I fell in love with Woodford double Oaked at what is now $65 in my area. Jim Beam Double Oaked is $28……. Umm JBDB every day.

Just tried this tonight and it was pretty good. Young and a bit of spice to it. Love Booker’s, Baker and KC and finally like a basic Jim Beam. Will not replace Woodford DO as not even in same league but will be a nice fire pit pour or reading a book sipper

I recently bought a bottle of OGD 114. I tried it a few years ago, and it was a lot to take in. Now, my palate has really evolved to like bourbons 100+ proof, and I’m glad I gave it another chance. For the price, it’s hard to beat. It’s so sweet, but spicy at the same time. But, I personally enjoy the Wild Turkey and Jim Beam flavor profile. OGD 114 and Knob Creek for the price, are absolute steals. And, you find them any old day of the week. Keep up the good work Jason. I have learned a lot about palate and nosing from watching your videos.

Being someone who does not like JB white label the double oak is actually really good. I will at some point try the WR double oak as well. I am a little new to the bourbon game because I thought they would all taste like JB so I stayed away from them. Over the last few years I have tried more of them and have found quite a few of them that I like.

I can't find Woodford Reserve Double Oaked in the 614 and a guy stocking the shelves at Giant Eagle said there's none coming until WR catches up with the demand, so I might have to go back to the Jim Beam one if I'm really desperate for a double oaked. I've kind of graduated beyond Beam at this point.

Friend of mine got a bottle of that, didn't like it, and gave it to me. I tried it a couple of times, got a headache from a short pour each time. For my money the best double oaker is Maker's 46. (Well, or Woodford "double double")

The Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is one of my faves and a recommendation from you. I wasn't aware of this Jim Beam offering although I think I have passed by it in the store as I know I've seen a blue label like that among the other Beam offerings. Sounds like I'll stick to keep on walking past. Oh and follow up on my Remus Repeal hunt. My local store's current stock was a batch four and it was $80 not $90 like I thought. So I picked that one up and I'll just keep an eye out with them for a five.

I was able to snag a bottle of Beam double aged when the age statement was still on it at 8 years. Wow! Pure yellow cellophane wrapped butterscotch candy like the ones your sweet Aunt Agnes carried in her pockets but didn't taste like the mothballs that sat in the closet with it.

Never found anything with Jim Beam prominently displayed on the front label that tickled my fancy. Also a bit of a proof hound so rarely pick up anything below 90 and prefer 100 as a minimum. So I'll probably pass on this one but do have to give them props for having a double oaked product under $25. With all the over priced, over hyped releases it's good to see stuff that's available and affordable. Speaking of affordable, have you done Early Times BiB? 100 proof (naturally, it's BiB) and $25 for a liter. Very tasty and at that price a great mixer too. Yes, they got bought out but it's still on the shelves around me. Another good BiB is the new non-chill filtered Old Overholt rye.

So I had Jim Beam white 10+ yrs ago, when it was aged 3yrs & it was horrific. The only straight bourbon I thought was bad. Gave the bottle away, would never dump it, that's just stupid. Anyway, given that, is there any chance I should even try this double oak or even the 7yr? Do love other Beam products, like the Knob Creek line & OGD bonded & 114.. The JB double oak here is $16 (w $3 off coupon) & OF 1910 is $41.

Last time I had Beam DO it consistently came across as off-putting, especially as I got closer to killing the bottle. Same goes for the current Black label. I feel like if I'm going to spend $20-$30 on a Beam product, then I'm gonna reach for Old Tub or Knob Creek. Haven't had the OGD Bonded yet, however.

Great video - random thought, would you think the double oak would work in an cocktail? I prefer higher proof and rye in my old fashioneds but I have plenty of friends who prefer a 90 proofer in the old fashioneds I make. Wonder if the JBDO would add a little something with the hints of smoke and marshmallow.

Good vid. "Better stuff out there" for double the price. I wouldn't be surprised that if tasted blindly, most bourbon-folk would prefer, or be able to pick out, the more expensive bourbon; that's how close bourbons, apples to apples, tend to be IMHO ✌️
@TheMashandDrum

theres a definite youth characteristic in the Beam. But hey...some folks don't mind it. There certainly wasn't anything off putting about it so its enjoyable.
@MrChristopherMolloy

@@TheMashandDrum I don't mind youth, so long as acetone isn't in the nose. I love bourbon, but I honestly don't get many of the nuances some strictly-bourbon reviewers claim to pick up. To me, again apples to apples (proof/age), there are at best, slight differences around the edges with bourbon, and those differences almost never justify a doubling or tripling of price blindly in the glass. I'm most comfortable in the sub-$30 range with bourbon (and rye) ✌️

@@MrChristopherMolloy im somewhere in between. There arent many whiskeys ill spend over 100 on, but i do know what i like and dont, and spend money accordingly. And i know i dont like young low proof beam. To me the sweet spot for whiskey is 60-80. Thats where you get best bang for buck to me.

@@LeatherDaddy97 I'll agree that there are a few barrel proof/cask strength bourbons & ryes worth paying up for for special occasions. I think Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for about $70 is the most I've ever spent on a bourbon. Scotch is a different story.

When I did a tour of the JB distillery years ago prior to release of Devils Cut, the tour guide pointed out that the bourbon stuck in the barrel wood could be extracted but it wasn't good quality... I can't remember why. I few years later they started marketing Devil's Cut as a premium product... it's amazing how marketing, and not necessarily quality, can change people's opinions. Devil Cut is not my favorite Beam, but I do like the JB double.
