Being a member of Soundcloud that is moving away from Soundclown (user Lovebutt♥) I want it to be clear to everyone that Soundclown kinda sucks. Yes, it's clever, it's new(ish), it's a way of teaching information like joke telling or just basic conversation construction. It's cool that it's going back to concepts of passing down information and important concepts one by one like our ancestors used to, but the fact that it goes through the internet means that a single concept can get boring and overdone to a point of annoyance in a day. People who have been a part of Soundclown for a while should remember the "Cool Guy" meme use which ran dry in less than a day. People often complain that Soundclown is a byproduct of Soundcloud, where real music is shut out by funny jokes and a much quicker system of media. It's only nice (to me) in an addictive sort of way, which doesn't have to be a bad thing, but given how hard it is to escape the community without creating a new account makes it unwanted by many.

The Soundclown stuff actually fits in pretty nicely with some of the more prevalent themes in post-modern art, where everything has been done before and there's no such thing as a genius/savant artist (aka anyone can be an artist). The material and the ideas (to an extent) that are used aren't precisely original and it's stuff anyone can do, so instead of comparing them to folk music, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say they're art.
@FizzyK-45

Yes, finally you talk about SoundClown... I think SoundClown is just like KZitem Poops (like you said), but instead of working on video source you work with music or sounds... This type of music is folk music in the sense that it combines all of the aspects of the internet into songs. The actual difference is that folk music of years past (Bob Dylan, John Lennon) tried to change parts of the culture they thought was wrong. Soundclown is just Macklemore on LSD

I honestly don't think it is folk music by any stretch, but it is certainly an interesting thought. I feel that folk is supposed to represent a generation of people, but this is something completely different. As someone who wanted to be a soundclown since I heard my first airhorn remix, I feel like these are simply to have fun, not to tell a story, but to take something and turn it into your own.

soundclowns are not internet folk music -truth in the same way real folk music strives for truth. sound clowns are scathing commentaries on the mainstream and the over-used nature of media. they call to attention the pointlessness of trying to make something new and how so many artists just give up despite their skill and talent: how no matter how new and fresh you try to make something, the lowest common denominator will always prevail. my favorite albums are Mouth Sounds, The Baby is You and Lonerism

Soundclown seems more like contemporary Dadaist music than folk aesthetically, but I would agree that Dadaism and Folk share a ideological contempt for the bourgeoise. The biggest difference is that folk's approach is more constructive in that it tends to valourize the working class and promote discussion of everyday injustices. Whereas Dadaism just likes to stir shit up and promote disgust, disdain, and all round lunacy. I wouldn't mind seeing you do an episode on the legacy of early avant garde art, music, and literary movements pervading contemporary culture. For example, Negativland style sampling is just an extension of Marcel Duchamp's Readymades. Sound Poetry would also be an interesting episode idea. It's been around for over a century, but most people I talk to about it have never heard of it. Great channel. Keep up the good work!

So I have actually been watching The Newsroom, and I didn't find it too bad. Yes, it was a bit melodramatic at times, but it is rather well-structured and well-written, as is expected of an Aaron Sorkin show. But I wondered why Sam was so negative about it... It was then where I found out about the identically-named, unrelated Canadian show, which was apparently one of the best T. V. shows that Canada has ever produced. So now I've been interested more in finding that show. I was a big fan of the likes of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Royal Canadian Air Farce, and DaVinci's Inquest (big jump, I know)... The CBC in my opinion really was the best channel available on bare-basic cable from across the border in the mid-2000s. So I'd like to take a page from the Canadian playbook and say on behalf of sometimes seemingly uncaring Americans... Sorry.

I'm curious if you thought about mentioning Neil Cicierega who makes some things I'd define as legitimate mashups. Weird mashups, sure, but legitimate ones. Like Crocodile Chop or Piss. But some of his stuff like some of the Shrek stuff and Friends is more weird soundcloud like. Even his legitimate mashups have an air of weird soundcloud about them. In some ways I think he might be a big influence in the rise of weird soundcloud stuff (I'm actually not sure when he started doing this stuff but I feel like it was longer ago than weird soundcloud being a thing)

To me, I feel the reason people call him a hipster, is because of the way he adorns two accessories that are flashy and represent different fields of interest, and because these accessories on his head and face are relatively large. I feel it is much less hipster to wear a snapback or ray ban glasses, but with both (and bright, clean looking clothes) they contribute to the stereotypical new-age hipster look. The thing is though, many hipsters know this and in the end it is a good look! The best way to adopt the look is to deny it's existence when asked but dress in pants, cool shoes, a button up, and rayban glasses and you will probably look decent without having to think about the annoying world of fashion, I mean you are a male anyway. And most fashion trends just trickle down from the wealthy who have rich, and beautiful people doing it first, showing the way.
