odd choice. Especially since pokemon learn moves that are outside their typings, and signature moves… exist. I would argue that Poison/Dark fits far better, with Poison being because of the Chemical Warfare that he does (and as an homage to TFC Medic)… overall, poison just fits too well. As for Dark, this is mostly because of his personality - most of Medic’s personality traits line up with common traits ascribed to Dark or Ghost types, and he isn’t dead, which just leaves dark. Sniper: Dark/Normal works better than pure normal imo. Dark because he hides in the shadows and secluded areas, similarly to Umbreon or Absol, and Normal because of his professionalism and because he is mostly just… normal, as far as personality goes, compared to the other 8. Spy: Dark/Steel. I was considering replacing steel, but I couldn’t think of a good enough replacement and if I did, there would be only one steel-type merc, which just feels wrong. Dark replaced ghost because, as said with Sniper, shadows are associated with Dark more than Ghost or any other type. Besides, he isn’t dead (No, Jellicent’s existence does not prove that Spy can be a ghost).

@TrixterTheFemboy
Күн бұрын
Wholeheartedly agree with your typings for Soldier, Heavy, Engi, and Demo, but I'm not so sure about the rest. For Spy, I really don't think Steel is fitting. Steel-type mons are almost all very durable and relatively large, which is the absolute opposite of Spy. I think Ghost/Dark fits better, since Dark is generally associated with underhanded tactics, cruelty, and unfair fighting. For Sniper, I will actually propose Water... and not just because of Jarate. Several Water-type pokemon are associated with high-power single-shot rifle-like attacks at long range (Clawitzer, Blastoise, Inteleon, and prolly a few others I'm forgetting). Between that, Jarate, and literally being born below the ocean, I think it's the closest fit we've got. I could see Water/Normal too. For Pyro, while I do like Fire/Fairy, I think Fire/Poison also makes a ton of sense: Pyro is always in a gas mask, something associated with toxic gas in warfare, plus they're the only class with damage over time in their stock weapons, which Poison is very heavily tied to. Just depends on whether you choose the second type off what they see or what everyone else does, either fits Medic... you really should'nt've let your choice be tied to just the types with the most healing moves. I'd suggest either Fairy or Psychic paired with Dark: Dark is the cruel evil type, and Medic finds ze hurting much more rewarding than ze healing, whilst Psychic is for high intelligence and healing/supporting teammates via moves like Reflect, Light Screen, Heal Pulse, Instruct, and Trick Room. With the interpretation that mons like Grimmsnarl and Tinkaton take, Fairy also suits that cruel nature while seeming good on the surface, plus I just associate it with healing for some reason. Scout I feel is very clearly a Flying type: he's got high speed, high aerial mobility, he often stays airborne for most of a fight, he's close range, and he's fragile, all of which are associated with Flying. As for a second type... I really don't know. Normal could work well due to his fairly simple on paper but effective fighting style; Fighting could maybe work for his cocky eagerness to fight, though that's more of a Fighting/Dark thing specifically as it's only really seen on Scrafty and Toxicroak afaik; Bug could work for having access to unusual abilities, being great at getting in and out quickly a la First Impression and U-Turn, and high fragility; even Poison could work for being the class with the most bleeds and the fact that his sodas are almost certainly toxic. I could see Flying paired with any of these. Fun video btw, and I think seeing which actual pokemon the mercs fit with in your mind(regardless of if the types line up with this video's) could be another neat one.

Potential Ability effects for the mercs(in the mindset that these would be exclusive to the respective merc): Scout: When hit by a water type attack, apply protect but you can't use any attacking moves while the status is active. Cannot activate the turn after the protect status ends and protect and it's equivalents will most likely fail on the same turn(of course based on the BONK atomic punch) Soldier: Explosive moves deal extra damage, can survive one explosion or self destruct when used(Soldier would definetly put more gunpowder in there to amplify the explosion and also that one glitch with the taunts of the escape plan and equalizer where you can actually survive the taunt if you stand under a bridge on certain maps) Pyro: All fire type moves also deal fairy type damage(like flying press does for flying and fighting, based on the fact that Pyro views that he does not actually do fire damage, also the Rainblower) Demoman:If a KO is gotten with an contact move, heal 20% of the hp and get a stat boost in speed, can only activate five times in one battle(based on the eyelander's head collection) Heavy:yeah i have no clue for heavy, go give suggestions or smth Engineer 1:If alone in a double battle, can build a sentry gun at the end of the turn that automatically attacks the pokemon with the least hp, except for ally pokemon, of course.(based on the ability of engineer to be able to build sentry guns, of course) Engineer 2: If a third contact move is landed in a row, a crit is guarranteed on the third hit(yes yes engi has 2 signature abilities, go cry about it. Based on the gunslinger) Medic:All healing moves heal 50% more and also heal the partner in a double battle(of course due to medic being the healer of the mercs, he would know the ins and outs of healing, therefore being able to amplify it) Sniper:All bullet moves have a higher chance to crit and higher accuracy(based on headshots and the way skilled snipers can actually truely snipe you from across the map) Spy:Can survive one fatal blow and only takes 10% of the actual blow, then switches out, the enemy sees that the spy actually died, can only be used once per battle(based on the dead ringer and it's fake death)

