They don't "train" as often and as much as we'd think or as they do in college. They play competitive games almost every other day and need the days off for rest. Full team practices also mostly focus on things that benefit the whole team - like playcalling and tactics - not just one individual.
@hughjass2640

The answer is simple. Most NBA coaches/front offices are actually pretty shit at developing young talent on the whole. Young players are only treated as currency until they make themselves great, or they get cut and never heard from again. Very few exceptions honestly, the NBA isn't like the NFL or MLB where coaches/managers are expected to nurture young talent.

MCW was a great player but his confidence fell off since he got traded just after winning rookie of the year, and add major injuries like hip, knee and wrist injuries. He's a great passer but cant show it because of his lack of shooting ability, if you really dig into everything he's done you can see he has NBA ability, he was in the USA National Team's tryouts or something back in 2015 and you can clearly see he did more than just hold his own. He's also a great defender, not only because of his size but also because of his Basketball I.Q. EDIT: Keep in mind he has never been in a team with good shooters besides that 2015 Milwaukee Bucks team, which he was only there for about 5 months. If you are a Point Guard and cant shoot from 3, it really hurts to play with Non Shooting wing players, I remember the only above average shooter on the Bucks was Kris Middleton, Antetokounmpo's shooting is trash, Jabari Parker cant shoot the 3 ball and the same with Greg Monroe

There was a video with Penny and Shaq about their years with the Magic. Shaq admitted that he listened to the wrong people and thought Penny was trying to take over the team so he went to LA for the money. So Penny was left to shoulder the team by himself instead of dishing it to Shaq like he was used to. And the wear and tear on his body got to be too much.

Well, two years later MCW is actually playing quite decent for Orlando Magic as a bench guard. His efficiency also improved, having a career high in TS% and win share. He kinda relies on athleticism too much and those injuries really derailed his career, but now he's given another chance in Orlando and he took it.

As someone who loved how MCW played that position at his size I was interested to watch this video until about 2 minutes is this guy says the problem is that Carter-Williams "was never that good to begin with" and intoduced it with analytics 😂😂. He says he had good numbers because he was on a team that had nothing and then criticizes his defensive numbers on the same team that had nothing to begin with which means his logic is saying he has to shoot, pass, set picks, switch, rebound, outlet, make all the rotations, guard every player on the floor and substitute for himself to "really be that good to begin with".. this is pure nonsense

I admit hopping on the Sixers Bandwagon back in 2014. Watching his debut as a Lebron fan, I was like damn this dude's gonna take Lebron's Crown. But when he got traded, shit. Then Embiid got drafted and got injured, shit. Then Noel got traded, shit. Then Okafor played good but got injured, shit. Embiid went back and got injured, shit. Simmons got drafted and got injured, shit. Saric got drafted and played for a season but the next he got injured, shit. Fultz gets drafted and got injured, shit. Okafor got traded, shit. But I'm like *TRUST THE PROCESS!* And boom. RoCo playing great this season. Red Dick playing great this season. Embiid Now without minute restriction is playing like how Wilt Chamberlain played 20,000 Girls a Night. Simmons went back and proves he deserves the World Heavyweight Championship. Markelle well.. He will comeback. Holmes boom he does good well not as good as John Cena but atleast he does good like MJ. Well I might sound like I'm on crack but you heard this first from me... Cleveland Cavaliers will sweep the Sixers in the Semifinals then Celtics will get swept and eventually Warriors will blow a 3-0 Lead.

Nerlens Noel is a great defender but he’s skinny and has no offensive skills and Jah is a black hole offensively and a liability defensively, the process was always to find SUPERSTARS I.e. Embiid, and Simmons. None of those 3 showed superstar promise.

He was on track to become one of the great PGs, dudes defense was something you couldn't compare to anyone, super athletic with great post moves, a decent shot (could've used a bit more polish though) he would've developed into an amazing player if the sixers had more faith in him, they most certainly didn't trust the process though. He lost confidence in himself after the Sixers traded him. I'd like to see him join the Pels and play along side Jrue, he seems to have a play style just like Jrue.

As a young player in the NBA it is almost normal to have a bad shooting percentage, make bad decision with the ball and make plenty of turnovers. A good organisation doesn't juge a rookie with that. A good organisation develop young players instead of waiting for the messia. The sixers srewed this young promising guard career and they almost did the same to Okafor. Some players have a better career because they were drafted by the right team who knew how to use them and make them better.

I had been saying this since 2014 before he was even traded from the Sixers. I had an argument with my friend who played college bball and is a fellow journalist. He thought Carter-Williams was a solid player and that I was overblowing some of the numbers. When you said "he had the second lowest true shooting %," I instantly knew who the 1st would be, because that's the guy I have always compared anyone who is really inefficient to. Almost every single season, a guy like this comes into the league and excites everyone, and so people fail to look beyond the raw stats. Some of the more recent examples are guys like Devin Booker, Andrew Wiggins, Deangalo Russell, etc... that people still hold on hope about because they are flashy and put up big raw numbers. Guys like Emmanuel Mudiay and MCW have already been weeded out. In my opinion, rookie shooting percentage is not as much of a red flag as high volume rookie shooting percentage is. Guys like Dennis Smith Jr. and Donovan Mitchell to a certain extent raise huge red flags to me although they're not as obvious as MCW and Mudiay's were, but people need to stop being hyped by scoring and flashiness and look at things like assists, turnovers, and volume. The Sixers have clearly done a good job of that.

He was never that good to begin with. A guard who plays a lot of minutes and dominates the ball the way MCW did his rookie year is going to put up points, rebounds, and assists. As far as the Sixers ruining prospects, that’s ridiculous. Okafor is trash, can’t defend/rebound, can’t get mins in Brooklyn. Noel is a little better, I expect he’ll carve out a niche as a defensive specialist once he’s signed by a team that wants him.

As a sixers fan he had multiple minor injuries his rookie year and more he second year plus he probably felt different after all those injuries and lost a mental edge. Combined with not being able to dominate the ball while being inefficient.
