James Jamerson's bass line on the Marvin Gaye tune "What's Going On" is very laid back and very busy and syncopated at the same time. This makes it challenging to maintain the behind the beat one bar phrasing feel while nailing all that syncopation. Play over your neck pickup and don't pluck hard. The key is really knowing the line. Take your time with the rhythms and record yourself to insure you are giving the part the right "touch". Good Luck!
