You can turn any binocular or camera into a microscope just by holding a magnifying lens in front of the objective lens. I use a lens from a salvaged spotting scope with a pair of compact binoculars to make a field microscope. Gives about 18X power at about 6 inches. I get a pair of binoculars and a fairly good inspection microscope for hiking just for the weight of the lens. :)

New channel concept: "Julian Looks Inside". Lots o' potential. For starts, can you look inside a bee, a plum pit, eye of a mouse, a child's tooth, a firecracker? Given how inexplicable women are today, I'd actually donate to support you looking inside one of them. Probably be multi-episode, owing to their relative largeness. You'll need Blu-tack to hold one still while you look inside. Aussie MickMake says he doesn't use Blu-tack to hold children still, because it tends to get in their hair.

The over centre mechanism is a 'toggle action' mechanism, some people think the toggle switch only refers to the lever style switch, but if you think about it, a J-K flip flop is a toggle.
@GordieGii
7 жыл бұрын
I guess toggle is lay-speak for hysteresis. (the term snap-action is also used)
@sparkyprojects
7 жыл бұрын
Nope, hysteresis is the difference between when a contact opens and closes. A typical thing is a room thermostat, it may turn on at 20C and off at 21C, a larger hysteresis would be turning on at 20C and off at 25C On industrial thermostats the hysteresis is adjustable. toggle means that it's solidly in one position or the other.
@GordieGii
7 жыл бұрын
Well hysteresis can be used to describe an amount (ie how far apart the turn on and turn off points are) or simply the fact that the value is non-zero. It doesn't simply refer to temperature. It is also used to describe the difference in voltage a circuit, like a Schmitt trigger or the turn on and turn off distance of a proximity sensor or the difference in the turn on and turn off positions of the actuator of a snap action switch. So a toggle switch refers to a switch that has mechanical hysteresis as opposed to one that doesn't, like a knife switch or a common industrial push-button switch. So the words are not exact synonyms but they are different ways of referring to the concept of hysteresis.

Temperature was just an example that's simple to understand for most, and yes, there's a lot of examples i could have used.

Including one detail I have wondered about: just before switching there would be no contact pressure, how does that affect switching?
@GordieGii

The spring is probably bronze. As for the contacts, phosphor bronze is resistant to welding.

Blow it up! I would like to see how much current it can handle (if it's not 125V@1A) maybe a medium size motor (12V@2A) can work well. Thanks for your videos!

almost the same kind of switches are used in computer mice,red plastic thing means harder to press than white,but the real stuff is made by omron,and those can handle 3 amps if I remember correctly

The material is a spring brass for good fatigue life plated with nickel/silver alloy for conductivity and also the corrosion is conductive. The good model railroad tracks are made of or plated with nickel/silver alloy for the same reasons. The switch may be rated 1A@125VAC but the DC rating will be significantly less as DC does not have a zero point to stop the arc. I once had to replace a motor contactor rated at 40A@250VAC when I used it for 10a@90VDC and it almost exploded. A plastic chamber full of plasma is exciting.
@GordieGii

Some large DC contactors and circuit breakers use magnets on either side of the contact to 'blow' the arc sideways.

These are the kind of switches in the average computer mouse. You can modify it to make your click quieter by very slightly bending the top connection part down to shorten the distance that the toggling metal piece has to move. Definitely try on an old mouse first though so you don't break your good one.
