Apparently, supply and demand doesn't apply to housing.

Agree. Corporate capitalism for basic human needs is immoral. Finally voting NDP for the first time in many years.

I think the NDP would make the demand issue a lot worse.

Last month Canada added 22 k jobs but brought in 94 k more people .. and housing lagging by the same amount. How about we close the door for 3 years. There is no way Canada can match supply to demand so rents will continue to rise. Forget bandaids like rent control .. fix the main problem. Even a 10 year old with basic math can grasp this.

Mom and pop landlords are worse in some cases. They take it beyond business and make it personal.

There is no such thing as a "financialized landlord". All landlords are businesses and seek profit. This is the dumbest one sided discussion I've ever heard. Renters in SK have the lowest rents in the country. The reason it does is because it's been friendly to investors because of low regulation. You might not like that rents are going up, but if you put rent controls in place you will absolutely hate what the future looks like. The answer is to build more supply and slow down the demand side by slowing down immigration and temp foreign workers. Rent control is the fastest way to destroy a city, outside of bombing.