I think the mercenaries' types should be based on in-game balance rather than what type of weapons they use. I'd tweak things as follows: - I'd keep Heavy, Soldier, Pyro and Engineer because they're perfectly sound, though there's an argument for Engineer being Steel/Electric. - Sniper would be Ghost/Grass because he's an ambush hitman that hides in plain sight and can check Heavies, however he gets bodied by any hard hitting move, like Soldier's Flying STAB; - Spy would be Dark/Steel, because he's a counter to Engineer and Sniper, however he gets bodied by both Soldier and Pyro; - Scout would be Water/Electric because thematically makes sense whilst making his match with Heavy more even; - Medic would be Grass/Psychic because, apart from Medic's high IQ, it makes great synergy with Heavy and Soldier whilst being an easy target for Sniper and Spy; - Demoman would be Fire/Rock type. While it's one of the type combos with the worst synergy, it would still be able to check classes like Soldier and Pyro, and Demo himself is quite bulky;

Sniper could be like... Ground/Steel? Steel because he's usiquely reliant on his gun, bullets, and knife (other mercs have other tricks), and Ground because he stays mostly rooted in one spot, and is associated with the deserty Australia? Normal type would make him immune to Spy's attacks, and Spy immune to Sniper, so we'd ideally want to play into their rivalry - Ground would give Sniper an advantage vs Spy, so that's no good. Water type gets through Steel's defences, so Sniper as Water/Normal could reflect his Jarate/Razorback (pierce Steel defence, ignore Ghost attacks), while neither resists Steel so Spy can still get his attacks in. Maybe Spy would have a special Backstab ability that makes an attack super-effective if it's not resisted? Probably too strong.

Just a small thing for Scout, he should be flying type. Scout is the only class that can double jump, and has a variety of unlocks to assist his horizontal and vertical mobility. Flying type is a fairly quick type, and unlike electric, fits better with lore. Scouts literal icon is a baseball shoe with wings

I could also see normal for solider, since he is kinda the "basic mercenary", whenever they need a stand in to get mowed down by the other classes in the meet the team videos, it is always a solider and he is the most popular class. (Or steel because of his lead poisoning)

Scout - Electric, Bug: Electric for his natural speed and evasion; Bug, for multi-hit attacks. Also for his vulnerability Soldier - Flying, Ice: Flying, for the best kit with air travel; Ice, for his rigid demeanor Pyro - Fire, Fairy: Both are fairly obvious Demoman - Fighting, Poison: Fighting, for having the strongest damage output; Poison, for being a drunk Heavy - Rock, Water: Rock, For his physical stature; Water, For his large health-pool Engineer - Steel, Ground: Steel, for his buildings; Ground, for the way he conventionally places his buildings Medic - Dragon, Dark: Dragon, for his importance; Dark, for his vile potential Sniper - Grass, Psychic: Grass, for typically stationary gameplay; Psychic, for effective lethality Spy - Ghost, Normal: Ghost, for his ability to visually fade in and out; Normal, for his ability to be inconspicuous

Spy seems like he should have the Dark type before Steel. The whole thing with the Dark type is like… sneaky and underhanded tactics. Soldier should be Flying/Normal. He's always been a kind of generic all-rounder class. Heck, his name is literally Jane Doe. If anyone deserves the Normal type, it's him. I would consider giving Sniper the Dragon type for the whole 'super effective against itself, resistant to elements' thing to represent Sniper's range and tendency to counter himself. Maybe throw Grass in there to keep him vulnerable to Fire though. Medic should definitely be Poison type. Maybe Poison/Psychic because of his insanity. Scout is definitely Bug/Flying in my eyes. Insert Heavy saying "I squash you like bug!". I might make Demoman Rock/Steel as a Gen 1 callback to Geodude's line using self-destructive explosion moves, and also moves like Rock Throw, Rollout, and Stealth Rocks matching his kit. Engi seems like he should be Steel/Electric for gameplay purposes if nothing else, so types which counter those counter him( and his buildings). Pyro and Heavy are perfect. No notes.

