Might be expensive but they gotta try another shot at it. They did not have enough track-time for the driver. For the first minute it was being driven slower than the AMG-One.

I had the same thought. How would they realistically go about getting more track time? Would it be a case of dialing back the power slightly so they don't have to worry about heat and all that's related to pushing it to the nth degree in exchange for more track time between the pre/post session prep? I'd love to hear the Lotus engineers' thoughts on how they could sustain more practice time to come to grips with the car.

Hi James I’ve been a fan for over 7 years and you and the team have been absolutely killing it! Very proud of your work! Would you guys consider a new podcast? (Even with our without patreon)? I enjoyed the full chat podcast from a few years age so much! The amount of interesting people you could bring (because of your tremendous work) would be out of this world! I’m sure you won’t read this but thanks for the great content!

Very noticeable is that the Emira driven here was the AMG M139 powered 4-cylinder (i4) with its AMG 8-speed DCT gearbox. It was completely stunning and behaved flawlessly within its performance envelope. I am so glad to have put in a very early (summer 2021) order for this exact specification of the Emira, and delivery of my very own car (Dark Verdant body & Tan interior) is imminent. Looking so much forward to receiving it, and I wish that I will have the chance to drive it on the Nurburgring some day.😃 (Thanks to JWW and Lotus, to my knowledge, this video is the best driving presentation of the AMG M139 / 8 DCT version of the Emira so far.)

what is being defined nowadays as a hypercar or supercar is a joke. That thing they are racing , the X, is gutted and isnt driven on the street and passes no certs. That should just be an open class car and go against other open class cars. So it sets a record being gutted and then the street version is then said to be the fastest around the ring? smh. Not right.
@T-o-m-s
17 күн бұрын
Not at all... I don't know where you get that ? it's in no class. They just want to have one of the fastest lap and prove what the drivetrain and the chassis (the only pieces original on the car) can do without rules. And it's mighty impressive! If they want the record for the production car they have to use it to do a lap.
@Cloxxki

Hypercar started a subjective term when supercar seemed insufficient. Now WEC has a race class by that name, mostly with cars that don't have road going versions at all. This (I agree) open class car with some road car derived bits is like a Porsche GT3 race car to a 911 GT3 road car. Except the GT3 cars lap just about as fast on less than 1/3 the power and probably less than 1/4 the downforce to Evija X, both on slicks. Makes me suspect that the stock Evija road cars could be QUITE SLOW for a "hypercar" around a lap on road going tyres without all the extra aero bits running a full interior and exterior for the road...

GT3 race cars are similarly road car derived, also on slicks, but lap about as fast on less than 1/3 the power and perhaps less than 1/4 of the downforce. The GT2RS MR on ROAD TYRES just about posted the same minimum cornering speeds. Most of the time Evija X gained was on straights probably.

With that insane kind of downforce and full slicks, why is this car so "slow" even at a not bad weight at 1500kg? 🥹🤌

Electrical vehicles is a garbage technology. The one thing they do well, is local environment, like in city centers. Otherwise, the whole "environmental" side of the technology is a huge fraud. EVs (fully) are not sustainable, not environmental friendly - not even in comparison with gasoline cars -, not low on CO2 emissions, rather higher. They are extremely impractical, all the way to actually represent a potential existential threat to civilization and humankind. Because they make transportations - which we cant survive without - completely dependent upon the availability of electrical charging, which will fail, and cannot be repaired without transports. Even if we don't concern ourselves with that aspect, possible futures for EVs will have to feature completely different technologies than what are marketed to you today. Different motors, heavier and less powerful, different batteries, probably less energy dense, different wheels & tires, just to solve the sustainability and practical possibility issue. I wrote a long technical post about it, in the video featuring the Evija's lap record, also mocking it and the impracticality of the technology. It was promptly removed. Okay, I though, someone don't want anyone pissing on their parade. Fair enough, it's their video. But society today is so full of lies about almost everything, that I often despair for our future. You can't solve problems if you don't understand the problem.

With the claimed downforce+power+slicks it wasnt that impreesive of a laptime, still bloody fast off course. So was the driver not comfortable pushing it to the limits or was something else a bit off like the suspension setup?

i love james and I think we all love this video and the BTS..HOWEVER...the car and "record attempt" i dont really understand...Its not nearly on the same level as the VW IDR and that car is FIVE years old...and they try to claim its based on a "production Chassis" when its modified to hell and back...This "record" is like someone claiming a nurburgring record for having the fastest yellow car ever around the ring. they are nearly half a minute behind the 5 year old VW...wish they would have simply focused on a record for the road legal car...as this just feels like a lazier way to get headlines.
