Just got a 2024 Outback. Definitely not a performance car, especially with the non-turbo engine, but that's not why I got it. It's a quiet smooth riding car that handles very well. I do wish a few of the functions that are on the 11 inch screen were available as buttons or knobs, but you can adapt easily to them being on the touch screen. Bottom line is that I am very happy with the Outback.

That's good to know. For me it came down to the minimal towing capacity and meh MPG for the Outback vs CRV Hybrid (pretty much zero towing except for a hitch mount bike rack- which while zippy to drive was surprisingly underwhelming and I'm used to the lower to the ground feel. So Outback it is. Now we just have to find a dealership that doesn't make me cringe so hard my back hurts. lol

First thing I did when I got my 2015 Outback new was order the sheepskin seat covers from Costco. 8.5 years later the drivers side cover is beat up, and I plan to wash them then switch sides putting them back on. The sheepskin seat covers not only protect the upholstery but also insulate the seats from hot and cold very well and add a more comfortable soft touch. I am waiting out a correction in the automotive market to add a new Outback while keeping the old one. Good job of reviewing the Outback. Glad Mason is able to give us a real-world measurement of the length of the cargo area with his handy dandy tape measure. Subaru gives a measurement of 75 inches, but you never know where the front seats are located when they take that measurement. I know with you the measurement is done with the front seat positioned for Drew, who is a normal height person and close to my height. So the 78 inch measurement you come up with is the number I'm looking for.

I just got a 2024 Limited XT, I had the 2020 before. They made great strides with this one. Wireless smart phone connections, heated steering wheel is now 100% around the steering wheel and the heated seats are easier to work (no second pop up screen). I got the remote start on this new one, it is disappointing that it requires a second FOB (the main FOB also auto starts but you have to be really close for it to work). That remote start system is an extra $370.00 USD but in Canada where I am, the cost is $710.00 CAD ($522.00 USD). They should ask me to put my hands in the air when they sell it because it does feel like I am being robbed for that system!

That said, I just generally find the features and performance of other vehicles better (like my current 2016 Mazda CX-5). I just sold my 2020 outback XT as they will not allow customers to update software remotely and spending 2-3 hours at a dealership every time you want to update to try and address glitches is not acceptable. Also if you want the upgraded sound system you better do it at the day of purchase. Subaru corp is saying they are not allowing rockford fostgate upgrades only new purchases on the date of sale. The stock audio system ... um yep its stock... the harmon is very Nice but be aware its only on specific trims. One other thing... There’s a lot of foolish comments on here . Firstly, before you make rash judgements go and drive the Outback - it is one of the best reliable cars that are made today. If you want more power try the turbo- oh it’s boring? Drive that and you be shocked. Station wagon boring? Oh and having a SUV like 95% of Americans is not boring? Subarus all wheel drive is awesome - with snow tires it handles any snow and never gets stuck. The cladding is for off road - branches and stones wrecking your paint. The leather seats are excellent and since it’s long the car rides very smooth. I throw 3 big dogs in the back and it goes anywhere. It’s a great practical car - just disable the Auto Start it’s horrible!

Mazda doesn't give you way more power for less price. The turbo 2.5L in current Mazda lineup have 10 less hp and 40 more peak torque, which gives a 0-60 within 0.1s of the turbo 2.4L in the Outback. On regular fuel, the Mazda is actually slower by an estimated 0.4s for 0-60. The price for a similar spec'd Mazda turbo and Outback turbo is within 5% here. Now let's start on the Mazda's shortcomings: torsion bar rear suspension, non full-time AWD, needing premium fuel to reach those performance numbers (regular fuel results in a noticeably slower vehicle than the 2.4L turbo in the Subaru), and much decreased visibility all around.

I'm sorry but the new updated trim/cladding is straight up ugly imo. I'm really hoping they dial it back for 2025!

Cvt is cvt Cvt is dumb The transmission remains dumb, slow, limiting the engine's power and the overall performance of the car. I don't understand the policy of Japanese companies. They manufacture good and reliable dual-clutch transmissions and rely solely on CVTs

@@takibarghan6742 The CVT helps with fuel efficiency. According to Carfax, one of the most significant advantages to having a CVT is that they are often more fuel-efficient than a regular automatic. This is part of the reason that they are becoming a more popular choice for automakers in many vehicles.

@@takibarghan6742 Oh OK. With all of your clucking...it certainly doesn't seem that way. It is still enjoyable for us. Thanks so much.

@@RLTtizME I agree with what you said. Most companies, especially Japanese ones, rely on it because it is a cost-effective, lightweight, and less complex transmission compared to DSG or DCT transmissions. As for being fuel-efficient, I don't think so. It may contribute, yes. But not always. On the contrary, there are other reasons that contribute to improving fuel consumption efficiency. However, we cannot deny that it is a dumb transmission and makes the car slower. It is more suitable for engines with smaller displacements

After all those years still it’s a mystery to me why such a capable well built cars have such a lousy engines and transmission??? Here in Europe is the major no go for this car because in this class it is the most sluggish underperforming car ever….with better powertrain it would be my ultimate choice, but still German cars rule….

0-60 in less than 6 seconds is considered sluggish? You must have a garage full of 911s and McLarens!
