i had a great conversation with all of you in live chat. stay safe, safe riding all. what i think about motorcycle industry, hmm. what i see in my country, more developer push more on scooter design. like the Honda ADV, Yamaha NMax and more Cub design. since the price and roadtax of bike that over 250cc in Malaysia kinda expensive, so not even many male rider with high power bike. interesting why motorcycle design like cub and scooter is popular here, because people use it go work and it is easy wearing everyday attire and office attire with these type of bike. people here, men and woman still wear traditional clothes and ride motorcycle, no problem with scooter or cub. in my opinion, superbike design or naked bike or even easy rider will always be the special bunch of people riding it, even those rider call them self normal rider or normee, hehe, it can never be normal for other people. for the topic of woman specific design clothes for rider, even more special, even more specific and obviously cost more, probably. so, what ever woman do, riding obviously, it will still turn people head and gaze.what ever bike they are riding, scooter, cub or super/naked bike. still, where ever in this world, people still consider bike is dangerous..hahaha.

I’m on a scooter with a teeny tiny channel. Why on Earth do I get criticism for not wanting to do more than basic maintenance?! No one gives me grief if I take my car to a mechanic or don’t mod it. I ride because it’s fun + get to work. That’s it. I won’t start on the clothing, but it has improved since I started riding.

Enjoyed the video. My wife has encountered the majority of this....initially she couldnt find stylish and protective gear until she found atwyld here in SoCal. We were one of their first customers and have purchased 3 jackets and numerous armored gear to keep them around since. Also when she went to purchase her first bike a Triumph Street twin our local OC Motorcycles told her that she couldn't test ride the bike because she was a woman. I had to write them a bad review and call them out in order to speak with their owner and explain to him that we wouldn't be doing buisness with them any longer if they are sexist.

Also LOOOVED the points about communing. I’ve always said it would be so much safer if motorcycles had their own lane! I am a female motorcyclist and my goodness, it is scary out there. I don’t commute as often as I used to on my bike, but I would more if I felt like it was safer generally to ride. And even drivers here in CA, where lane splitting is legal, most drivers DO NOT respect motorcyclists and do not share the road. AND USE YOUR BLINKER!!!!! Blinkers save motorcyclists!!!

Lotta good stuff in the video. Agreed with normalizing biking! A lot of people and families have two cars, why not trade one of them for a bike? Most people just drive themselves around and only rarely carry more than they can fit in a backpack. Realistically bikes should be the norm, not cars. And connected with the idea of seeing gear made in more sizes is bikes being offered in more sizes too. Kawasaki has their ergo-fit system on the Vulcan S (which seems a strange place to implement it seeing as it already has a low seat height), but it would be great to see more custom fit options available.

When I first bought my motorbike my female friend said "oh, very manly" I felt a little sad when she said that. She's a feminist as well, kind of supprised she'd say something like that. Many women ride, no reason they shouldn't. I almost felt like she was self handi capping or limiting other people with that view. Does that make sense? My brain isn't working great today. I get dragged into these gender wars and I hate it. Sometimes I wish I could morph into a genderless blob.

The sad truth is that motorcycling is more dangerous now than ever due to inattentive drivers (how many "drivers" have you seen watching videos instead of watching the road?) and women are generally speaking more risk averse than men so there will likely always be more male motorcyclists. It's ok though, motorcycle chicks are rare and thereby much cooler when you do meet them.

great talking points. one thing about lane filtering (legal in California, Nevada, and just recently Montana) is that the education is for both car drivers AND motorcyclists. because weaving at 20+ above the speed limit on the freeway is not lane filtering. lane filtering is specifically a low speed, slow traffic maneuver. but the driver/rider education in the USA is abysmal. but if you raise the standards people will complain about "freedom" so that wont' change any time soon.

Motorcycle Gear sucks in general because it's such a niche market that it breaks the standard inventory control model that is in use by manufactures in general. And because it's such a niche market there is not enough money involved to incentivize the market competition that would drive R&D cost reductions for decent quality, cheap gear. Unless there is something that causes a major cultural change to drive the mainstream populous towards motorcycle riding(in the US), I think for now we will be stuck with the classic dilemma where, you can pick three out of four options; cheap, comfortable, expensive, or "safe"(style/fashion seems to be pure luck of the draw of what you can find vs what fits you). Most innovations I have seen in motorcycle gear can mostly be contributed to trickledown effect from racing or from companies(like Klim) that have been successful at selling four-digit costing gear and in both cases I don't think "casual" is even a word in their lexicon. Also, people don't think about it much but, hearing protection is also very hard to get right for motorcycle riding and I think it's often completely overlooked but, very important

I wish gear was more tailored when it comes to it. so sending in all measurements and get stuff that fits properly.. from belly to chest to butt to inseam (crotch to ground) to shoulder width to armpit to finger tip. this is something I would be willing to wait for.. like get sized - then in 2 weeks get gear sent to your house and booommm you can then just order different styles etc. would work out for all humans :) .. as for women riders I wish there were more.. I try to show so many (men or women) the great things of riding and why more need to do it.. and yes LANE filtering traffic stopped (from a light or from an accident or bad traffic) should be legal. once speed gets up to 15 to 20 plus then we should merge in and become apart the traffic. anyway . keep up the great content cheers.

