Mont Bell is where it's at! Wild to see that old Zpacks logo! Question: If you were given a chance to swap out your Zpacks gear for Hyperlite Mountain Gear, would you make the switch or would you stay with your existing gear?

Regarding the chance to swap out Zpacks to HMG, at this time I will say, stay with what has been successful for me over the many years of using. Yes, Zpacks is expensive compared to other brands, but none of the gear has failed me yet. I’m a believer in you get what you pay for. Not an indictment on HMG by any means…. I’ve always had a pleasant experience with Team Zpacks and they have taken care of my needs through the years. With all of that being said, I’m not opposed to HMG and I believe the competition is good b/t companies to bring new or updated technologies to the market for the consumer to have a choice. I don’t own any HMG gear, and would be open to obtaining said gear, if need arises… but for now, I have what I need to be successful in “my hikes.” Lastly, I tend to chose reputable brands that are the lightest I can get, while still accomplishing the application. For example, I didn’t chose the Zpacks trekking poles of the umbrella, because in my research for my needs, Montbell & Black Diamond were better suited for my needs & desires. While Zpacks is a brand I have a good number of items from, I do tend to examine their offerings first, because of my history with them and they were a pioneer in the UL space, I do compare against ALL other brands. Great question! Thanks for getting me to think about it. - JBH

I did it in the “What’s in your ditty-bag” video. I have a BRS3000 stove, small fuel canister that I refill for trips, & a Toaks 550mL titanium pot. My ditty-bag has many small items that I decided to segment it off into its own vid. Thanks for watching and asking. Be blessed! -JBH

I know it’s not about hiking but I’d love to hear about the journey from your “previous life” you mentioned to where you are now. My family and I are all graduates of UNA and my son did Exercise Science in prep for his DPT.

Prior to getting my Master’s from UNA , I finished at Auburn in SportsMed. While in Florence, I worked for Healthsouth doing high school sportsmed /ath training outreach and would refer into North Alabama Bone & Joint Ortho Clinic. After I completed my graduate studies, I move to Bham and got a job doing the same thing, except for Baptist-Montclair. Referred into a specific ortho surgeon and started assisting him in the clinic/surgery. I was working toward becoming a Board certified Orthopedic surgical assistant when the sales-bug bit me. I jump into med sales for 15 years until 5 years ago when I scoop away by a industrial/construction sales company. Been doing that for 5 years now and I don’t think I’ll go back to medical… unless some dumps a wheel barrow load of money at my feet…haha. There’s my journey…