I'd argue Medic is Grass/Dark. He is the most comedically maniacal/evil of the mercs. I'm very surprised this could be missed-- Plus Grass/Dark is a famously atrocious combination, like his medical expertise and morbid curiosity. It also reflects on how vulnerable he can be whenever the Ubersaw isn't out in a melee fight / when his team isn't around. Dark/Grass with some broken support stuff like the Prankster ability, Triage or Magic Bounce would possibly also remedy his vulnerabilities For moves things like heal pulse, wish, helping hand, ally switch, taunt etc. would probably be a decent fit Medic is played with a lot of tact, so things like u turn/parting shot in reference to his necessary retreats to heal more targets could be a good fit Attacking moves are a bit hard to get around, you could certainly give him some funny references to his melee weapons like guillotine to reference the OP Ubersaw critrate Spy should defo have throat chop cause of Meet The Spy btw lmaooo

For medic you could have counted only moves that can potentially heal pokemon other than the user since that's his main job. That gives 3 psychic moves (heal pulse, healing wish and lunar dance) 3 grass moves (floral healing, jungle healing, leech seed since I believe you can switch out and have someone else benefit) and 3 normal moves (present, wish and revival blessing) with life dew and pollen puff being other moves also capable of healing allies. Alternatively you could have chosen poison for the second type cause his primary fires syringes that are probably full of poison indeed

Medic needs dark/ghost/fairy type. I'm not sure which one, but a) he has 9 souls, b)he has contact with the devil, and c) he is fantastical. Medic has done the nigh impossible multiple times; not only grafting 8 extra souls into himself, but also putting a soul into a pumpkin, stealing a man's skeleton (and as far as I remember, he survived) but also has Uber

Spy should be dark grass. Dark type because he can go invisible. It also reflects his trickster attitude as he inherently plays dirty Grass type for 2 reasons. He wears a paper mask while disguising which is made from trees. He also smokes tobacco literally all the time. The dual typing has a 4x weakness to the move u-turn, which is the equivalent of turning around to face a spy trying to backstab you. In addition it is also weak to fire, which is fitting as pyro is his hard counter.
Now we just need people to design POKEMON after the TF2 Mercs.

Scout: Electric Flying Electric type is usually associated with speed, and scout is the fastest Scout can double jump, granting him the flying type. Soldier: Fire, Flying Fire from the rockets And come on man, his stock load out lets him reach great heights. Pyro: mono-fire. Demoman: Fire, Steel He’s like soldier but defensive. Heavy: Rock, Fighting Rock, along with steel, is a very tanky type. I considered dragon, but decided against it. Heavy punches, thus he gets fighting. Engineer: Electric, Psychic Sentry’s (duh) give him electric Psychic is the smart type, so engi, being smart, gets it Medic: Dark, Psychic He’s evil, so dark He lost his medical license, which means he had a medical license, and is therefore smart, so psychic Sniper: Mono-water Jarate, and the only Pokémon to date to have a sniper rifle has been a water type. Spy: ghost, dark Fade away! (Ghost) Evil (dark) -zeniths guide to the mercs BONUS SAXTON Hale: mono-fighting

I'd make Sniper Dark type with Dark/Grass and Dark/Poison forms depending on what he has with him. Demo would also have two forms, one Steel/Fire(OG Demo), the other Steel/Fighting(Demo Knight). Also, he should absolutely have Poison Heal as an ability, but changed a little so that he would be the only steel type to be able to be poisoned. For Medic I feel either Poison/Dark or Poison/Psychic would work(Alolan Muk has Power of Alchemy as an ability, and Galarian Slowking is Medic in Pokemon form).

