I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes a map as well as sat nav. Can I ask which map you use please.
@CampervanJourney

Nope, you are not alone ! Claire likes to keep a track of where we are on a larger scale map and where we are near to. This book is a large scale map by Philips @ 1:750000, scale so the smaller detail is not great, but when you are doing 300 miles a day it keeps your trip on one or two pages. Its got to be spiral bound as well ! We do have some more detailed traditional maps that we'll take as well, but they are a bit unwieldy to unfold and use whilst driving. We tend to navigate using google maps via Apple car play. You can set options to avoid toll roads or motorways if preferred. Hope you enjoyed this video.

Like you we found northern France very wet. Decided to head south to mount Ventoux, brilliant weather and area.

Great channel. Any tips on the Champagne region if you have visited. We are planning our trip to work our way through that area as far down as Troyes and loop back with a visit to Disney on the way back.

Thank you ! We have only camped in the Champagne region once, and that was right at the very beginning of our Campervan Adventures so around 9 years ago. We stayed at a lovely campsite near a village called Noncourt-sur-le-Rongeant, it used to be part of the Castells group. It was quite a rural location but a very nice place to stop off on the way down through France. We have also visited the old motor racing track on the outskirts of Reims. Well worth seeing if thats your thing. The area definitely warrants a longer visit from us, we are often are passing through on the way down to the Alps. Hope you have a great trip, thanks for watching and getting in touch ! Cheers JT

Thanks for that. I'm thinking of getting a VW camper next year when my lottery win comes through and France is definitely on my mind as a destination. I lived and worked in Germany and Hungary for many years and had great fun there but I feel that I have barely scraped the surface of possibilities in France. Nice to get a feel for the experience of getting across there. How do you get internet in your van or do you live without it?

Go for it! Best thing we ever did ! We hope to make it to Germany for a more in depth visit next year, we have nipped across the border a couple of times when we have been exploring Alsace. We just use our phone data for internet. Since Brexit it can get a bit expensive, but for a short trip it is bearable. If we were away for 2-3 months, we'd look at an alternative solution. Hope you enjoyed the video, thanks for getting in touch. Cheers JT

Hi JT I noticed when you were packing up the van the Spacemate wasn’t in - do you find you have more packing room without it or find you use it for specific reasons ?

Hi ! Yes, the spacemate was in there, just positioned further back.We have a new one on trial from Spacemate with a video coming very soon, it has a clever extra feature...

…so why didn’t you travel to Cherbourg?

Good question! Some of our party prefer the ‘comfort’ of travelling under rather than on the channel. LeShuttle was also significantly cheaper than all ferry options that worked for us. Thanks for watching and getting in touch, cheers JT

Crossing on the Ferry can be more civilised and more relaxed. We did plan to travel by ferry this year, but when we wnet to book, the prices had leapt up. Depending on where we aim to end up, we have travelled overnight from Newhaven to Dieppe on a number of occasions. Its a relatively short crossing at 4 hrs, so not too long for those that don't travel well on a ferry but long enough to get some rest to break up a long journey. Thanks for watching the channel, cheers JT - Campervan Journey
