The Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, France was to me aesthetically distasteful. I used to think this city is the center of great art & fine culture. The ceremony lacked focus on the essentials of the event. The frequent insertion of what seems to be woke culture of the city was disparaging & poignant. What's more, the shameless display of testicles and morally offensive drag depiction of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ was utterly outrageous. Is this France today? This France is not worth the lives of the heroes of Normandy, the blood of the French martyrs and the respect of the billions of Christians worldwide !

As a recent back-to-Catholic Christian, who used to be in constant outrage/endtimes Protestant mode, I have learned to retain faith in God’s ability to turn this and other attempts to mock God into shame. Can someone explain why I should retain anger against the world doing what the world do? I hate it, but if it were to be so that it was a mockery of the Last Supper, is it Christlike to become consumed with anger or worry? We live in a world where the young are whored out to Hollywood and immorality by even their parents, where mothers despise their unborn to the point of murder. Why would I expect a global idolatry ritual (who watches this sports stuff anyways) to NOT mock Christ?

I am French so excuse me if I make mistakes in English!!! First of all, the painting of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci was commissioned by a rich Milanese family (Italy) the Duke of Milan Ludivic Sforza in 1495 and finished in 1497. Moreover, on the paintings exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris, we can see the coat of arms of the Duke of Sforza in order to prove the greatness of this rich family. Leonardo da Vinci painted there for commercial purposes. At the Louvre Museum, this painting "The Last Supper" faces a more famous painting by the same painter > visitors from all over the world when they visit the Louvre have only one objective 99% of the time, which is to take pictures of > in front of the painting The Last Supper facing it is totally ignored by foreign visitors, Chinese, Japanese, American, Brazilian, etc. etc. It is interesting to note that it is French primary and secondary school pupils who study > as well as > by the painter Eugène Delacroix as well as French families. The Last Supper has absolutely nothing sacred, moreover this painting has never been exhibited in a cathedral, a church or any religious building. Because Leonardo Da Vinci himself was homosexual. Moreover, the painting > has been reproduced by many painters. The most similar is that of the painter Rubens in 1632 and leaves us wondering about the questioning of our faith??? .According to Georges Minois, "in a religion as ritualized as Catholicism, where everything revolves around the daily repetition of the same ceremony [...] reproducing the last meal, the Last Supper, it was inevitable that a comic deformation of this ritual would appear very early on, in the form of a parody. From the sacred meal to the farcical meal, the transition occurs very early, and this comic use of sacred tragedy is the main source of medieval laughter, which is rooted in religion. The most famous case is that of an anonymous Latin text, composed between the 5th and 8th centuries, the Cena Cypriani, or Cyprian's Last Supper. In painting! The representation of the Last Supper first has an educational value. Used in the central Middle Ages as an instrument to fight against heresies that reject the Eucharist, it only became a major iconographic theme during the Renaissance. Neither the rise of representations of the table in the 13th century, nor the strengthening of the doctrine and the Eucharistic doctrine of the Church from the Fourth Lateran Council succeeded in imposing the Last Supper as one of the great Christian images: it remains far behind, for example, the Washing of the Feet, which is next to it in the programs where it is present10. It was the 15th century, then the Counter-Reformation, that gave the Last Supper a prominent place in Western art: just think of the quasi-industrial production of representations of the Last Supper by Tintoretto in Venice. The representation of the Last Supper in art is not limited to painting, it can also be found in the arts of photography or cinema. The representations of the Last Supper show Christ and the Apostles at different times of the Last Supper depending on the artist. Concerning Queen Marie Antoinette Yes indeed, myself and my family and many French people did not appreciate it at all. The Queen never said to give brioche to the people, it would have been necessary to show the bust of King Louis XVI, the bust of Marie Antoinette and the severed head of Robespierre, the one who sowed terror during the French revolution and who was beheaded on July 28, 1794.

please guys, don't be stuck with the last supper part. Please address the promotion of abortion, homosexuality and polyamory displayed in prime time. The Catholic church in France is very weak, ex. abortion limit was moved from 12 weeks to 14 weeks because of covid, and was not restored, and I am not aware that the Church in France did anything to denouce it. Euthanasia will be the first thing the new parlament is gonna vote. The fact that the French keep this persident and his party in power for years now, does not give any reason for optimism whatsoever.

Hi Catholic Answers, can you explain what aspects of the scene made it obvious that The Last Supper was being mocked, rather than ad others have said that the inspiration may have been the painting The Feast of the Gods? Both paintings have similar elements to them, so I'm curious as to which part of the scene itself made it so obvious it was the Last Supper instead of The Feast of the Gods?

Not sure why CA is repeating the idea that this was a depiction of the last supper when that has already been debunked by the authors of the ceremonies. It was inspired by a painting of the olympian gods as was not intended as an offence against any religion according to them. This video seems dated because they said the ceremony hasn't been aired yet Hopefully they will update it with current information. The ceremy was still deplorable but at least lets get our info correct.

I'm undecided on the inspiration, based on: -Thomas Jolly the creator of the entire show said he didn't use the Last Supper as inspiration, rather he used an Olympian inspiration -A few of the people in the scene said the Last Supper was the inspiration -A producer said it was the inspiration -Olympic apology seemed to say it was not the inspiration Main overarching sticking point is most of the commentators on this scene immediately say it was obviously a mockery of the Last Supper without explaining how it's obvious. I've engaged charitably to see if anyone would explain, but I've had no success there so far. Many seem to hand wave away specific aspects when comparing too: -Why does thr character count not match with the scene and the Last Supper? -What does the 7 point halo/crown/headpiece symbolize, and how does that relate to/mock Christianity? -Why is there a child in the scene when none were in the Last Supper painting? -If any painting were used as a source for this scene, how could one distinguish the style of posing the people are doing from one painting to another (some insist they're posed like the Last Supper poses)? -What does Dionysius showing up have to do with Christianity and the Last Supper?

GOD THE RESURRECTOR: God the Father is the only one never to die. God resurrected Jesus, and everyone will be resurrected into eternal life or into eternal damnation. But the power and spirit that resurrects belongs to God the Father alone. God's power and spirit within Jesus is what raised him from the dead. God the Father, the Redeemer and LORD of hosts, said in Isaiah 44:6; “I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” Yes, God's power and spirit controls Jesus's entire being; his every word and action (John 12:49-50). This is why Jesus said the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do (John 5:19). It is God’s power and spirit alone that takes control of Jesus; and it is that same power and spirit of God the Father that must be in us if we are to reach His kingdom.
