One of the arguments used in the video is "If I am not hurting any one, it is okay" and that is in reference to being hired. I think, the entire idea is being hurtful and unfair to the other candidates who are in the competition while getting hired. Let's say there are two candidates in the interview for getting hired in a firm and one of the person is only slightly more meritorious and the other one is this pretty/sensational diva and she gets the job because she has got this pretty edge because of the looks. That is so super unfair to the person who is even if just slightly better than her in the terms of merit. It is like giving 1st rank in the classroom to some one who is actually getting 2nd or 3rd because this person is more good looking. It is lame and stupid because a rank in classroom is how well you perform in the academics or whatever the respected criteria is. The good looking person in the situation here may be smart but that isn't everything, the person who actually deserves the 1st place has worked hard to be where he is and he rightfully deserves the spot. But, now the entire system is just ruined superficially.

I used to think looks never mattered before and I wanted people to look at me and think I'm smart and not pretty, but as I grew older I realized there is nothing wrong in looking good. It in fact adds more confidence. Wonderful video. Loved the discussion on both sides of the topic. 😀

It is a good light hearted short film prompting everyone to think on this aspect. It is a reality, that good looks help a person in drawing attention towards him initially. But this is his/her plus only till the time, talent / skill sets are spotted. The moment they are known, good looks take a back seat and even persons with serious ailments(let alone bad looks) but with serious skill set, are a rage.

Really liked this video. You made some great arguments on all sides. And that last snippet of showing how we all sub consciously fall for "good looks" was a great ending. I feel to each their own. What is needed is for society to collectively evolve to accept that every face is beautiful and evaluate every individual holistically. It's already happening, and will continue to. I am hopeful. PS: I find all these videos very difficult, because I genuinely think every person is good looking (unless their evil insides are reflected on their face), so it's hard to appreciate the "plain looking" character as that.

Good looks are essential only in select professions like showbiz, media (TV anchoring or hosting), front office, etc. But many employers tend to prefer hiring good looking women over better qualified women mainly due to lusty male bosses. But it's also true that many 'sleeping beauties' get ahead faster in their careers, getting ahead of more competent women who're not as easy on the eyes. Most good-looking women know when n how to leverage their looks n sexuality to get ahead, esp when they know they're not competent enough.

Around 5:30 the girl in the yellow says "she is using her looks not hurting anyone" , So what about the candidate about who didn't get hired because of her? At the end of the day men are men and women are women. What my point is, it is not illogical to use your looks it's just morally wrong. In the end it's upto the person to use their looks or not but if you use them just don't stand on a moral high ground in the end you are just as much as to blame for the things you might like.

I disagree that if you're good looking then you've to "use" it.. it may automatically work as a charm, but if you intentionally use it and smile and flirt and flip hairs or show your cleavage or whatever, men will take them as hints that you're available and are ready to exploit your beauty. Beauty, when misused, becomes a curse. And beauty without brains is a disaster! But liked the video very much as it's made very sensibly.

Beauty is the primary form of capital available to every woman. The harder they invest in it the farther they're propelled in any field. But, the average woman is often sidelined for prioritising ability to beauty and this mostly works against her favour. Society has contradictory standards and any who fails to tread that thin line falls inevitably falls into the pit. In my opinion beauty is a bad investment, no matter how hard you try to tread the line there's always a chance of failure. Especially in the workplace, when women are expected to look pretty and sound sweet this adds to the image of the sweet, docile woman in the workplace contributing to the stupid, unachievable standard set for women making it harder to climb the ladder faster. I understand the need to use beauty to get ahead but doing this makes it harder to break the glass ceiling.