What you said about tailoring is so true and applies to both genders and all apparel. We have technology now to make bespoke clothing an economic option for all people, but we are not implementing it. It seems like 15 - 20 years ago there was a lot of buzz about body scanning and getting clothing made to order but it just fizzled out. When it comes to motorcycle gear it is going to be particularly challenging to accomodate women in the ready to wear, off the rack, mass production scheme that is how most of us buy all our clothes. Women’s body shapes are more complicated than men’s and there is more variation in proportions. Off the rack has never worked well for us. Add to that that gear is by it’s nature much bulkier than regular clothing and is made of rigid material with no give. It’s a very difficult problem.

I think motorcycle dealers should have more bike nights & riding day events, which I think are always a good thing for women or men to then see new bikes and bike accessories etc and get interested in riding more if their not a rider. Bummer lane filtering is not legal there. It's only been legalised where I live in the last few years. I luv the autumn / winter bike riding season as per the humidity in Summer is superhot where I live and not nice riding. I thought you turned into a ghost 👻 for a minute when u disapeared lol . The driver of a "normal" family car doesn't seek out other car drivers to watch their KZitem videos, join thier Facebook groups, meet, socialise, attend events. Be careful what you wish for when asking for the "normalisation" of motorcycling. It's the fact we are niche minority with something in common which makes us what we are, there's plenty of non-rebel sub cultures as you said at the beginning of the video, which new riders can get into. I've been riding 29 years, I've never once worn a leather cut and don't have a single tattoo, I'm just a normal guy who has a niche passion.

I work at a motorcycle shop where we take used gear in on trade and over the 14 years I’ve been there, plus the 32 years I’ve been riding, I’ve gotten to try a lot of gear! I have very long arms and legs and yet a short waist, so I’ve been wearing a lot of men’s size small or medium gear that I could make use of. Thankfully the one brand of ladies gear that I now have 3 different jackets is Joe Rocket. The arms are long enough and the fit is pretty true to me for sizing ,which is women’s Large. That being said, the one thing that annoys me most about most women’s gear is the super tiny pockets! Why do men’s jackets get the bigger pockets , when clearly they have less to carry with them then a woman? 🤔 LOL 😂

-The tribalism thing applies to cars too. You can still have basic cars for commuting. But you have so many sub-cultures(Tribes) of cars. Lowriders to Raised trucks to Drifting, etc. It can be that way with motos as well. No need to get rid of the tribalism -Commuting, I agree. Some people just want to commute. I have a Dyna and a 300cbr. When I got the 300 people kept insisting I will be bored of it, that it's a mistake, bla bla bla. I got it to commute. Not everyone wants to go 150mph all the time. Besides, half the people with liter bikes don't get the chance to use it to its full potential 90% of the time. - I try to always buy casual looking gear. Hoodies.... kevlar shirts.... Jean/ Chino moto pants. I agree it's either too old school cruiser-ish or too space age rocket-ish

Why don't you get one of your strong/educated/independent/wealthy female leaders to start a motorcycle company that will meet the needs of the female rider? Motorcycle companies aren't going to change their production line to meet the needs of a few ladies... it's not their job or responsibility. And it's definitely not gonna sell more motorcycles. The fact that people are upset that you are speaking from the perspective of a female rider is sad because the female experience should be acknowledged given the fact that the sport of motorcycling is predominantly male. The minority (female) experience is one that should continue to be discussed because women, like myself (I started riding a year ago) that are starting out need this information as the experience is unique. Now regarding the video 😃 I like that you mentioned rider types & riding styles because riding is very diverse as well, & I get people ALL THE TIME “screaming pop a wheelie,” or “post meetups or group rides,” neither of which I do. The diversity in riding is definitely a necessary discussion that should also be had in larger cities as well regarding road regulations. You’ve also given me gear ideas as well, so thank you for that ☺️ Awesome video💪🏽

Meghan Great video and interesting topic. Women riders are the fastest growing demographic according to the industry. To attract more women riders, the most powerful way to do that is for media providers such as YOU, gather together with each other and create ways to get the news out to other potential women riders and to the mainstream media. At this very moment, there are scores of women teetering on the fence and just need a nudge over the edge. Women riders like YOU need to create more women riders. Motorcycle riding is not a fashion, it is a way of life once involved. Manufacturers will probably never market bikes specifically for women. No matter what they did it would somehow go down the SEXIST rabbit hole. There are women that ride every motorcycle known to humankind. They make machines in all shapes and sizes. Pick one that fits! As far as gear goes, women's gear is lacking in the range of choices and style and safety. Not that I shop for women's protective gear, it is nowhere near the choices us guys have. I hope you contacted the folks we talked about because this is EXCACTLY what they want. Input for style/function and design from women riders like YOU! Again, great video Meghan! Peace. Ride SAFE and BE safe Lady! 🙌👏🤙👌👍🖖✌👋🌹

Until more mainstream magazines employ females and encourage their input little will change. Why would you ignore/belittle almost 50% of your possible market. Think on how much gets spend on princesses little pony, and accessories! The sexist/misogyny attitude/practice needs to be looked at, addressed and challenged. I'm fortunate to have been a member for 20+ years of Edinburgh and District Advanced Motorcyclists or EDAM, we have approx 25% membership are female perhaps 5% are advanced trainers too, I have not seen any sexist attitude here, but certainly have in other groups. I'm not overweight, more underheight, 5'7" 29" inside leg and ride a R1200GSA. I have lots of friends who ride, some happen to be female. Here in Scotland we can filter, and is open to discussion, where safe. Commuting can make personal safety, by not having to use public transport, with any attendant risks.
