I think the kind of water you have (hard vs soft) plays a huge role in what you find in your dreads. I have very hard water where I live, when I cut open a year and a half old dread I saw a some white powder-like stuff inside. It didn't really have a smell to it or anything, but it did have a weird consistency. I never used wax or anything, and mostly use baking soda and apple cider vinegar to wash them. Did deep cleans every few months, dried them the best I could, but I think there was just too much junk in our water. I duno, just my 2 cents on the subject.
@TheMamakittylove
7 жыл бұрын
The white residue was probably baking soda that didn't fully disintegrate in your hard water. I always boil my water first or if I'm doing a baking soda clean I actually buy water specifically for it.
@BrianPremo
7 жыл бұрын
I definitely think baking soda is part of the residue. I used to run the water through a Brita water filter, which is fine for the main bowl that I use to wash my hair, but it's hard to rinse it all out with filtered or boiled water since there just isn't enough water in the bowl for a thorough rinse - so I felt like it wasn't doing me much good since the end rinse has to be done with the shower head / hard water.
@yungelians6906
7 жыл бұрын
So you put baking soda in your hair but you think the white residue is from water 🤦🏽♂️
@BrianPremo
7 жыл бұрын
There is white residue on the shower head as well (where no baking soda touches). I'm not saying it's not baking soda, or not partially baking soda - but our water definitely leaves a white residue behind with or without baking soda involved.

Hey, i was wanting to see if i could pick your kind a bit (or anyone that can give helpful advice) im starting on my dreadlock journey and i am a little scared that my hair may not get knots, im legit on my first day right now, so I haven't given up hope in the slightest, but all throughout my life, i rarely ever get knots in my hair, i could literally go weeks without touching a brush and i would only get a couple (if any) knots in my hair, i did my first baking soda and ACV treatment today, and i was wondering if there are any other remedies to help get my hair to the texture needed to get dreadlocks (im wanting to do freeform locs) im a white male and have straight, silky, blonde hair (wavy at the ends if i grow them out) my hairs at about 5 and a half inches more or less, thanks for any help! love your videos!

Hello, Lazy Dreads :) I am planning to have dreadlocks soon and i have a question. For quite a while I have been using the no poo method to wash my hair. This means i wash with ONLY water 100%. My question is would that affect my future dreads or I can continue washing like this? Thank you in advance and brilliant channel btw i love it :) stay chilled
@kiiabby

I think if that's been working for you, then it's probably okay to continue with dreadlocks. The main thing is to keep your scalp happy I suppose! If you feel they need something more to clean them, maybe try and find a really natural shampoo that has no sulphates etc x

Sooo uhh I I've started my dread journey about a week ago and when I got curious about what I should do to take care of them, of course I googled it😂. Anywhooooo I ventured onto a web page about how to take care of young dreads and found that it said to palm roll them with aloe vera gel every day for the first two weeks. I have done it since I've read that article and I was just curious as to if this can harm my dreadlocks even though I've noticed that they are locking tighter and looking more like dreads everyday.🤔 it would mean so much to me if you could help me out, much love💜.

Watch more (if not all) of his videos. @lazydreads is the perfect person to take advice from. Dreads are a process. I wouldn't recommend putting any products in them to hurry up that process. Squeaky clean hair is the best way for it to grow and promote dreading on its own. Wash your hair in natural, residue free, dread shampoo to get that gel out and leave them alone. Wash your hair the same amount you did before you got dreads. Mine are locking up super fast and I wash them every other day. Just make sure they are completely dry before you go to sleep. I have silky straight native American hair so it is difficult for it to get started but I just leave them alone and wash them and trust me, it will happen. I don't even palm roll. Good luck!!!

you have beautiful dreads! i guess the amount of 'dirt' in dreads does really depend on the person. i have heard of people who only shower like 1-2 a month and that just cant be clean? i shower my dreads every second day!
@elegy8310
6 жыл бұрын
I've trimmed dreadlocks for two different friends. One had very clean locks like yours. He showered frequently and all that jazz. The other friend was a crust punk traveler type dude. He wanted his front dreads trimmed off and sewn to the back to create a long dread mullet. His were DISGUSTING. They were full of dead skin/clumped up sebum, pieces of dirt and dead foliage and a few dead bugs - dessicated beetles and flies, not lice at least. And he still insisted on sewing them back onto his head. He rarely showered and I don't think he washed his hair every time he did shower. I think (like any type of hair) the cleanliness of dreadlocks is just dependent on that individual's personal hygiene, lol.