my thoughts (final results below all the paragraphs): scout: i'd definitely make scout flying type. soldier, demo and scout are the most mobile classes in tf2 and while i dont think demo shouldnt get flying cuz he doesnt really use his sticky jumps much in-game because hes maily a power class, soldier and scout definitely do, alot. and also scout's arsenal consists of an incredible amount of weapons that boost his mobility, mostly vertical. as for the second type, i think it should be either be water or normal. the other options just dont feel right to me, fighting kinds goes both ways cuz hes aggressive but runs from fights alot, electric doesnt really fit with his arsenal, bug type cuz hes annoying is kinda silly. as for the water typing tho, he has 3 liquids, 1 gun with liquid, and a fish. but i can still see him being normal type. soldier: i agree with lonq here, flying makes sense cuz duhh and fighting absolutely fits with soldier, with sun tzu and all that stuff. but besides those 2, there isnt really anything else that fits soldier, fire type might be a contender but that fits demo more for the same reason lonq said in the video, demo's just closer to his explosives. dragon might also be a contender cuz the soldier has fury in him like a dragon but fighting just fits him more. pyro: i love the idea of a fire/fairy type for pyro and im all for it. i initially like fire/dark type but once lonq brought up fairy, i loved it. other than fairy or dark i dont really see any other typings working, except for one, on bulbapedia's page on pokemon types there is a ??? type which could work with pyro cuz of the whole mystery behind him and his identity. but other than those there isnt really anything else the pyro could be. demo: i like lonq's decision here, demoknight is definitely the most popular subclass, much more than others like pyro shark, huntsman, etc. so it makes sense to add the steel type for it. and the fire type is also obvious because KABOOOM. but im actually gonna divvy it up into 3 typings, (consider it an eevee case) demoman, hydrid demo and demoknight, for demoman, fire is a must-have and for the second type, i think fighting works well cuz of his personality. for hybrid, fire and steel makes sense cuz explosives and sword (more swords than non-swords). and for demoknight, steel is a must, and fighting makes sense. u could make an argument for flying type because trimping but i decided to not make it that cuz it all just goes down to pretty much just one weapon: the tide turner, giving an insane amount of mobility compared to the other shields. i know that trimping can be done with other shields too but i usually find it much easier and more useful with the tide turner. i could see demoknight being flying type tho. either that or all of them are dark/poison. heavy: once again i like lonq's decision of making heavy fighting and ground. it makes sense for heavy to be fighting type and ground type also makes sense cuz hes grounded while using his minigun and hes the least mobile class. however, i'd say it makes more sense for him to be a rock type. rocks are known for being durable and strong, just like the heavy. another thing, rocks dont move, theyre static, just like the heavy while revving up. while these arguments work for things like steel too, i'd say rocks are the main thing that represent them. also he's bald just like the rock. engi: engi needs to be steel type for sure because of all his buildings and metal and him being an engineer. however, i think instead of psychic, he should be ground type. engi is mainly very idle in-game. he just hangs around his buildings and safeguards them. as such, he doesnt really move around much in the map, hes grounded, stuck to his sentry and buildings, his buildings are also stationary, locked to the ground. i think psychic type isnt really fit for him, sure hes got 11 phds and he can interact with his buildings from far away but psychic doesnt necessarily mean smart and remote control stuff dont really fit psychic. sure, it makes some sense but i think ground just fits him more medic: for medic, dark/fairy makes sense to me, when i think of fairies i think of them as magic but i also associate them with helping others just like how the medic heals and supports his team, his medibeam and uber are also sort of like magic. and dark type because dark represents corruption and evil, medic is one of, if not, the most psychotic characters in tf2. he experiments on people, steals their body parts, hes even tricked the devil himself, all evil stuff. also medic being grass type is just wrong to me. sniper: sniper is a difficult one. there arent really that many types for a marksman character. so the obvious choice is just normal like how lonq said. but i saw a comment say that dark moves usually include dirty tricks like thief and sucker punch and it made sense, sniper hides from the battlefield, he headshots people from far away, when u get close, he just jarate-bushwacka's u or quickscopes u, he charges bodyshots if he cant get headshots, even in mvm, he plays dirty, especially on bigrock. so dark type fits him. but i could see it go either way. also if this contradicts medic being a dark type, consider that evil often includes lying, deceiving, and tricking people, medic deceives people all the time in the lore to get himself out of trouble and while sniper's not exactly evil, his playstyle still involves alot of unfairness. spy: ghost/steel absolutely makes sense. spy's like a ghost, he can disappear or reappear at will, he can disguise as anyone, he can even fake his own death, all ghostly stuff. and steel makes sense too, hes the only merc (except engi) who mainly relies on his knife to get kills. his other way of killing, revolvers, are also made of steel. but i feel like the steel type should be replaced with the dark type. i already mentioned how dark moves involve dirty plays and well, spy is the king of dirty plays. he deceives, he tricks, he literally backstabs people, he is KNOWN for deceiving his opponents and at their most vulnerable, striking and instakilling them. it makes more sense to me final results: scout: flying/water or flying/x soldier: flying/fighting pyro: fire/fairy demo: demoman: fire/fighting, hybridknight: fire/steel, demoknight: steel/fighting heavy: fighting/rock engi: steel/ground medic: dark/fairy sniper: dark/x or x/x spy: ghost/dark

I think medic should be fairy and dark-type. He does heal his allies with his medigun and is best played as only a support class, while also being extremely sinister and cunning, having literally scammed satan himself by stealing all the other mercs’ souls. I think demo should be part poison type, because of his obsession with alcohol. If you think it’s bad to ignore something as massive as demoknight, I think it’s terrible to ignore something as massive as demo’s alcoholism. And the bottle is demo’s stock weapon, and is usually the best option for a melee if you aren’t playing demoknight. Poison-steel could also work pretty well, since there are a lot of steel types who learn explosion, and metal is almost always what’s used for the casing of explosives.

I personally would argue Ghost/Dark, since Steel is often a very tanky warrior type that (IMO) doesn't fit as much with Spy's more elusive, indirect gameplay where he's one of the most vulnerable classes in the game
