I'd love to live in Montana but, in a remote area because, I love to receive letters from my relatives (That means they are far away).

66 thousand acres is still a lot of land to me. My (late) mother's cousin has 5000 acres of farmland in Alberta, and he rents out part of his farm. The farm that I'm originally from in Alberta had 780 acres. That seemed large to me, but these ranches you showed are way larger. If someone won the lottery, these ranches would be nice to acquire. They do look nice. Cheers!

Thanks this should be helpful, I just finally this last week convinced the family we need to get out of the Northwest since Portland and Seattle politically have taken over and are crushing the rural NW economically with their regulations and "punishment" taxes on diesel etc, my family started ranching and logging in rural Oregon in the late 1800's and now we have to leave that. Looking at Montana, Idaho and Wyoming all but family loves Montana most.

Very cool website. I'll have to check that out. Also, it's nice to see some snow flying out there! A little trivia - famous person from Big Sandy MT? Jeff Ament Pearl Jam bassist.

Took my Son (age5) to Pearl Jam in our home town of Dana point. Side note: “Google hasn’t driven cars on some of these roads” Sounds good to me.

Do you have any advice on how to start the process of buying a ranch that you've picked? How do you approach banks? Especially if you don't come from a wealthy background?

You just need to go in and talk to a banker or lender of some sort and figure out where you are financially. They will look at your income, expenses, savings, credit score, etc. and then tell you how much you qualify for.

What about smaller plots of land? Like 5-50 acres?

Would love to move to Montana but the property up there is so expensive. The ones I’ve seen for really cheap are either inaccessible in winter or timber land. Unless I’m just not looking in the right spots.

Land prices vary tremendously, if price is an issue like most everyone then stay far away from the two college towns Bozeman and Missoula, lots of rich California transplants have driven prices through the roof, couple other resort hot spots as well to avoid. Eastern half of the state is cheaper as is far NW corner.

Montana is badically a desert. Better fiind a creek that runs through the property. Also oil wells are big money.
