The infrastructure and houses already make Ethiopia look like a middle income country. I'm 52 now and I'll bet in my lifetime Ethiopia will become a High Income Country at this rate:-))

OK,i donot get a word of this, but i love the voice of the lady. God, i could spend the whole day listening to her.
New infrastructure like this has certainly painted a new picture of Africa for me. It is showing me that Africans are prepared to put aside their tribal and national differences for the good and well being of the whole continent. Sure this is a small step, but it is certainly one in the right direction to propel Africa forward into it's bright new future. Congratulations to Ethiopia for showing the way forward.

bushranger51 Has much as its good news their is so much bad news involved with this. If u haven't realised the conductors of the train and railway are all Chinese workers. This means Chinese government are getting more out of this investment then the Ethiopian government and people. All this railway does is give more Chinese people jobs and helps solve their population crisis by importing their population overseas into Ethiopia to work and live their. In some parts of Ethiopia i wouldn't be surprised if they start replacing the actual Ethiopia population.
Ethiopia is a shining example to us all: From Zero to Hero. Ethiopian People have never been occupied by any other force,. The Chinese will not do this. The Americans have not got a Chance in Hell. Some people say Ethiopia will become the Japan of Africa. I think this will come true as the people seem to have quite esoteric aspirations. They have demanded a sustainable railway be built despite a fragile power supply and this has happened. The legacy is that of the Ethiopians: They defined the railway and they made it happen. My oldest daughter now aged 15 wants to live in your country possibly as a student first at a university in Ethiopia

G0IMB Only problem is that recently I've read an article about mass movement of Chinese citizens into African countries that have economic partner ship with African countries (e.g Ethiopia, Tanzania etc). China does have a reason to heavily invest into these countries for as they know they will receive tremendous profit from Africa at the expense of these African countries. Arab and Asian countries are already by farm land from Ethiopia etc to send back to their own countries this takes land from the native people and leaves them starving as they have no land left to feed themselves with. In my opinion the main reason why this railway is being belt using large foreign workforce is so that China get directly sends Ethiopia's raw minerals and farm products to Djibouti from which they can transport it using the Djibouti port directly to China. I don't see the African people profiting from this only the government.

I agree totally. Africa is the last continent on the cusp of great things. Ethiopia has one of the strongest economies in Africa and will continue to grow. I am happy more companies are opening in Ethiopia....the people deserve this....

Li Dia I can respect that but at the same time you have to realize African countries destroyed by kindness in the past. It's starts with friendship then it turns into a takeover, from military, to economics, to language, to culture and customers, to leadership & regeme change. I called the silent take over. Also known as colonization is what Africans have been victims of in the pass. If China wants to be partners with Africa they have to respect African grounds help the African people not trick them out of their or try to take it by force. As long as China Dont try to take over the identity of Africa the relationship between China and Eithiopia will blossom.
Ethiopia will be successful when Eritrea will join them.

tplg sold the whole country to chainise. this is not ethiopia property its chainise properties. why the chainise need to drive the train ?if its really the ethiopian government own it it should reserve the job for ethiopians first. now we only see most project been awarded to the chainise companies and when they done all those projects they put their people's to work on those companies. the addis light rail, the ethio jebuti rail line, the ethiopian shipping lines, the ethiopian airlines, the federal land and mining agency ,etc ...............all of them fully or partly occupied by chainise people.

Negussca Haile Get your facts accurate. No project not even a single one is run fully 100% by Chinese not even 50%. They're there because, they've invested major portion of the project and they want things to transition smoothly. Stop complaining. You would have no issues if those Chinese were whites. Last I checked Europe and America gave up on us as far as developments. Be thankful for what you got. The Chinese won't be there once they have trained us and things are running smoothly. China is never about dominance. They're vested interest is long term business dealing. And they will not abandon us once they've return they're investment capital.

Sam Maher. what fact you need more than this? all those companies that i stated on my first comment are owned party or more by chainise. recently the ethiopian government authoritys talking the chainise companies has bought 49% of the shipping lines stake. you will continue to here the truth one by one in the future.

The blind nationalism and populism would only do you harm, it's violent and blind. Only the countries who respect others and willing to learn can make progress on development, and achieve success. We understand, that based on your history, it's difficult for you to trust any outsiders, and we took the rise anyway. But it's not enough, if you don't open yourself to the world, don't to try understand others, let your prejudices go, make peace to the world, you will be isolated from the modern world. Why don't western countries try to invest in your country? It because the risk is too high, they afraid that they could loose everything overnight. And the risk was exactly came from this kind of ideology, nationalism, populism, racism, hatred. If you make outsiders afraid, you will never get the technology they could offer, which is the key to enter the modern world, to prosperity.
