Ardour is the single greatest DAW i have ever used and i have used bitwig and reaper for 6 years and ableton live for nearly 10 years. Paul is a genius and I hope this project continues long in to the future.

Been using Ardour for a year now and I can't stress how much Ardour has changed my music creation! I've been using it for MIDI composition primarily and it's been a dream!!! Even the pre 7 build were fantastic to play with, but this release is huge!!! A massive congratulations on this upgrade, can't wait to learn how to use all the new features. (I come from a background of live looping, just with instruments and pedal, so this is a great return to my roots for me!). Also, I've been starting to learn about SFZ samples and how to create my own libraries, unfortunately there isn't much info out there, and even less for Linux users, so I'm thinking of making a very basic tutorial about the process. Ardour is perfect for that! And with Sfizz (Unfa made a great video with) it's all open source and available for free!!

Finally a company who is honest and admits that their software bugs or design drove people nuts, corrects it and owns up to it, listens to customer feedback. NI and Ableton has a thing or two to learn.

I love how this presentation goes against a trend in some other FOSS projects that put out ad-like musical demos, presenting only the shiny features so as to look cool like their commercial counterpart. Instead you went the opposite direction and were just honest. Discarding bugfixes in release demos just to be more appealing isn't helping much. There's no need to hide or sugarcoat your past (or present) issues.

@@ardourdaw that's really awesome, thanks. i read the manual for protools years ago, like 1999, so i've forgotten most of it. i see there's a good manual, and i'll read that and see online tutorials as well, but these softwares are still overwhelming for dopes like me. it seems you guys have done a great job on this software, it looks very nice. kudos to you all.

How is parameter automation control vs Ableton? Live's ability to automate just about any single parameter & tweak it on a linear graph with infinite possible points is the one thing that has kept me using Live for years.
@ardourdaw
Жыл бұрын
You can automate fader/pan/trim/mute, as well as MIDI CC, bender, pressure, polyphonic pressure, and plugins parameters.
@antonblam2

Of course but he was talking about modulation, if I'm right. The ability to attach an lfo of some kind, or any modulation to any parameter, instead of drawing an automation lane @@ardourdaw

How much cpu and ram is recommended to use all of this goodness?
@ardourdaw
Жыл бұрын
Ardour is very usable on a 5 years old laptop with i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz and 8GB RAM here. But Ardour has very little DSP code, so a lot depends on the plugins you are going to use.

Hi ardour does the ardour is free for debian 11 ?

Hello, Ardour is GPL software, it should be available freely from Debian's own repository. If you take the official build from ardour.org instead, there is a small fee for the build service.

@@ardourdaw I love this FOSS business model btw, and am a happy monthly subscriber. Too many open core projects out there, and donations sadly get neglected. Pay for builds is a great way to earn some well deserved revenue without compromising on freedom ❤.

Why does Ardour compulsory cost money in Windows version??? Maybe I don’t like it after trying it!…….I’m just saying it. I have never opened Ardour in my life, I have 0 ideas how it works and if I like it. And it’s not about the money, but it’s not fair I think……..

The problem with Ardour is that it doesn't have any feature that would make me use it instead of another software. It's a "100% generic" DAW. I'm using Bitwig which is really unique. Ardour is too average for me. Maybe some day Ardour will add something to set it apart from an 100% generic DAW. That's important.
@ardourdaw

Well, you found a tool that works for you, isn't that wonderful? :) That said, what would you say are the unique things about Bitwig that affected your decision the most?

Better not to comment, but that's it Great app Ardour! It has a completely different logic than bitwig, so there is no need to compare I have bitwig, but I work with music in Ardoure and I'm experimenting with Bitwige
