Thank you for sharing your videos! I like them very much. I'm very creative in mind, but when it comes to putting on paper/wood, not so much. I bought a pyrography set on Amazon, that included a lot of extra tips and a book. However, I prefer to watch videos, & I so glad I came across your video. It's cutting it close to Christmas, but wanted to try making a Santa for my mother in law, eagle for my father in law and a wolf for my niece. All ornaments though, I'm a little scared to do a big project first. After watching your video, I'm more comfortable trying. They love things done and created with heart, rather than what money can buy, if that makes sense. LoLAgain thank you so very much for sharing. Wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. More ideas or tips from anyone are welcome too, please. Thank you

Glad you like the videos Barb:) I think textures and patterns are the best way to jump into burning. Anything from stippling to a repeated stroke. It's a great way to learn how to handle the burning pen. I'll have 3 more patterns to upload in about a week....with more to come. Merry Christmas to you and all the burning community:)

Sue Walters That sounds great! Can't wait to see. My toughest part is actually transferring the design to the wood. Glad I bought quite a few testers to try first. Will be waiting for your newest patterns. :). 😉😉👍 Thanks again

Hello Sue - are you using a razortip burner. I was thinking abt getting one. Great video by the way. I make signs, using a router, and I also do stencils. I have attempted to do some wood burning and what I have done looks ok but Im sure that I can do a lot better. Right now Im using a Walmart special.

hi there your videos are so easy to view without being scary. I only just bought my pyrography kit. Do you need to use a stencil for the design, especially if you're not great at drawing freehand. What do you do if you burn a mistake is that it ruined ? Have a great Christmas

+Elizabeth Hair Hi Elizabeth, so glad you like my videos:) I would say the VAST majority of burning and crafts people use carbon paper or another means to transfer an image outline to the burning surface. You are definitely not alone in doing that....and lets face it, who wants to free hand everything when the fun bit is getting to the burning?! I have a KZitem video on removing errors here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mZWJq5agqHOdg34 I'll have many more burning tutorials coming up in the new year so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out. Regards,Sue:)

+Sue Walters Ha! I find the design and drawing the funner part, the burning is much like inking a pencil design. Great burning will only make a subpar drawing ok. A great design and drawing will benefit greatly from good burning. Good work on the videos, very comprehensive! Thank you for making them.

Each to their own, Rod:) You are probably a good drawer and find it a gratifying part of your creative process. I can also draw well and enjoy that part of my art. I equally enjoy the filling in and fleshing out. But, lets face it, a lot of people find free hand drawing an incredibly daunting prospect. It's part of my philosophy to encourage people to take up a creative hobby/art form without them feeling there are any obstacles in place. I'm glad you enjoy the videos:)

I'm really enjoying Pyrography, so far I've done a pot for mum and two key chains (I ordered a joblot and as theyre double sided I can find lots of great designs. My only trouble is getting used to the nibs, As a basic pointed one seems best but the image still comes a bit scratchy

what temperature do you use when you shade? I havea spoon shader tip for my razertip interchangeable pen and it burns so fucking inconsistently. I can't get a gradient shading at all and I honestly don't understand why...
@SueW16

ShoeMage The first issue is to please don't swear at me when asking a question. Second issue is that interchangeable pens are never as consistent as fixed tipped pens...the pens with the tip welded on. The tips attach to interchangeable pens via two screws. You have to make sure the grooves and posts of the tip are clean or the conduction won't be consistent. The posts of the interchangeable pen could also be in contact, shorting a consistent power flow. (Pry apart gently) You BPH pen could also be in need of repair. Contact Razertip if you think that is the case. For consistent, long term burning with any shader, I recommend fixed tip pens. Temperature setting has very little to do with the issue. See my post on this on facebook: facebook.com/suewalters.pyrography.5

ShoeMage I appreciate the advice, but I wasn't swearing at you. It was a curse in virtue of my frustration. In any case, I think it is to due with the fact that I'm using an interchangeable pen. The tip is inserted into the grooves in the contacts and the contacts aren't touching. The only other thing I can think of is that fact I'm plugged into an extension and not the mains socket itself. Thanks Sue.
